  • Michigan's spring game ended with a physical defensive stop by Team Maize, who beat Team Blue by a score of 17-7. Analyzing any spring game is tough without context, and even with context, data, and film study a spring game is simply a public practice. However, there were a few things that stuck out to me. Michigan Football is still a physical team that will be led by its ground attack and defense. This is despite eight out of eleven defensive starters and every starting offensive lineman leaving for the NFL. The quarterback battle between Alex Orji and surprisingly Davis Warren will be tight, but Donovan Edwards and Michigan's offensive line look ready to feast and the defense should remain an elite unit. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

    We absolutely need a new kicker; that's a huge weak spot. Heard we are trying to get one from the portal, but Michigan isn't saying who they are targeting...hope it comes through.

    hot take but i think Warren should start at QB due to him fitting the pro-style game manager-type QB system at michigan, but Alex Orji should be used as a all-athlete type of player on offense, lining up at wideout, TE, in the backfield and taking direct snaps both throwing the ball and running it. he’s way too talented to not be used but i don’t want to see a Joe Milton expirement 2.0, especially with all the talent michigan has

      go look at the safetys and linebackers on the field when davis led the maize team to two touchdown drives. they had 3 points before all the 1st and 2nd stringers were sat down for the day. No Paige, Barham, Zeke Berry on the field Warren looked great. Same thing happened last year Warren is a smart player he picked on Amorion Walker all day a 1st year db who wasn't cracking the top 6 at receiver

    Orji threw 72%, No picks. 1 TD running but really 2. Several right on target throws. Some nice touch passes. Yes he missed some throws. So did Davis miss throws. Both had right about the same %. I think we need to be positive and not dwell on a few things. Let's go Blue

    • @collegefootballwithsam
      @collegefootballwithsam  Месяц назад +2

      As long as he is able to become more consistent at passing he can become a good QB. I just didn't like what I saw from Orji in the spring game.

  • @gabeswitala2292
    @gabeswitala2292 Месяц назад +4

    Not sure what game you were watching. But what I saw was Orji throwing for 70% and droping balls right into his receivers bread baskets. This narrative that Orji can't throw a FB is getting old real fast.

    • @antmillner
      @antmillner Месяц назад +3

      I think the fact that UM does not air it out much, makes the margin of error very small in the passing game. Orgi is not quite ready. But with an entire summer and fall to prepare, he could get there.

    • @gabeswitala2292
      @gabeswitala2292 Месяц назад +2

      @@antmillner you do realize that a football field is 53 yards wide right? Orji was hitting stick routes to the boundary with ease.

    • @antmillner
      @antmillner Месяц назад +4

      @gabeswitala2292 yes, he was. Orgi has a powerful arm. I just think his timing and accuracy has to be a little more like McCarthy's if UM is gonna beat Texas, Oregon and or Ohio State. Right now, I'd say that those are 3 close losses but again, Orgi has time to polish up.

    • @MaizeBlueMichigan
      @MaizeBlueMichigan Месяц назад +2

      People are saying that because Orji's first two throws were complete whiffs. However, other than that he was throwing excellently. I think he just had to get warmed up.

      @collegefootballwithsam  Месяц назад +2

      I agree with you. Michigan cannot win it all if all they can do is run the football and occasionally pop a screen pass or play action bootleg to a TE. I think the offense will be better come August/September, but I want a great offense at Michigan, not an offense that is great at just one type of attack.

    • @MBlue-sk4tr
      @MBlue-sk4tr Месяц назад +4

      @@collegefootballwithsam I agree with you. I think the future of Michigans QB in Jadyn Davis and Carter Smith will be very bright, as they both have great potential. This year, I’m not so sure. Orji has great upside but he absolutely has to make strides in his passing game over the summer. We know the athleticism he brings, but he needs to work harder on his weaknesses as well.
