Still not sure what Kenny's plan was there. Were they going to try a different country? An island (because that worked out so great in Dawn of the Dead)? Stay on the boat and live there? Although, I guess nobody really realised this was going to be a decade plus long situation back then.
@@DutchRebel1942 Yeah but as you could see, they can "walk" underwater. And you know what they say about sound traveling thru water hence an island wouldn't be that safe unless the edges are sharp(sorry for shitty explanation) meaning the island is unclimbable for walkers
@@real_chichicherry123 I wrote a post on reddit about it. You can see some of the budget cuts here www.reddit.com/r/TheWalkingDeadGame/comments/ewin4r/im_gonna_cry_now/
There’s actually a book. I believe it’s called “Road to Woodberry.” Don’t quote me on this it’s been a while but I believe it’s about Lilly and her leaving the Season 1 group (which was Lee and everyone) in the RV and goes on her own bullshit story to meet Rick Grimes and she eventually gets into The Walking Dead comics. But I don’t remember if that’s the same Lilly from the games or not. Yada yada yada also Glenn from S1 goes onto meet Rick Grimes in the show so this is what HE was doing at the start of the outbreak. I love this shit. If you like the AMC show I recommend reading the comics (online bc they’re stupid expensive for a physical copy of these comics)
I'm so glad they changed AJ's role. He essentially went from The Baby/The Companion to one of the greatest and most complex characters written in the franchise. I truly loved AJ as a child born into the apocalypse with no knowledge of how the old world was supposed to work. It made him a chilling contrast to Clementine who still had those old values. Man, I would've loved to see the kids reclaim more areas of the school when Marlon was no longer there to restrict the "safe zones". That would've be so epic and probably empowering too. I'm glad they scrapped the road trip idea but I wish the flashback with McCaroll Ranch had its own episode because they built it up all this time only for it to only be about 10 minutes. What they had planned with the zombie combat made me think of some Last of Us/Breath of the Wild stuff, with the breaking weapons and stuff.
Right? Imagine if they'd had the funds to make the last season massive. You could've had this whole plotline with Clem trying to reclaim parts of the school - and depending on your choices, parts would either be successfully reclaimed, or left to rot. And then that could've affected how the game's ending played out. There's a lot of potential here.
Having Clementine return to Georgia, seeing her home and perhaps even Lee’s final resting place in the building in Savannah would have been amazing. Depending on your choice to leave Lee to turn, or put him down and seeing the consequences of it would have been heartbreaking. Having Clem see a walkerified Lee, glued in place by overgrowth genuinely would have made me cry.
The game was amazing as it was, but imagine if they had a budget of something like a rockstar game, that would be fucking INSANE. And if it had a better engine that would be great, clearly as stated multiple times by Mudle, the engine is a huge limiting factor.
@@mazolobo6907 I mean if they kept it down to 5, they would be probably pretty long and good length, and REALLY high quality. I mean 10 from rockstar would still be insane quality.
Telltale has ALWAYS cut out content in their games which was probably a big reason why they went bankrupt. Just throwing away their money, thanks for showing this, really wish they were able to do some of this stuff 😭
I don't think it's a big reason they went bankrupt but it's definitely a symptom of it. Really bad leadership/management leading to devs making things only for them to say "nah actually we don't wanna do that anymore". It really is such a waste of manpower and resources.
That's honestly pretty normal for any fictional story. If a writer ever tells you the story didn't change much from the first draft, RUN. That means they haven't done their job and the story's probably trash. It SHOULD change; that's like ninety percent of the work. With that said, preferably it changes before you put tons of work and money into assets - but that can't always be helped.
Anyone else get chills when seeing the ranch in the background? Idk why but it's just ominously standing there in the open, almost like a metaphor for always being in the back of Clementine's thoughts.
@@jaytonius560 That plus the level of trauma Clementine is suggested to have throughout the game. Honestly IMO the ranch scene in 404 didn't feel any different than anything she has already faced. So I guess it was hard for me to believe. Everyone acquires trauma differently though so I guess it could've traumatized her b/c it was her last chance to find AJ. Who knows.
Omg exactly I thought I was just a bit weird but yeah the huge opening surrounded by forestry then the ranch stood there it just does something to me that nothing else does
It's a shame this game suffered from a short budget, I would have loved to see it at its fullest potential and be a stellar way for Telltale to go out, rather than a great one
Noegg not saying it wasnt good but the cut content sounds like it could have made it alot better than what it already was more gameplay and story making the world around clem feel more bigger rather than just the kids and delta and a fraction of the school we see
I'm not sure why they cut the stuff about Aasim's backstory. There's no reason that shouldn't be in the game, it's like two lines of dialogue that explains a bit more about his character.
Noegg plus they built up delta as if we were gonna get something big about the war they were in and know more about this group but nope all we get is now they are screwed and lillys fate is just gonna go unknown like christas
The S4 Lilly really upsets me because it seems to me like they never went through with adding any depth they hinted at to to her, making her be a copy and paste villain with a fan service face. S1 Lilly wasn’t evil. She was strict and extremely tough, kinda bitchy, and eventually becoming so unhinged from her dad being killed in front of her, someone stealing medical supplies, food being short, and eventually their home being overtaken by raiders, but she never would’ve resorted to an army of child slaves. She was to one against stealing food from an abandoned seeming car when they were running out of food left to ration because she thought (correctly) that the owner might come back and they’d just be monsters in the night who destroyed their hopes of survival. S4 Lilly seemed pretty neurotic in her first few minutes of screen time. They literally went from “You should come with us. We have all this fancy stuff, and I don’t really want to hurt you for sentimental reasons” to she and Abel shooting at you no matter what you do involving Louis and Violet, even if you don’t even say anything to them. When she comes back for the end of the episode she doesn’t have the guts to shoot Clementine. Then episode 3 rolls around and Lilly will literally order people’s tongues and finger to get chopped off. She gives a little prepared speech about “obey or you die” and how Larry was an extremely strict dad, saved ep2 character says something that makes her focus in him instead and she then focuses on AJ, takes him up for a talk, gets into a fight with Clem where she seems to have gotten over her hesitation to kill her, and you get to choose whether she lives or not. End of her story, she doesn’t do anything important if you let her go. No arc, no comeuppance. She just floats away into the unrendered area behind the fog on her tiny raft. They could’ve put anyone in Lilly’s place, she didn’t act like the season 1 character and you can fight me about that. And I do mean anyone. Christa, Molly, Arvo, the Cadbury Bunny, it would’ve been the same experience. Thank you for reading my essay, any feedback is welcomed.
