300: King Leonidas of Sparta and a force of 300 men fight the Persians at Thermopylae in 480 B.C.

The fact Lena Headey can play one of the most hated, and most beloved figures just goes to show the range this queen has.
She also makes a great Sarah Connor
Fuck yeah she does. Much better than Daenerys did.
@@bradcarver8127 I blame the writing.
Leonidas saying "May you live forever" to the traitor is not at all the good wish the way we use it today, but a cold insult. All Spartans sought a glorious death in battle, so this line is basically saying he's a disgrace to his country, may he never find peace or honour in life or death. Fckn awesome movie, killer reaction as always Major!
Leonidas was also supposedly giving the traitor something called "the evil eye" which people in the Ancient World believed was a curse.
they say that a coward lives longer but a dishonorabe one. something they have to live for the rest of their lives.
Fun fact: a King once sent a message to a Spartan that said “if I conquer Sparta, we will kill all your men, and you women and children will be slaves, we will burn your land to ashes!” And the Spartan King sent back one word “If.” 🔥
This dude was wearing diapers in the snow. You can't be harder than this.... A-WOOOO.... A-WOOOO..... A-WOOOO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I died when he said many things in this reaction that part was one of them lmfao dudes out here in a diaper he gotta be cold as hell 😂
This film at release remains the best movie theater experience I've ever had, the crowd was hyped, there was cheers, tears, and electricity in the air.
Agreed, me and my buddy smoked a huge blunt and watched completely stoned. It made the movie feel so intense. It was great
the flinch when Major saw Cersei lololol he literally jumped back 🤣
Had me shook lol
@REPLAY CREW Thank you
I laughed my ass off at that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Xerxes
@@MrToxic200 hilarious 😂
20:15, the sad part is the role Leonidas offered the hunchback is considered an honorable role in today's military. You will always need someone to storm the hills and fight in the trenches.
But when those soldiers are wounded or perish, they need someone to care for them. Combat medics and mortuary affairs are respected service fields now. The offer just came 2000 years to early.
Leonidas could have literally just let this poor fellow fight with the Athenians instead of basically telling him he is worthless as a combatant. He basically invited the betrayal.
@@silverblade357 Which would have put his other men in danger out of pity for the mans inability to fight and a misplaced desire to help by placating him. To fake his worth to make him feel better, risking his true brothers and soldiers in a fight that is for the 'fate' of his home, all for a betrayal over something he had no real control over.
@@DogmaticNonsense Dude, I'm not talking about putting him in the phalanx. I'm saying he can join the non-Spartans when they do their little flanking maneuvers. The poor bastard wants to fight and die with some dignity. Hearing his life story and then telling him to haul corpses was about the gravest insult this idiot king could have paid him. FFS, is he really any worse than the potters and carpenters that came out to fight?
EDIT: Granted, I'm only on about the movie, where they break up their impenetrable shield every other minute to get slow motion trailer porn.
It takes a hero's mindset to do it
"This is Sparta" never gets old!!!
Congrats on hitting 25k Chief
Thank you Simon appreciate you
You know nuffin Simon
40:45 The point was not to kill Xerxes, but to show him that he is mortal and he can be killed. Leonidas wanted to instill the fear of death in him, not kill him outright. Its a great psychological warfare tactic.
Another important detail is that Leonidis knew if he kills Xerxes the Persians would be looked at as victims of King Leonidis and Greece would not unite leaving Greece fragmented and vulnerable for a Persian attack. He also knew if he was to die battling the Persian Army that Greece would unite and defend Greece together.
Though fantastical this is based upon a true story. There really was a King Leonidas and he fought a battle against Persians with 300 Spartan warriors at his side for three days. The Battle of Thermopylae (aka the hot gates) is legendary and considered a classic example of how a small military unit can utilize geography to its advantage against a larger force.
Over two thousand years later, this battle was still well known before the graphic novel or this film were produced.
