You can book your virtual 1-on-1 training session with me today. Time is running out. Once fight camp starts I'll be taking a break from zoom session. Book here: GabrielVarga.as.me/
Coach can you please do a video on Preventing or reducing CTE / head injury when doing regular sparring and/or fighting? I want your insights and opinions on this topic because you seem like an intelligent person and not just some dumb jock. So how do you reconcile taking head damage in this chosen career?
Wow, those are some amazing coaching services you're offering! 1:1, training footage review, and opponent evaluation and opponent-tailored training tips. I really hope you're still offering this next year in between your fight camps!
it's absurd how we are getting tips from one of the greatest kickboxers in the world for free on a daily basis. varga you are an absolute inspiration to me. keep going!
The very first thing I ever wanted to learn was head movement for slick boxing. However as I've practiced I've realized I'm not one of those phenoms who can slip like they're covered in oil. Because of that, the concept of a center line and keeping you're head off of it when closing the distance has helped me tremendously. I highly recommend to any beginner to use a slip bag, Tyson style, just to make sure your fundamentals are down packed.
I recommend training with a reflex ball. It'll really train your eyes to see shots coming. It'll also train you to hit where the ball will be instead of where it was. This will let your eyes openings and will break the habit of flinching or closing your eyes.
I took a decade of traditional martial arts, never a word about taking head off line. A couple weeks at an MMA gym and tons of drilling, and now every time I punch my head goes off line. It actually increased my power by a surprising amount, because now my whole body is twisting into the punch. Pretty incredible how this one fix changes so much.
5 years of TMA here; is amazing how bad it can actually be. What confuses me is that nobody seems to acknowledge it within the class/style. Even when it's made more obvious by one guy obviously bringing in these elements and having success with it. It's like people pretend it isn't happening in order to preserve the weird cult like sanctity of 'the art'. They're rather get hit in the face 🤔 Other than my kicks, literally all my sparring knowledge and skills come from watching guys like this and studying Muay Thai. Have finally found a Muay Thai club I can get to, so the full switch is coming!
Been there, done that... Got nailed lots! It was years ago, I learned the hard way exactly what you preach, get off the center line when jabbing. My game improved much more once I began feinting the jab more, these two simple tricks go great together... Great channel!
100% but also just to add don't become predictable. A good opponent will read your pattern and pretty soon know what you're going to do and counter it. So maybe head to the side a few times, then straight.
I'm making leaps and bounds thanks to your passion for sharing your expertise, for free, with the general public. I am going to do my first Muay Thai interclub soon and although my coach is great, your videos have sorted out a lot of my errors and given me a better fight IQ
I was watching Marie Ruumet in an old fight, and her style reminded me of yours. More recently, in her fight against Anissa Meksen, she had her elbows wide, kept trying to use a long guard, and took a pretty good beating
That's great. I'm training for my first fight (I'm 55yrs old). It's just boxing but that was something I'm not doing well. I'll fix that tomorrow. Thanks!!
Your channel is a gold mine! Excellent advices, clear and easy to follow instructions! Watching some videos, pick one or two advices, take them to the next training, try out, record yourself, see if you have done it right.... repeat! My sparring improved drasticly after finding your channel! 1000THX for teaching!
You are a great person varga , the amount of info your giving is insane and these are true gems , i see most coaches with 40% or less info than you make people pay for info while you give everything for free because you want whats best for us truly appreciate it bro
He posted this video, right after I got punched so hard, realized that I was not moving forward enough with the head of the center line, amazing stuff, thanks for the tips!
Fucking gamechanging stuff here for people like me who aren't pros. I watched a previous video where you discussed head movement while punching, tried that and got great rounds out of my sparring sesh. Thank you good sir for the awesome tips.
Gabriel, thank you so much. I have been doing muay-thai for 9 month already, but I still get punched too often. I should really focus on this technique
Unbelievable yesterday I did sparring and I got punched a lot of times. I tought the whole time... What is the solution? What could I do better? Now I see you made a video!! Thanks Gabriel!!!! Will book a session soon.
I do that sometimes but not much. Karate was so linear and it doesnt always work when trying to learn the muay thai range. Didn't realize how effective it is. Thank you
❤Love all the videos you’re putting out Gabriel. You’re like a virtual coach for me that I never knew I needed. And I have a quick question for you - How do i put my head off the center line when I’m in southpaw stance sparring with someone in orthodox stance and I’m leading with a jab. I found myself going right into their counter cross whenever I tried to put my head off the center line. Maybe I’m making some rookie mistake but let me know what you think. And again you rock!!
This is very true. I just predict the exchange and preset my head position everytime off from the centre line. So far in my humble five months of kickboxing history, this technique have never betrayed me. I have a question, how can I actually box punches like boxers? I tend to just sway back or block when they come and cannot use duckings and so forth.
Hi Gabriel, thank you so much for this video, it's really helpful. But it did make me wonder about the head movement after the entry punch. If you throw the dipping/slip jab, are you then slipping all the way to the other side to throw your right hand? Edit: It looks like in the demo you're resetting to a neutral head position after the first punch and then maybe slipping after a few other punches
I have a question. I’m in a position where i like my gym and coach I’m really close with him. Been there since I started Muay Thai I had a couple amateur fights and won them l but im really the only fighter maybe there are two others but I feel like there is no one else who wants to fight as much as me. There is another gym near me too that has many active successful amateur fighters . I don’t know if I should l change gyms so I can be around other fighters with the same goals as me in fighting often and getting to a high level. Anyone have opinions? Pls comment below.
It’s your muay thai journey, not your coach’s. Don’t hold yourself back on his accord. Doesn’t mean that you have to leave dramatically. Let him know you appreciate everything he’s shown you but you feel like there isn’t much room for you to grow now and you want to explore other options. BUT, keep in mind that each gym is different. You run the risk of joining a gym you won’t mesh well with. TL:DR Leave your gym on good terms in case you ever need to come back lol
I think people should be able to train at a number of gyms without resentment from coaches. You are just trying to get better. Why not do a couple days a week at each gym
People don’t teach head-movement because they themselves don’t know head-movement. Then they rationalize the lack of head-movement by saying silly things like “you’ll get kicked in the head.” Punches are faster and more accurate than kicks. If they can’t punch a moving head, they certainly can’t kick a moving head. 🤷♂️