You forget that at this point it's been almost ten years since you last saw Lily, everyone has had hundreds of people they loved die, and human beings CHANGE based on their experiences. Obviously, the Lily we saw in season four was never going to be the same Lily who was in season one. It's been ten long, hard years of trying to scratch a living out of the ground, and people are not static. The natural arc for Lily's character, after the point we see her reach in season one, was to become an irredeemable villain. There's no coming back once you murder an innocent in cold blood and try to convince everyone else it was the right thing to do. She was too far gone. I'm not sure what you expected from her character but honestly, if she had to come back (I didn't want her back at all), I'm glad they didn't try to force me to like her. I would've thrown the game out.
having Clem return to her own home would be freaking cool and very symbolic... but concidering the scenario it would make more sense to stay at the school with people she cares about since it safer and better for AJ
I lowkey wish they opened a go fund me or something. I would honestly help fund this. This game could’ve been so much better and I’m so glad now I truly know my disappointment isn’t unjustified.
Twd season 4 was already phenomenal in my opinion, but I'm upset to hear about the cut locations from the school, the open world aspects and the more developed combat we could have got. Especially getting to explore the school
Ever since Telltale starting getting those death signs with the money issues and leadership mishandling, The final season would’ve been a budget title regardless. This is partly thanks to the awful crunch development cycle and overuse of the Telltale engine for all their games. Not to mention A new frontier was a big mediocre flop as it had zero direction and had little impact as such on Clem’s journey. Does this mean the Final season is bad? It’s honestly the best conclusion I could’ve ever hoped for. While their big ideas would’ve been cool on paper, having that tight focus on what could be possible made for a way better story than A new frontier could ever hope to achieve.
Yall attacking tnf when telltale has made way worse shit. Minecraft story mode season 2 was definitely not a great sequel. One of the batman ones was terrible and let's not get into gotg. Idk how that borderlands game did but I doubt it was good. I liked the new frontier. It didn't give us much of clem but it was good
Telltale should've just focused solely on TWD after S1 and not make a million mediocre/crappy games like Minecraft story mode, Batman, Game of Thrones etc. That was their downfall. They got cocky after TWD S1 and thought they are suddenly EA or Ubisoft or other giants. They f*cked up and paid the price.
Season 1 has a few things I would've liked but it was good nonetheless Season 2 had A LOT of stuff cut that I'd of much rather had than the final product Season 3 just needed changing honestly And I don't know what to say about this season honestly a lot of the stuff that was cut was because of budget but I just felt like this season needed more
Yeah, IMO “Done Running” was the best episode in the entirety of TWD games, but then the quality started to taper off and for me it started to get not-so-good halfway through episode 3. This season itself just seems too small for an ending to such a lengthy set of games that’s been going on for 7 years. I think most people have already stated what I think should have been changed about this season, but one large thing I think they should have done was make more episodes. At least 6 or more so that the story can be sufficient for a complete and satisfying ending and for good in-depth exploration to the game and it’s outcomes.
The concept art of ten looks a few years younger than his final version. I think this is huge evidence that the original version of the game was set less than a year after ANF
I just realized that season 3 was literally a waste of time. It was just telltale being mediocre and greedy. I don't blame the developers at all or the writers. I blame management. I guess I'm ranting but I'm upset at the poor management and the burn out of developers.
Pretty much. The developers were under tough conditions and tried to make the best of it. But I can't ignore the writers because they're the ones responsible for trying to tell a good story (which is such an important part of this series) so they're just as culpable as far as I'm concerned, but fuck Telltale's management especially.
Yeah it felt from the beginning that Aasim will be a bigger character than the one we got in episodes 2,3 and 4...kind of shame since I would have liked to see him play a bigger role. I think that your theory was right since the beginning and the footage proved it. Anyway thanks for another great video!
@Kang era Daryl Me too! Aasim was a cool character who was really underused! I wish he had more screentime and was important rather than just a plot device.
Its a such a damn shame, that they cleaned up the files so well... your previous cut content videos are some of my most favorite videos. Especially because of all the files left behind, you could show us.
I know. I guess I'm (as well as others) are partly to blame for datamining the demo so hard that they made really sure not to let another slip up happen again.
Some of the cut content and character background - and characters, as there were very few in the school really - could have added more depth to the story, but I'm glad they moved away from the road trip story. I think the scrapped DLC for ANF would have been interesting though. I'd rather have had that than the Michonne game we got before ANF, though I get why Telltale made that game too. The AJ haircut would have been a great final touch too.
They never show what happens if you leave Kenny at Wellington, Molly, the boring ass 400 days characters, the piece of shit Bonnie and Arvo, as well as finally Mike.
I don’t know if it was due to money problems or something like that, but I never understood why the last season would only have four episodes. The final season should have covered a lot more than it did in my opinion. I’m glad Skybound finished it of course , but personally I can’t shake off the feeling of dissatisfaction. The first episode was extremely great and ended on a very strong note. But after that it felt like more of a letdown. Lilly was barely there, she was basically just a side character. The whole reason as to why Clem didn’t return to Javi in Richmond was cleared up incidentally in a flashback which simultaneously cleared up another great question that was ignored until the very end. (What happened on the ranch) I know all of this probably sounds very grumbly and ungrateful, especially if you take into account that the whole thing nearly endet up being an unfinished game. But I really was kinda disappointed in the end. There was only one real ending, AJ is pretty much the same regardless of what you do and Clementine survives no matter what. Eh.
I recall them saying that it was a 'story' decision on the forums but I think we all know the real truth in that they didn't have the funds for another episode. They didn't even have the money to give us extra scenes in the episodes we did have. Makes you wonder how they would've structured things if they had another ep.