Spartan’s are my ancestors. I’ve heard the story of King Leonidas and the 300 since I was a baby. My uncle is named after King Leonidas… We call him Tommy🤣🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I love hoiw they Portray Leonidas here not only a total bad ass but also a father and husband. Especially those scenes with his wife, looking approval before kicking Persian messenger into well and their last moment together... He is strong man, trusting completely his wife and relying on this, making him even more stronger. The last words: "My queen, my wife, my love..."
The Spartacus you're thinking of was a gladiator from Thrace. The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 480 BC, and Spartacus is believed to have been born around 103 BC.
This movie was awe inspiring in theatres. I couldn’t stop my jaw from dropping at the beauty of it. 🤩
IMAX... my pants were crusty lmao
This movie has it all
Spartacus was from Thrace, a different region from the city state of Sparta. And yes, if you want 300-style of cinematics as a series, Spartacus is definitely the series for you!
I remember when this movie came out and everyone loved it the following Halloween my friends and I were at a gas station and these guys showed up dressed as Spartan soldiers and one of my friends yelled this is Sparta! All of the dudes yelled Awoooo Awoooo.
Spartacus is one of the best shows I ever watched! If you love 300 then you'll love that show! 💯
I watched this opening night at an independent theatre (curtians pulled and a wine/beer intermission) in Seattle, WA. There were discussions on the side i wish i could talk but it was history prof, academics and film critics. This movie is one of a kind a movie that deserves to be seen only in theatres. I used to play Age of Empires on PC a lot, so i knew this story as there is a scenario where you defend the hot gates.
*Spartacus Blood and Sand is an epic show! definitely worth exploring!*
This movie is the pinnacle of "LET'S F-ing GO!"
The neighbors: "Damn this is Spartaaa!!!"
Sparta was a unique society-it had two kings and a council of elders called the ephors. Leonidas came from one of the royal lines- the Agiad dynasty. Also most of these one liners, such as 'We will fight in the shade' were reported to have actually been said by Spartans. they were known for their one liners, its called a laconic phrase (Laconia being the region of Greece the Spartans live in)
Dude, I'm writing this before even starting the video. When I saw this pop up on your channel my first thought was that there might not be a better movie to keep Major jumping out of his chair than this one! Can't wait! (I'm turning the volume down on my headphones just in case!!!)
I believe this is definitely in my top 5 fav action movies. Man this is fire and I love how hyped you got watching it! Love to see it!!!!
The 300 warriors had been on NNN since January 💯🔥🔥🔥
This is one of the most animated, funny, real reaction channels I've ever seen 😂 Subbed and joined patreon!! Keep them coming!
At the end when he told the deformed creature “I hope you live forever” is because being a spartan man dying in battle is the highest honor they can have. He said live forever saying hope you never have the honor of dying in battle! That shit is crazy!
"GIVE THANKS MEN! TO LEONIDAS AND THE BRAVE 300 TO *VICTORY!* "
I can't stop watching your reaction you felt it more than I as a Greek. Leonidas was at his 60s then.. We use the word "Efialtis" in Greece as nightmare.. And "May you live forever" was the biggest insult for a Spartan.. If you ever come to Greece you can visit his magnificent statue in Hotgates.. Greeks we go often to honor King Leonidas. For many it's just a movie but for us Greeks it's our history. Thank you for your reaction😊
This story was told on film in the 1960s title "The 300 Spartans" actually filmed on location where Leonidas & the 300 died.
And the quote "parser by tell them by Spartan law here we liye" is engraved in stone at the location
According to what I have read the 300 Spartans killed around 20,000 Persians. And the guy who spoke the king as he died went on to play Magneto in the X-Men
THIS IS SPARTA was actually improvised by the actor and has become one of the most iconic moments of the movie. The remix was one of the earliest memes out there on the internet back in the day
Nice. This dude knows how to enjoy a movie and how to react. Subscribed :)
I still prefer this one than the sequel. The sequel is good but yeah I still think this one hits harder 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love both of them. Plus the sequel has Eva Green playing the bad guy.
Same

Fun-Fact: Messengers do not have immunity once they start talking trash of their own accord!
All time favorite!!! Im obsessed with Greek Mythology!!!
The military and soldiers get inspiration and tactics from the Spartans and Romans.