Your students are very lucky to have you as a teacher 🙏 You are both talented and a great person!
Lol
@@adstumo that was the most random lol ever
This couldn’t have been timed better. I was eating combos in sparring last night and was pondering today how to get out of these flurries mid-combo.
Same here 😂😂😂,it’s crazy how getting hit on the head changes your mindset
@@chula538 the human brain doesn’t like pain lmao no matter how tough u are

Just taken up boxing and this is what I need to here, basic simple instructions that I can remember in the ring at a novice level, thank you.

Stapled to your temple…I like that.
As usual, you do the video which addresses the problem I'm currently having 👍

This has helped a fucking lot man thx. I kept on getting punched in the nose every time I tried to throw a punch😂. Now I don’t get hit as much.
Gabriel, you're a real treasure. Thank you so much for sharing all that wisdom!
Dead on, #1 simple thing to do to take fewer punches 🙂

This worked exactly as promised!
This is exactly the reason I got tagged with the jab the whole dang light contact match I went. Thanks Gabriel! 💪
Respect for one of the best and most commited kickboxer. Great lessons

i Included that move in my jabs and most of the times I land mine and I avoid the counter, great tip!

an elite level kickboxer who also knows how to teach. those kids are lucky.

Where did u train?
Thank you very much for sharing this tips 🙏
My pleasure 😊
It's so simple but very helpful also I didn't realise I needed to go forward while going to the side now it makes sense why I can't hit them

I think your name is funny, I have ADHD and i am addicted to martial arts.
@ihs200 yeah maybe there's a link. I'm pretty sure a lot of the fighters are a bit mental
This is a perfect video. My head movement is good, but I could definatly use some improvements. My teacher says my head movement is pretty fast.
Superb video
Bro you earned my subscription
The Belts behind you Impressive
Awesome tips, bruh
Thanks for your advice
That’s what Juliana Peña did in her first fight against Nunes, head was off the centerline when she jabbed.
God damm, you are the best Gabriel thanks !!!!

Ayoooo this one’s for the short kings ahaha
When I saw the title of the video my reaction was "is it because I don't keep my mouth shut?" 😆
Im trying it today. I will let you know if I survive.
That was mind blowing.
Let my punches go
Do one on avoiding body shots (especially body kicks).

Do you train with max temmel I fought him and he fights like you I believe he's from unlimited
Vital info
As the shorter guy I also like to utilize the duck while entering, same thing just duck under the punch while throwing your own and taking space.
Thank you