The decision to make AJ a central character saved the season IMO. Having clem roaming from place to place to find AJ would have sucked and it would have turned out like Season 3 all over again. I'm not really disappointed in them having to scrap some of the new gameplay or open-world features - I don't play telltale games because of gameplay, I play it because of story. For example, to be honest I think being able to die in combat and having to re-try a scene just kills the immersion and they should have been a little more creative with how to reward players for successful QTEs without having the YOU ARE DEAD when you fail. Anyway, considering the resource limitations, I think they did an amazing job with the final season
The Walking Dead is such a broken series of games if you think about it, s1 and s4 were made by small teams with tiny budgets while s2 and s3 were made under horrible leadership and the games all suffered because of this of course, it's crazy that all seasons except the first have been rewritten and have cut stories that to most people sound much better than what we got. I honestly wish the entire franchise would get remade by Adhoc studio (a game studio made by some of the season 1 and season 2 writers) with the original stories in mind but this is just me dreaming and talking crazy, I'm just so sad that we will never get to see what s2 and s3 were gonna be like without rushed release dates and complete rewrites, I have tried contacting some old s2 writers about these cut stories but they seem to have all moved on from this unfortunetely...
I'm curious, did any of them reply to you or tell you anything at all about the original stories? There's some really shady stuff regarding legality from what I know.
Yes, some of them responded and gave me some small details about the original plans for season 2 (I shouldn't mention any names or what they said here openly though) but there are only like a handful of people who were involved in the stories that early. And yeah, I had a feeling there were some legal reasons as to why they have been keeping quiet but since Telltale doesn't even exist anymore, what's stopping them? It could be that they just simply don't care, or that they want to be on the safe side, who knows?
@@fakeninja4447 Could you send me a PM on what they said? My discord is Graysonn#0883 (if you have that). I think there's part legal shenanigans/part loss of interest. I agree that there's no reason to be so protective, it's quite weird.
@@you-5-iver804 Still I don't want him to be that. Honestly changing a few things like some Extra Fishing scenes and stuff would be nice and change the Arvo thing to Eddie and the 400 Days DLC people.
Always get a bit sad hearing stuff being scrapped because budget cuts :(...If money could grow on trees(They didn't have to worry about budget problems) It would've been real nice to have more flashbacks, character development points, locations, and smaller characters having bigger roles during different points all throughout this season..I'm content that it got an ending though..
If only we know that telltale has limited budget on making the final season, i guarrantee we fans throughout the world would openly donates some so that the season can be more adventerous and longer playtime
It seems kind of strange to me how AJ was supposedly not going to be such an important character, considering he was the driving force behind the ending conflict in season 2, and was Clementine’s focus all throughout season 3
Make sure to stick around until the end of the video! Some things I didn't include in the video for time: [[From another developer, not Kent about the party scene in ep3 originally being a freewalk/hub section]] "there was once a freewalk before the “party” right after Clem says “I guess I’ll…Mingle?” (I think Kent talked about why this was cut in an ask? It was a very smart reason. Pacing, basically.) But on the Vi side of that scene, she and AJ were writing in Aasim’s journal together (in “his” voice) about how all of his friends came to save him, and how happy he was to come home. It was a sweet bonding moment between Vi and AJ (and showed some love for our boy Aasim), so I’d say that’s one of the things I miss most." [[About Louis' Road to Survival description (before ep1 came out)]] "Louis was definitely trap-master in the earlier drafts of TFS, and you can tell he still helps with them and likes using them in 401, but it’s more clear in the final draft that Willy and Aasim are the ones that must have designed and built them. RTS stuff based in TFS has some ideas that are now out of date regarding how we ended up doing things in the final product, and that’s one of them." [[Kent also described an early version of ep4. It's interesting but way too long for me to include in the video]]. "Can speak a little about proto-404, because the outcome of the bridge scene was one of the bigger changes once we realized the episode needed far more dire consequences to your AJ related choices. In a very early version of the episode, Tenn was directly responsible for Clem getting bit. Instead of freezing on the bridge, he climbed up the cliff with Clem and AJ and while reaching down for a horrified and slow Tenn (traumatized by Minnie’s death) Clem got herself bit lifting him. Violet/Louis always survived bridge and got away over the fence like they can in the final version. AJ then reacted differently depending on your cave choices, either swallowing his anger and helping Tenn up, or jumping on him and punching him in fury for getting Clem bit. Then when they arrive at the barn, before going inside, Tenn (if AJ attacked him) tries to kill Clem with the axe! He argued she was gonna turn (like Minnie) and we can’t be trapped in there with her. AJ snacks the shit outta Tenn and uses his gun to make Tenn run past the barn (telling him to draw as many walkers as possible). If this happened, Tenn survived, and showed up at the shack scene later for a very tense reunion with AJ. If AJ was forgiving towards Tenn, he went into the barn with Clem and AJ (causing you to kill more walkers on the way) and in a crucial moment threw himself outside the barn doors so AJ could close them, getting a heroic sacrifice. Walker Tenn showed up at the shack later. The problem with all this was that AJ’s biggest choice didn’t feel like a big enough deal, as it only determined the fate of Tenn, and him living was only a feel bad thing as a lie (you thought he got Clem killed when he appeared at shack, but you just didn’t know yet that Clem was still alive). And if you forgave him at Shack, it was a pretty”perfect” ending, which was too easy an out for the player. Adding the fates of Louis/Violet into Tenn’s was the right amount of “no right choice” the whole situation needed. A lot of this was also a change in what we decided to do with Violet. In a much earlier (way pre-403’s release) version of 404, Captured!Violet became a straight up antagonist in the beach scene post boat escape, getting into a fist fight with Clem and then being forced to come back to the school or just vanishing into the distance, friendship totally broken. Even if she made it home to the school, she used to leave during the final scene, her trust in people broken so badly she decides to go on the road alone. The idea here was to balance out Louis’s physical maiming with Violet’s relationship with you breaking totally, but once the Tenn/Bridge situation changed this no longer worked. If Louis died, and Violet left… that was a pretty downer ending. So the eye burning thing was added instead, and decided that was suffering enough for captured Violet. In the end AJ’s most important act determining the fate of the 3 most important NPCs in the game works much better than all that earlier stuff. And Lou/Vi dying to save Tenn is just a solid a conclusion to their character arcs as Tenn dying for Minnie. And AJ having to kill or reunite with his first real friend also rounds out AJ’s arc."