The only glorious death for a man of Sparta is on the battlefield. When he said I hope you live forever he gave that man the worst insult a spartan can give to another.
BC you asked: Sparticus was a Thracian (blue-eyed and red-haired nomad of the balkans) who fought as a soldier for Rome, was imprisoned, made to be a gladiator because he was huge, then led an enourmous slave revolt, and BEAT ROME a whole bunch of times, begining by leading his men down the side of a volcano on rope vines. His army numbered 70,000 at it's max but he was eventually defeated. 6,000 of his men were crucified on the roads outside Rome afterwards because this was the third slave revolt, and the oligarchs wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. The movie shows him as one of them.
It's unlikely he was from Sparta, but the city is thousands of years old and numerous people in history have been named Sparticus, he was just the most badass one.
39:45, I have heard it said that Leonidas telling the hunchback "May you live forever" is a two fold curse.
One that he will never die a beautiful death in battle like a good and honorable Spartan would.
Two that he will have to live forever knowing he betrayed his country which is what no good and honorable Spartan would ever do.
300 never fails to get the old blood pumping -- Awooooo !
I have been loving watching your reactions to movies, keep it up buddy we are all grateful
The symbol of Herakles was a Lion too 🦁 Glad you enjoyed the movie brother.
The only Spartan who return from the battle,he can t even walk at Sparta because of the shame, all Spartan people blame on him ,thus at the next battle he fought like a lion at the frontline and dies first of all.True story.Nice video man.Greetings from a Macedonian,Greek Macedonian, not fake Macedonian
The Spartan culture was a Utopian culture like Egypt, Atlantis and Camelot.
"The Last Mimzy..."
"You have selected 300!!"
I wish I could watch this for the first time again cuz this Sh*t is fire af!
The Spartan that talked about a beautiful death, went on to play Magneto in the X-Men
“This is Sparta!”
Ughhh this movie goes so damn hard! Gets me hyped every time I watch it. 💜
Loved your reaction! I love watching men react to this movie, seeing them get hyped up and that fighting spirit in their viens. It's a beautiful thing!! I'm glad you enjoyed this movie. It even makes me feel hyped up as a woman watching it and i start chanting "owww owww oww!!" 😅
I haven’t watched yet but - Prediction: Major will be out of his seat at “THIS IS SPARTA!!”
If you want there's a comedy parody version of this movie called "Meet the Spartans" I highly suggest you check it out some time, it's great!
The ending is like the best part
These are REACTIONS!!! Love it!!! Definitely subscribed!!!
Appreciate you The truth
He made love to her and held her the night before heading out,he's on battle mode in the morning..to be stoic and put feelings aside to get the job done is a must for men..that was a deep little moment there when he walked of without showing affection knowing most likely not coming back
Yes watch Spartacus it so good too 3 shows all time for me🔥
Spartacus was a Thracian, sentenced to slavery as a gladiator, who then went on to lead the largest slave revolt against the Roman Empire 🤙🏽 the show is lit
10/10 reaction on a 10/10 movie
Spartacus is like 500 years later.
Great Reaction Major!!
First time I seen this was also a bootleg. It was during my first deployment. It was in Kuwait before we went into Iraq. Dope ass movie. Trust me, the 300 workout was real!!
After Leonidas hit Xerxes in the face with his spear, he probably spent the next year telling the story: “You wanna know how I got these scars….?” 😂
"We'll put their name to the test" 🥶
After the second which is also good,I have to recommend now Troy with actor brat pitt and immortals with actor Henry cavill (superman)
Hey Major, I just subscribed because I like your reaction to this movie. It is one of my all time favorites not just for the action but also how close it is to the real history of Sparta. A lot of the one liners you hear in the movie, like "We will Fight in the Shade then" is an actual quote from back in that time era. Also, the place that the battle takes place is real. The Greek City/States is what it was known as back in that era, there was no Countries as we know it today, kingdoms yes but not Countries. Sparta was the first City/States to have "professional soldiers" and one of the first places to take "pride" in their city/states (Country Pride). Finally, the "upside" down V on the shields is actually where the US Military and other Countries, get their military ranks from. I was in the Marine Corps and the E1 (Private) is the "upside" down V and that is where it comes from. One more thing, the battle that took place where the 300 died is also studied in Military tactics to this day.
