It was a time where people were excited about new emerging technologies and the potential of the internet and its exponential rise to make life better. We were optimistic about the future and what it had in store for us. imo, this all started rapidly-dying around 2016. The world just hasn't felt right since, and I'm certainly not optimistic about the future these days - as is the general sentiment for most of us. Pop music generally mimics the feelings of society at large, and imo, this is the kind of music people make when a culture is happy. I'm just glad I was the right age to experience such a great period of time before it went away. We're looking at some very difficult years ahead of us.

    • @kennypickettsburner4089

@AvenirRacing Your last sentence may contain the sentiment that has been poisoning our society since 2016. Everyone seems to have become a damn fortune teller predicting dystopia since then, in an oddly self righteous manner. As if people would rather be right about an awful future than wrong with a brighter future.
I was a teen in the 2010s, as much as it was partying and good vibes, I can tell you there was a whole lot of stuff brewing in the background of everything that is the very reason things have been tough now. A lot of music for example glorified dysfunctional human behavior. You couldn't pay me to go back to those years, 2010s nostalgia is really more about ignorance being bliss. If the 2010s really was good for us we wouldn't be dealing with the cause and effect of it now

Not to mention, there was an everlasing war in the Middle East, and people literally thought the world was going to end in 2012. There were no good vibes anywhere. I've definitely noticed how depressing popular music has become for the most part, and imo, the kind of music a culture puts out is generally tied to the general outlook of the average person, which these days is bleak - but back in 2010, the world was becoming connected, the internet was in full swing, and we were all so optimistic about its potential for good, alongside all the new tech such as smartphones, and how they'd change the world for the better. Hyperpoliticization of every aspect of life wasn't a thing, and we just generally had less to worry about (speaking from the perspective of an 18 year old at the time, keep in mind.)
Technology and the internet were going to change the world and solve so many problems. We were so fucking naive... at least partying was a heap of fun.

I am 23 now, but I was 10 in 2010. My dad actually works in radio, so not only did I hear these songs in school and on the radio, but I would also hear them when I accompanied him to work on weekends/breaks/sick days. I still have the studio mix cds that had the hottest hits of the time, commodities I probably shouldnt have stuffed in my backpack, but I did. As a kid with a lot of trauma and memory blocks, I cant remember much of my childhood, but I distinctly remember every single song, and exact moments of my life when I would hear them the most. I dont even need to close my eyes, i can picture the surroundings of the station so clearly. I can taste the weird flat bread breakfast sandwiches from the Subway next door to the station. I can remember the old RUclips layout. I remember the empty cafeteria, decked out with streamers, and colorful lights. I can remember pulling my friends out to dance, or going so hard I needed to go sit down and take sips of a soda, because I was anemic and had asthma. I remember the outfits we all wore. Music is amazing, and so is this video.

But I miss this music because I grew up with it, I couldn't never miss mick Jagger music, as that would literally be something a boomer might feel. What I agree with is that today's world misses good music, like much of Jagger's. But it is not sad to be nostalgic about the good music someone grows up with. it's not enough to simulate every facet of the formative years these moments took place in, and therein lies the problem. My brothers and sisters, I realize there are two perspectives of nostalgia : "Why can't I just go back?", and "I'm glad I can remember those moments, cuz it means it was real." I was and still am a slave to the former perspective, trying to not romanticize the past so much. As I'm currently dealing with the struggles of growing up, I can't help but see the past through rose tinted glasses. I also don't have any idea how to move throughout life where the crushing realities of the world make me want to go back to simpler times. I was in middle school during these years. I was never huge on the music at the time since I am a metalhead, but I have such a fondness for it now a days. That was the soundtrack of the best few years of my life.

This video is absolutely perfect. I worked at a club in 2010 and every song you featured is a song I've heard. This brought back so much nostalgia. It sounded just like this when I was getting ready in the employee locker room 🥰

I was born in 2010 but this feels oddly nostalgic. It may just be because I heard a lot of this music on the radio sometimes but the 2010’s is still my favorite decade, so much great stuff happened then

I find it funny all the comments reminiscing about how "music back then used to be so fun!" because back in 2010, people complained that everything was better in the past. Looking back almost 14 years later, and it feels like it was a much simpler time! Such is life.

I think the emotion of nostalgia is captured beautifully by these kinds of videos, because
    1. they propose the idea of traveling in time with the title and the sound effect
    2. the sound effects sound distant, just like these times are distant.

was 2 years old in 2010. I see tons of videos showing events or experiences from the 2010's that I simply wasn't conscious enough to remember or experience the good parts. It's sad, but I like trying to imagine how it was with these videos. Must've been a blast.

I'm 23 now but I was 10 for most of 2010 (turned 11 in November). I haven't listened to this kind of music since around that time either but it is incredible how nostalgic this video is. Practically every song in this video would play in about the same order on the radio just about every day, it's like going back to a completely different world from where we are now.

I was 12 in 2010 and went to every middle school dance that year. I recall a specific moment during one of them, I actually went to the bathroom while "DJ got us falling in love" was playing. Hearing it recreated in this video gave me chills.
Also every song on here was played at those dances. Except Moves like Jagger, that wasn't played until late 2011/early 2012ish.