@@michealjacksonsinnocent2488 i doubt. Too many outcomes. And if they did only Javi. They were low on money so imagine either Kate and Gabe/David Gabe/only Gabe and Javi. Simply too many outcomes.
damn, i found this road-trip storyline rly interesting. Imagine the game could originally present TWO vast story arcs: first with Boarding School, Delta raiders and all that stuff we already know; and the other one, where Clem leaves the area with Aj and some kids in order to find new community. And player can choose which he/she prefers! That would be awesome. It would solve "choices-don't-really-matter"-problem almost immediately. But in that case, the game never would be published:
I knew the school was meant to expand! It seemed like such a waste that so much of it was modeled out and alluded to (especially when Marlon talks about the old areas of the school). Would have loved that on top of the new mechanics like Zombie combat. I can absolutely understand that this game was made with two quarters and a dime and am just glad it came out and Clem’s story ended well.
Hi, it me, Kett. Glad to see that the Clem-house stuff is in here, and I am pretty sure that the art is from S4, as the game itself has absolutely new and unique textures for her house, that never show up anywhere else, and (iirc) as explained in another video on this channel, one of the textures hints at a passage of time (something relatively called RoadDestroyed, the road was fine when Clem last saw her house).
I kinda liked the old version of the story line were the school collapsed and they were travelling? Idk why but I think it would have been a cool story! BUT DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVED THE FINAL SEASON
Regardless of what it could have been, Kent and his team did an amazing job with the resources he had available! I'm just thankful we have what we have. Thanks Kent, Thanks Skybound.
Wish we actually got "reclaiming parts of school". I guess this could've been a good plot for a DLC... Or season 5? Also I'd love to see Javier and Kate... Maybe also Gabe...
TWD series is the best and most emotional story driven game I’ve played. Despite the issues with telltale as a company season 4 was really great and i was happy with the ending. But I can’t imagine how much better it could’ve been if telltale was properly managed and funded
Hey man! Been a fan for a long time now, and all I just wanted to say was that we, as a community, appreciate all you've done. All the datamining, the theories, the videos, they're all thanks to you. Half the information and concept art you bring up in your videos I've never even seen before. Your videos are always very informative, straight to the point, and always well edited too. I love how you're able to show us behind the scenes in what really went through some of the developer's heads while making the game. It brings insight into how many iterations of the game that exist. Am I happy with how the game turned out? Fuck yeah. Couldn't have asked anything more out of those poor developers that went through hell with Telltale just to bring us such a fantastic game and an end to one of the most iconic game series out there. With how many different versions of the story and cut content that's out there, I'm honestly surprised more DLC hasn't been a thing. Everybody seemed to really enjoy 400 Days, myself included. I remember when the trailer came out for it and I got so hyped. It's a shame the characters in it were never *really* capitalized on, but I digress. DLC should be a thing. I think it would help fill in plot holes and would be an awesome opportunity for the #StillNotBitten team to explore themselves more creatively. That's half the reason why I'm so excited for more TWD material from Skybound and the team. Thank you so much for all the content you've provided us with over the years @InColdBlood. I'm glad you started using your microphone, because not only is your accent absolutely amazing, it's also a lot easier hearing everything instead of reading everything on screen lol. Seriously though, you're the MVP and I hope you realize that. I can't wait to see more content from you! Much love
Meh, I'm happy with how the game turned out in the end because when it comes to Telltale it's always better to leave those "what ifs" to the power of your imagination. The "old team" was also made up of ANF creatives in leadership positions without Kirkbride and others so that easily could have ended up as another ANF 2.0 That part about Aasim's salt though... I wasn't expecting to get emotional in a datamining video.
'The principal cast, their designs and personalities were the same' in the pax reveal it suggests otherwise. Louis was very different, more of a nostalgic guy who clings to the old world, and we know that current Louis makes AJ feel better by saying the old world was pretty shitty.
I really liked the "decorations for room" in this game. I think we should've get more free walk in this game, but the budget... it did not allow for that
Now... this is just sad. I’d love to see at least some of these ideas in TFS. And don’t get me wrong, I'm really grateful that they decided to actually make a game and end Clem’s history but... It sounds like it could’ve been so much more. The roadtrip idea gives me Season 1 vibes (my favourite season btw) and I love it. I guess Telltale’s story is now just a lesson to other game companies. A lesson how to manage your money, your projects and your workes... Still, Telltale, you won't be forgotten. Thank you for creating something special.
Honestly, for the tight budget they did really well. I think staying in the school was better for the story overall as both season 1, 2 and 3 had the player travel a good bit. I cannot imagine them doing a traveling style game again with this budget. Still, the idea of reclaiming areas and the school sounds really cool. I really wish we could have gotten that.
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1E4hgq9_lbTJUX8wBefprG3rZvD4633Lw?usp=sharing Download this folder then drop it into your WD4 archives. I have the steam version so for me it would be Steam>steamapps>common>The Walking Dead Final Season>Archives (copy paste the folder files in the link I gave you to there). It might break some scenes and the zombies don't move but they can be killed.
Watching this makes me sad, there was so much more to this game that never got to see the light of day. I wish telltale had changed their business model from charging only $20 for a game to instead charging full price $60 with a much deeper experience. The characters in these games were too good for shallow point and click adventure games. What we got was great, but it could have been so much better and it deserved to be so much better. I really hope skybound are planning on giving this team a huge budget for a brand new walking dead video game.
Honestly I'm impressed this game ended up as fantastic as it it. Like, actually has the community split over whether it or S1 is better. Considering the constraints both temporally and financially, you'd think the game would be, well, A New Frontier 2.
