I agree, understanding as an adult that this is sort of a fictionalized account of his early 90s retirement adds a different perspective to it than just viewing it as a completely goofy (or I suppose looney) basketball movie like I did when I was a kid.
Even though I was born in 1995 and was at the right time to watch Space Jam as a kid, I never watched Space Jam until about 4 or 5 years ago as an adult. The film definitely has its 90s filled cheese and I'm not too crazy on the blend between the Looney Tunes and the NBA, but it's still a bizarrely fun experience that has its moments. I'm more of a Looney Tunes: Back in Action guy, which as a hardcore Looney Tunes fan, felt more like an actual Looney Tunes movie to me.
Interesting with the delay! Yeah, I don't think this movie would work very well for someone who didn't see it as a kid/when it first came out. It probably doesn't work for plenty who did 😆
I love this terribly good movie, and I 100% agree that had I not been a teenager when it came out and lived through all that, it probably wouldn't have such a place in my heart😂 Diggin' that jersey btw... I wonder if I could find a MonStars one🤔
This is why I am worried about Space Jam 2. THIS film is a product of its time. I must play that playstation game one day! Great review, Alyssa! I love the Tune Squad jersey. lol
Thanks, Chris! I agree, that's definitely my concern with it too. This was sort of a lightning in a bottle scenario and I'm not sure how things could align like that a second time 25 years later. Haha the game really wasn't all that much but man I played it a lot. Basically just a basketball game with a couple mini games between quarters. And super uneven, the Tune Squad was wicked overpowered compared to the Monstars 😆
@@MainelyMovies I had just gotten back from a trip to Kentucky to see a friend of mine who was moving to Ohio for a couple of years. It was sort of the end of an era or at least a hiatus of those times so I really enjoyed having a feel good movie like Uncle Drew to watch afterwards.
I watched it a few years ago and still enjoyed it. Watching it as an adult Jordan’s bad acting is more obvious and the film just feels like it moves so fast and then it’s over. Again though my nostalgia is the reason I hold it in high regards.
Live action actors looked uncomfortable and probably made the movie worse. Considering this had only been done in one other movie before, though, I'm not too surprised about that.
@@MainelyMovies I like him. Pretty much anybody from my area appreciates their Jordan. Also, he was acting as himself so that couldn't be too complicated.
Awesome review Alyssa and your basket ball outfit is so cool🤩🏀. Space Jam is never been a movie I cared for, the voice acting is excellent and the soundtrack rocks but the animation is far too fast paced, Michael Jordan can't act he's a expert basket ball player but no actor and the aliens are lacklustre villains and a movie based around basket ball dosen't interest me. Looney Tunes Back in Action is the better film for me.I'd give Space Jam 2 stars out of 5!

i feel if you understand all the meta humor and references to mj's life in the film its a lot better...

Definitely one of those "you had to be there" movies 😆 Thanks! Ooh, I bet they're out there somewhere haha.
Oh yeah in middle school someone brought the soundtrack to school and played it on the boom box and It blew me away
Oh man, I wish we were allowed to have our boomboxes or walkmans at school when I was a kid 😆

Awesome review! I used to watch this movie all the time when I was little and I still enjoy watching it to this very day!
Thanks, Ronyell! It's such a nice throwback to childhood!
@@MainelyMovies Agree!
You're actually pretty coordinated. I don't know if I could have spun that basketball. o_0
Haha, I've been doing it since I was a kid so I've had a bit of practice 😁
@@MainelyMovies Nice. Good for you.
Uncle Drew was a very strange movie. I remember enjoying it when I first saw it, but it has not held up well over the years.
It's definitely odd, but I still have a great time rewatching it.

Yeah, I was surprised by how empty it felt plotwise on this rewatch. Still enjoyable, but there really isn't all that much to it.
This review was... Lemony fresh...

Well the main actor wasn't even an actor, so I'm sure that contributed too.

You need a pair of bunny ears and a carrot to complete the look.
I guess if I had been going for Bugs 😆

Thanks, Harry! It definitely has its flaws, but this was such a fun theater experience as a kid and it's still enjoyable to me even now. 😆
