Hello Bharath, Could you please advise how is cloud academy for DEV ops, as Edureka is quite expensive. I am oracle dba with 15 years of exp. I am struggling to decide to move into cloud or devops...so many factors...please advise
Hello Ajay - I've been away from YT due to travel/covid etc. Sorry for responding late. I've not personally used cloud academy. But it looks good to me at first sight. So go for it. I'd suggest you to explore any roles in your company where you get to work with cloud or devops technologies. That would be way easier than applying for devops engg roles without any practical experience in it. It's not impossible. Internal transition is much easier.
Hard to answer my friend. Growth is possible in both careers. You basically will go from devops/db engg to lead to principal to architect to chief architect. Traditional DBA opportunities where you need to install/upgrade/patch database servers will decrease slowly. Easy/Growth depends on what your strengths are. If you're good at programming, then take the devops/software engg route. If you like playing with data, go in DBMS/Data/DB engg direction. If you're a good communicator and have good team coordination skills, become a product manager. I like being on the technical side, building software, solving tech challenges. I don't enjoy meetings much. So I continue to be an individual contributor. One of my friends was also a techie like me, but he wanted to get into management and become a director/vp etc. So he pivoted to product manager, which is a great segway into management lane. Guess what, his calendar is filled with meetings all day.
@@mdafroz2357 I felt like becoming a DBA (DBMS) was much easier than becoming a devops or software engineer. But traditional DBA career is not lucrative anymore.
Oracle database has been around in the industry for over three decades. It is not going anywhere. But since we are seeing a lot of automation happening especially around traditional DBA tasks like installation, upgrade, patching, I am suggesting to pickup Python, and AWS at least. Personally I've been learning a lot in DevOps domain. DBAs would have to transition to Architect. Data Engineer, DB Migration engg etc.
Thanks a lot for answering this Bharath. This is what I was looking for :)
Thanks for sharing this 🙌