It would have been really nice to have an entire boarding school to reclaim from the dead as a post story DLC involving the caravan mentioned in the ending of episode 4.
Just looked it up, you're right. It's so quick I didn't even really notice. Though now it makes me question why Gina is completely useless during that scene and does nothing to take her gun back...
When clem has a flashback to lee, he says come visit again when it’s finished, so my theory is there was going to be a flashback to clems house and then the game would finish there or something, back where it all started
I don't know how much you know about Valve (the company). But they have a lot of money, no deadlines and management, just small developer teams that make different things (like Kents team that took over TFS). So it's like a complete opposite to Telltale with tons of dev freedom. Imagine if Telltale was like Valve, the games would take 3-5 years to make, but at least all the ideas and developers desires would be done and complete.
Funnily enough, the original game (before they decided on Walking Dead) Telltale wanted to do was a Left 4 Dead story mode essentially and they asked Valve about it but Valve weren't keen. Much later, Sean Vanaman/Jake Rodkin's (two big people behind S1) company got aquired by Valve. So it all kind of came full circle in a really weird way lol. That said, as for a TWD made by Valve, if that was ever in development then I fully doubt it would ever get released. Valve don't really release or develop games as much as they used to.
@@InColdBloodTTG "Much later, Sean Vanaman/Jake Rodkin's (two big people behind S1) company got aquired by Valve. So it all kind of came full circle in a really weird way lol." That's what's really weird, essentially Valve got the best writers of former Telltale, imo. "That said, as for a TWD made by Valve, if that was ever in development then I fully doubt it would ever get released. Valve don't really release or develop games as much as they used to." Like I said, Valve is just a bunch of small dev teams and they do whatever they wanna do, so all the project cancellations are up to every teams members, since there's not upper management. With that in mind, if Still.Not.Bitten team was to be acquired by Valve (like Campo Santo (for some strange reason)), they would keep the original crew and finish their projects (unless there'd be a big disagreement). The Valve structure really suits the kind of dev mentality Kent Muddle has. I guess we'll have to see what Vanaman and Rodkin do with "In the Valley of gods". If they finish and release it this year (like they originally planned to), then I'd be right about the whole management and cancellation thingie at Valve, and my dream of "Telltale with complete dev freedom at Valve" would be presumable .
I think i remember reading on their website or somewhere, where it says that the definitive version of this pack is suppose to include some of the cut contents from the game to add new experience in the collection.
I was really hoping there would be enough material for you to make this video, and thankfully that hope was met! All of these TWD Cut-Content videos you made were great, and I greatly enjoyed having an insider-look into the series development "behind-the-scenes". Also props for including that pinned comment with more of the interesting stuff that Kent and the developers mentioned, and I respect your choice to not make the video overly long, but I think those could have been included, they seemed pretty impactful. Regardless, great video (and series), and thank you for making it!
Ay I wanna thank you. What you mentioned at the end of your vid made my friend discover something and lit a spark of discoveries. Clem's house is confirmed bruh!!!
okay maybe somebody already saw it but i noticed that in Concept art (Character design) there was a title: "The Walking Dead: Season four" by that i mean maybe it wasn't meant to be The final Season. But i guess the budget didn't let them to continue...
Now that I think about it maybe Tenn was supposed to be in the ranch with AJ and flashback of how he got his scar would have been from AJ's perspective. This wouod also explain burned building near the ranch background that looks like the school.
5:58 Mitch was sent to the school for his habit of making bombs and blowing shit ups. It's likely Mitch did it accidentally or intentionally and Tenn was inside and he didn't know it. They state Tenn got ppl hurt or killed by making stupid decisions. What if Tenn was inside when it blew up/caught fire and kids went in and died trying to save him just for them to find him laying outside burnt but alive? Edit: If Aasim was sent for arson then it coulda been him too. Arson sounds more likely than a bomb tbh. But I wonder if anyone died and why Tenn was inside or close enough to get burnt.
Wasn't Jesus also supposed to show up? Plus more comic characters? I remember when a screenshot of Road to Survival was leaked showing 'Jesus (Done Running). The episode name was true so where was Jesus? There were again 0 comic characters and barely any comic connection besides James. And I'm sure they promised more after season 2 but since then we've had 1 character. This series was good, but very underwhelming. Rebuilding the school and reclaiming the area would have made it better. It bugged me how they were happy living in the shit heap for 10 years. I'd at least sweep up a bit.... And we needed more answers for a 'Final season', like Christa's fate, or Kenny/Jane if either of them were alive but walked away at the end of S2. (For me, they're both dead.) Molly, Arvo, 400 days characters (Eddie was cool, but I didn't really notice him. I thought I recognised him, but would have been better to have a couple of main characters as well.) And just more on previous groups. New Frontier? What happened to them? And more flashbacks please! I remember the leaked flashback for Clem and the babysitter last season. Why not move it over to this one?
That's one of my biggest issues with this season in particular. It feels like another season of Clementine's journey but it doesn't really feel 'final' at all.
Quality over quantity, that's the lesson from Telltale. They made some great games, but spread themselves too thin over a very limited game engine that was a fad. It was kinda like the pogs or crocs of the gaming world. We loved Walking dead for it story and continuing characters, and we come back because we have attachements to those characters. But honestly who has played the other games they made? People got bored of the same cheap mechanics telltale was using, stopped buying, while telltale continued making more of what people weren't buying. It sucks they went out of business, and we missed out on so much for TWD, but idk how they didn't expect to go out of business with how they handled their titles.
I wish Christa was the villain instead of Lilly. That would’ve opened doors to so many story possibilities. Lilly as the villain just didn’t work. Unlike her, Christa actually had motivations for being evil.
Jayton S. We never see how the baby gets whacked and Omid died by being a dumbass Regardless christa in her most grief ridden period stuck with Clem so I doubt she’d have a vendetta like 5 years later
Jayton S. Lee: left her for dead in the open with nothing but the clothes on her ass (sleeveless btw) against the encroaching winter Christa: still stayed with Clem for 14 months even in her most grief stricken period That would be so ridiculous
Lemme sum up the second part of this video