Hey Major
I absolutely loved your reaction to all the scenes of interest in the movie.
My name is Gus and I'm from Toronto Canada. I was born here but I do have a house in Greece about a half an hour drive from Sparta.
If you're interested in seeing what Sparta looks like, I was there last summer and have pictures of where babies were discarded and also where the hot gates are.
All the relicks around the city of Sparta and statues I think you would enjoy seeing.
There's a full size statue of Leanidis and the iron fences are made with the symbol on the shields.
Cheers
Gus
The Narrator was Faramir in Lord of the Rings.
Wow yes it is thank you for letting me know Baskerville Bee
@@MajorReacts
You can compare the 300 to our Alamo. A few brave men gave their lives to give the larger army time to assemble and win.
Love the energy bro had me hyped
Spartacus is Italian (Roman History). Even though I believe Spartacus was from east of the Rhine which modern day is Germany I believe. Spartans from Sparta are Greek. I only watched the last season of Spartacus and it was awesome.
The tv show/history Spartacus has nothing to do with Spartans...... He was named after the warriors and became a gladiator. It is a great show worth checking out.
Spartacus was from Thrace (Greece)
@@romanbruneel4560 but not a Spartan was my point.
Spartacus was greek too from Thrace!!
SPARTAAAAAHH !!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I just got here but am soooo excited for Major to watch this one!! I just KNOW he's gonna love it ❤️🔥🤘
I love this movie. I get hyped up in the battle scenes
It feels like this was made so long ago. Back when masculinity was valued, not demonized. I saw this 3x in the theater. Nothing will make you more proud to be a man than this movie. Stay strong fellas, Godspeed
Tonight... We dine in HELL!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome 👏
@17:23,
No, Spartacus was from Thrace in Northern Greece.
Spartacus wasnt round since Rome wasnt yet in power, i dont even think they existed at this point and if they did they were unrecognizable
Today on the Major theater we are watching 300
Otherwise known as HYPE the movie.
This movie is based off a comic book that's based off the historical event of the Battle of Thermopylae.
The wolf he fought in the wild is the now extinct Dire Wolf
I like that you look up who the people were and their stories. You should watch the rest of The Vikings. I stopped too, then later watched the rest. Really good.
Love your reaction man, very entertaining and happy to see next generation appreciate the movie. It's sad Hollywood is now more focused on politics than doing actual good stuff.
You should react to Spartacus series, its one of the best TV series ever made in my opinion.
Really enjoyed your reaction I love this movie is one of my all-time favorite I feel the same way about it
This guys noises are the best
Fact: King Leonidas was around 60 years old when he fought this battle..!! 🔥⚔
Can u imagine if the did this as a series
Yeah man... The ephors were the ones in the Greek mythology to grant the warriors to battle but yeah these creatures were corrupted by Xerxes. 😮
My man was hype AF ... Fantastic reaction. Awesome 💪🏼☯️
Thanks fam what a great movie this was we gotta check out the 2nd one
You should go to a Spartan re-enactment or sports event.
8:45 LMFAO KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY

This movie is timeless, released 2006 but looks like something from today
Just found your channel. Love your reactions. Subscribed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Always wanted to visit the site where this battle took place but due to the land breaking its now underwater ,there is a small site near it you can visit though
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
You should check out the "Spartacus" series, I'm sure you'd love it. (at least season 1) It's one of the best shows i have ever watched.
He did mention he'll give it a watch, if i'm not mistaken, but i'm here to agree with you. Definitely an amazing fucking show
He even mentions at 17:26
@@fived9424 oh that's great! it's worth it for season 1 alone. (+ gods of the arena)
Cercei was also my childhood crush in the Disney movie the jungle book with her and Jason Scott Lee the actor who played Bruce lee in that other film think it was called dragon but maan I had a crush on her she was so young and beautiful in jungle book and had a British accent ❤
Spartacus is an older movie starring Kirk Douglas.
