      Coach can you please do a video on Preventing or reducing CTE / head injury when doing regular sparring and/or fighting?
      I want your insights and opinions on this topic because you seem like an intelligent person and not just some dumb jock. So how do you reconcile taking head damage in this chosen career?

    The very first thing I ever wanted to learn was head movement for slick boxing. However as I've practiced I've realized I'm not one of those phenoms who can slip like they're covered in oil. Because of that, the concept of a center line and keeping you're head off of it when closing the distance has helped me tremendously. I highly recommend to any beginner to use a slip bag, Tyson style, just to make sure your fundamentals are down packed.

      I recommend training with a reflex ball. It'll really train your eyes to see shots coming. It'll also train you to hit where the ball will be instead of where it was. This will let your eyes openings and will break the habit of flinching or closing your eyes.

    I took a decade of traditional martial arts, never a word about taking head off line. A couple weeks at an MMA gym and tons of drilling, and now every time I punch my head goes off line. It actually increased my power by a surprising amount, because now my whole body is twisting into the punch. Pretty incredible how this one fix changes so much.

      5 years of TMA here; is amazing how bad it can actually be. What confuses me is that nobody seems to acknowledge it within the class/style. Even when it's made more obvious by one guy obviously bringing in these elements and having success with it. It's like people pretend it isn't happening in order to preserve the weird cult like sanctity of 'the art'. They're rather get hit in the face 🤔 Other than my kicks, literally all my sparring knowledge and skills come from watching guys like this and studying Muay Thai. Have finally found a Muay Thai club I can get to, so the full switch is coming!

    ❤Love all the videos you’re putting out Gabriel. You’re like a virtual coach for me that I never knew I needed. And I have a quick question for you - How do i put my head off the center line when I’m in southpaw stance sparring with someone in orthodox stance and I’m leading with a jab. I found myself going right into their counter cross whenever I tried to put my head off the center line. Maybe I’m making some rookie mistake but let me know what you think. And again you rock!!

    This is very true. I just predict the exchange and preset my head position everytime off from the centre line.
    So far in my humble five months of kickboxing history, this technique have never betrayed me.
    I have a question, how can I actually box punches like boxers?
    I tend to just sway back or block when they come and cannot use duckings and so forth.

    Hi Gabriel, thank you so much for this video, it's really helpful. But it did make me wonder about the head movement after the entry punch. If you throw the dipping/slip jab, are you then slipping all the way to the other side to throw your right hand?
    Edit: It looks like in the demo you're resetting to a neutral head position after the first punch and then maybe slipping after a few other punches

    I have a question. I’m in a position where i like my gym and coach I’m really close with him. Been there since I started Muay Thai I had a couple amateur fights and won them l but im really the only fighter maybe there are two others but I feel like there is no one else who wants to fight as much as me. There is another gym near me too that has many active successful amateur fighters . I don’t know if I should l change gyms so I can be around other fighters with the same goals as me in fighting often and getting to a high level. Anyone have opinions? Pls comment below.

    • @confettihunterminus1
      @confettihunterminus1 Год назад +2

      It’s your muay thai journey, not your coach’s. Don’t hold yourself back on his accord. Doesn’t mean that you have to leave dramatically. Let him know you appreciate everything he’s shown you but you feel like there isn’t much room for you to grow now and you want to explore other options. BUT, keep in mind that each gym is different. You run the risk of joining a gym you won’t mesh well with.
      TL:DR Leave your gym on good terms in case you ever need to come back lol

    People don’t teach head-movement because they themselves don’t know head-movement. Then they rationalize the lack of head-movement by saying silly things like “you’ll get kicked in the head.”
    Punches are faster and more accurate than kicks. If they can’t punch a moving head, they certainly can’t kick a moving head. 🤷‍♂️