Pretty much. I think he keeps saying that to make it clear that they were pretty restricted by what they could and couldn't do.
So Clementine could've honored Kenny's wish to find a boat.
Kennedy would be proud
Yeah. Lilly technically beat Kenny to the boat thing and actually got to use one.
Still not sure what Kenny's plan was there. Were they going to try a different country? An island (because that worked out so great in Dawn of the Dead)? Stay on the boat and live there?
Although, I guess nobody really realised this was going to be a decade plus long situation back then.
@@LordofFullmetal walkers can't swim. It would isolate them from one problem and Kenny is a fisherman. He's capable of getting food.
@@DutchRebel1942 Yeah but as you could see, they can "walk" underwater. And you know what they say about sound traveling thru water hence an island wouldn't be that safe unless the edges are sharp(sorry for shitty explanation) meaning the island is unclimbable for walkers

Nah the mcaroll ranch was big enough
I loved all the episodes but only Episode 4 felt too short and stuff. Even showing what AJ did in the Barn would have been good.

@Gamerpercy456 Telltale was not in a financially stable position. It's sad how their legacy shuttered. Nice seeing you, Percy!
I just hope The Wolf Among us will be okay with the Money
Anyone else get chills when seeing the ranch in the background? Idk why but it's just ominously standing there in the open, almost like a metaphor for always being in the back of Clementine's thoughts.
@Final Imp4ct I know. It's kinda scary if you think about it. Who knows what could've gone on there in the original story.

