I love this bit where at 7:01, Brennan does an NPC voice and Lou just responds with their name. There's no way they went over who this was before, Brennan just gave Lou the power to name every minor NPC in the city, which easily gives the feeling that Kingston just knows everybody. It's a really clever "advanced play group" technique.

I noticed that a lot in the first episode when both Lou and Murph are talking to all the random neighbours, animals and insects around. It's amazing how flawless they go with it. Definitely going to try to implement that in my games.

Definitely. But again, this an advanced player-group technique where everyone trusts each other. Once you can let the players help shape the world, you have the perfect gaming group.
They're all just such great improv comedians but Lou really shines in this group imo
Edit: I didn't realize but Lou is totally who makes the NPC have a mustache too

Headcanon: Every single time a whole crowd of people recognize Misty, at least one person just goes "Is that Mr. March!?"
so I saw one dnd group that had a house rule for a particular campaign where every npc including enemy that was sentient rolled a d20 on a 1 the character would recognize one of the pc's as the horrible child actor from that one sitcom. just god awful acting, the worse.

Emily and Murph are married IRL, so it’s easy to see that their energies are compatible, even when they’re playing a somewhat unstable drunken italian woman and a massive talking rat. They’re made for each other
You can make insane friends in NYC, ones you'd never expect, I mean, not giant rat men, but random drinking buddies.

Heroin was among the drugs to surround my social group during my childhood. I knew someone in middle school that started using, and that was around the 13 or 14 year old area.

This Kingston and Pete duo is absolutely sending me. Also, Kingston as the voice of reason is hilarious. I love how the age differences actually create a lot of cool character interactions for the players, stuff we didn’t get to see in fantasy high.
It’s so funny considering that Fabian was probably the furthest thing from a voice of reason in Fantasy High, and Lou manages to pull them both off perfectly. He’s a fantastic improvisational and character actor

I feel like everyone is sleeping on Kingston. His powers are so cool and I just love how much he loves his city and is just trying to be reasonable and helpful. Lou did a great job.

I'll say, i'm just 36:53 minutes in but i am in love with Brennans acting as Alejandro is incredible. He's got the hispanic-english speaking grandpa voice down and the "¿como se dice?" and "mijas" sound just so, natural and it doesnt make me cringe at all which is just incredible considering.

Honestly Brennan's use of the speech crutch of "¿Comó se dice? (Translation:How do you say)" @23:32 Effortlessly is astonishing to me and sounds so authentic. That's exactly the same way my mom and my mom's side of the family says it. God among men
37:20 that was genius on brennans part. with the roll of 12 on persuasion to the girls, instead of just making them deny her outright, he wove a quick reason why they wouldn't want her services that was understandable. little things like this is what separates a good DM from a great one.
It was perfect and Sofia said "Staten Island" with such hope too
Or letting Ricky stop the spread of the peppermint disease and not making him roll for it because the girls were just gonna get healed permanently anyway it’s just so much nicer and moves it along so smoothly
"I guess I'll drink it." Emily has some of the funniest and most chaotic moments in every campaign, attempting to drink boiling hot fountain water
The way Brennan paints the picture of the clock starting to tick and the fractured man SLOWLY dancing after Pete in the dark forest terrifies the FUCK out of me
I love how the first time the party is invited into Kingston’s they summon an army of pigeons and flagrantly throw cinnamon rolls around as Pete silently panics.
How is it Zac’s characters always have the best parents 😭

As someone who does voices and such for my roleplay, I know I typically do research into dialect, slang, speech patterns, etc, especially if it’s an important character I know I’ll be doing a lot. I practice those, and sometimes I’ll make brief notes on speech crutches that I can pull out in a pinch if I need a moment to think of my next line.
Not only that, he did it in a perfect accent too. I’m Mexican and I’m impressed.
Damn, it was so natural I didn’t even catch it! Dude is one hell of an improv actor to bring all these NPCs to life the way he does.

I love the small details they pay attention to in this. When Pete gave Alejandro the juul and Kingston calls him out, Brennan actually motions to put the nonexistent juul into a shirt pocket. Like most games small things get overlooked or don't go into them in lou of furthering the story, yet they all manage to do the small details while continuing the plot. Love this group!
That bit with the Spicy Pigeon had me laughing so hard in a quiet space I had to bury my face in a pillow.
...So like, Zac absolutely met Ricky in real life, right? Like, that character is a real person who he just could not get his head around and now he's a PC because he was a fucking paladin already.
This is such a hard sell from a pure conceptual level, but damn did they do a good job mixing the mundanity and majesty of NYC with the magic of a fantasy setting. A+

I just finished all of fantasy high on RUclips and just started this, I absolute love how rich the story is so far. Brennan does such a great job of giving players creative freedom and shape their world (like Lou naming the minor NPCs they find)
This would make an amazing live action movie. Just the talking with Pete and Kingston was so clear to see them walking down NYC as the crowd parts