Looking at the cut content makes me feel like theis final season could have been alot better
But the final season was good tho, def the best that telltale has put out there ever since Wolf among us and TWD S1
InColdBlood wish they would have went with the traveling story to rather than sitting at the school we only see small parts of

It's been like that with other Walking Dead games by Telltale.

It has been over two year's make sense she changed.

Season 1 has a few things I would've liked but it was good nonetheless
Season 2 had A LOT of stuff cut that I'd of much rather had than the final product
Season 3 just needed changing honestly
And I don't know what to say about this season honestly a lot of the stuff that was cut was because of budget but I just felt like this season needed more
Yeah, IMO “Done Running” was the best episode in the entirety of TWD games, but then the quality started to taper off and for me it started to get not-so-good halfway through episode 3.
S2 didn't have as much as s1 and s3/4
Tbh s3 feels so off compared to the rest of the seris
The concept art of ten looks a few years younger than his final version. I think this is huge evidence that the original version of the game was set less than a year after ANF
Yeah, cuz if you see,in the cover of the game,AJ looks younger than he did in the final game, and Clem was still with that Jacket from Season 3.
InColdBlood My mans

The AJ haircut would have been a great final touch too.
I'm so glad AJ was made into a major plot element rather than a side character. They did an amazing job with building his character.

(What happened on the ranch)
I know all of this probably sounds very grumbly and ungrateful, especially if you take into account that the whole thing nearly endet up being an unfinished game.
Agreed. If they hadn’t gone bankrupt I think we would’ve gotten a wholly different game in general. At least storywise
Still. Want Clem and AJ to die in the Snow or do you want them to live in a beautiful School with Happy people? I already know my option.
Abel says they are at war in Richmond and clementine says Richmond is a warfare and that's why she doesn't go back
The decision to make AJ a central character saved the season IMO.

Kinda sucks that some characters were left out. I like the fact they made her look more tired.
Make sure to stick around until the end of the video!
Some things I didn't include in the video for time:
[[From another developer, not Kent about the party scene in ep3 originally being a freewalk/hub section]]
"there was once a freewalk before the “party” right after Clem says “I guess I’ll…Mingle?” (I think Kent talked about why this was cut in an ask? It was a very smart reason. Pacing, basically.) But on the Vi side of that scene, she and AJ were writing in Aasim’s journal together (in “his” voice) about how all of his friends came to save him, and how happy he was to come home. It was a sweet bonding moment between Vi and AJ (and showed some love for our boy Aasim), so I’d say that’s one of the things I miss most."
[[About Louis' Road to Survival description (before ep1 came out)]]
"Louis was definitely trap-master in the earlier drafts of TFS, and you can tell he still helps with them and likes using them in 401, but it’s more clear in the final draft that Willy and Aasim are the ones that must have designed and built them.
RTS stuff based in TFS has some ideas that are now out of date regarding how we ended up doing things in the final product, and that’s one of them."
[[Kent also described an early version of ep4.
@George I'm glad you like my 'Irish' accent but I'm from Scotland and am only half Irish :)
My only big question left was did the Garcia’s somehow fit into the the story and when?

@@michealjacksonsinnocent2488 i doubt. Too many outcomes. And if they did only Javi. They were low on money so imagine either Kate and Gabe/David Gabe/only Gabe and Javi. Simply too many outcomes.
seeing what the final season _could_ have been is kinda sad
damn, i found this road-trip storyline rly interesting.
I really prefer clementine's demo outfit. Her outfit in season 4 is nice but it's kinda clunky. Her demo look is just so sleek and mature!!

There storys are unfinished
You may be like "Oh no David, Gabe and Kate are determined. They won't be there" How about with each decision you made?
TWD series is the best and most emotional story driven game I’ve played. Despite the issues with telltale as a company season 4 was really great and i was happy with the ending. But I can’t imagine how much better it could’ve been if telltale was properly managed and funded
seriously man, i really would of loved to see their true visions come to life
The "old team" was also made up of ANF creatives in leadership positions without Kirkbride and others so that easily could have ended up as another ANF 2.0
That part about Aasim's salt though... I wasn't expecting to get emotional in a datamining video.
'The principal cast, their designs and personalities were the same'
in the pax reveal it suggests otherwise. Louis was very different, more of a nostalgic guy who clings to the old world, and we know that current Louis makes AJ feel better by saying the old world was pretty shitty.
That's a good point. I'm only repeating what Kent said though!
That cool how they worked with what they got and still had an immersive and awesome story.
PLEASE do a tutorial on how to walk through the buildings!!!! I have wanted to know this for so long! I will be eternally greatful

Download this folder then drop it into your WD4 archives. I have the steam version so for me it would be
Steam>steamapps>common>The Walking Dead Final Season>Archives (copy paste the folder files in the link I gave you to there). It might break some scenes and the zombies don't move but they can be killed.
@@InColdBloodTTG omg thank you so much! I have always wanted to explore this game, as the way it was made just seems strange to me
They should release an art book which includes cut content and what they were for
I kinda wish they did that for the definitive edition. At least we got the concept art...
@@InColdBloodTTG yeah that's true
Wow, it seems for once I’m actually happier with how the altered script turned out more than the original!
But then many people such as myself wouldn't have been able to afford the game at 60$.
Honestly I'm impressed this game ended up as fantastic as it it. Like, actually has the community split over whether it or S1 is better. Considering the constraints both temporally and financially, you'd think the game would be, well, A New Frontier 2.
"There are no big changes that affect the story"
Aside from the huge cut chunk of the game where Clem and AJ return to Clems house in Georgia.
Thank God they didn't do that it would be stupid and suicidal and pointless there is nothing there left for clem
It would have been really nice to have an entire boarding school to reclaim from the dead as a post story DLC involving the caravan mentioned in the ending of episode 4.
I'd trade A New Frontier (season 3) for and upgraded final season any day
XD
Tenn does indeed grab Gina's gun when Gina is about to shoot James, he grabs it it out of her holster.
Just looked it up, you're right. It's so quick I didn't even really notice. Though now it makes me question why Gina is completely useless during that scene and does nothing to take her gun back...
I was waiting for a video analyzing in-game files from you.
AND YEEHAW IT'S HERE.
Thank You
When clem has a flashback to lee, he says come visit again when it’s finished, so my theory is there was going to be a flashback to clems house and then the game would finish there or something, back where it all started

"Much later, Sean Vanaman/Jake Rodkin's (two big people behind S1) company got aquired by Valve. So it all kind of came full circle in a really weird way lol."
That's what's really weird, essentially Valve got the best writers of former Telltale, imo.
"That said, as for a TWD made by Valve, if that was ever in development then I fully doubt it would ever get released. Valve don't really release or develop games as much as they used to."
Like I said, Valve is just a bunch of small dev teams and they do whatever they wanna do, so all the project cancellations are up to every teams members, since there's not upper management.
If they finish and release it this year (like they originally planned to), then I'd be right about the whole management and cancellation thingie at Valve, and my dream of "Telltale with complete dev freedom at Valve" would be presumable
.
Valve doesn’t make games
Interesting video man, think the devs did a great job with this game with the tight budget and time restriction they had
I love how soft your voice was in this. Other videos like this the people are nearly shouting.
I'm just grateful we got an ending.
"Oh my darling, Oh my darling, Oh my darliiiing *LEGENTINE* " RIP Clem's leg
Though you wrote LegendTine not LegEnTine.
Oh yes, the original story!
Awesome video sir! This was really interesting.

Maybe some scenes are coming with the devinitive edition. I hope so
Ay I wanna thank you.
Telltale shutting down also didn't help things.
They are continuing the story tho from what I heard

I really liked clementine’s tired face. It would make sense why she was tired because she’s been wandering around for years with AJ by her side
Thank you once again for your incredible content!
Now that I think about it maybe Tenn was supposed to be in the ranch with AJ and flashback of how he got his scar would have been from AJ's perspective. This wouod also explain burned building near the ranch background that looks like the school.
marlon without a mullet made me want to throw up i dont know why lmao
I wish in the future skybound will make a version 2 of the final season like they’ll focus on the old story I wanna see how the story should have end
I hope we get some DLC stuff :( those concepts were great
I would’ve love to see:
1) AJ have Kenny’s hat throughout the game
2) clem going back to Richmond for Javi can teach AJ how to play baseball
Richmond is destroyed
Imagine if they had the budget to make it. Omg it will be the best

I really like the way that you don’t miss anything. GREAT VIDEO
Jayton S. Such as?
Losing her boyfriend and unborn child. She could’ve even blamed Clementine for their deaths. That would’ve caused interesting conflict.
Jayton S. We never see how the baby gets whacked and Omid died by being a dumbass
Regardless christa in her most grief ridden period stuck with Clem so I doubt she’d have a vendetta like 5 years later
@@looinrims Lilly had a vendetta against Lee years after. Christa is no different.
Jayton S. Lee: left her for dead in the open with nothing but the clothes on her ass (sleeveless btw) against the encroaching winter
Christa: still stayed with Clem for 14 months even in her most grief stricken period
That would be so ridiculous
