Honestly I think even when you buy your own place, I recommend not building out a closet but rather doing as you did for this particular closet. That way, in the event you want to sell your place, or you want to rearrange things, you can just take the racks and shelves out, and it's a bedroom again . At least, that's what I did. I use a spare room as a closet in our current home and it is also affordable which I bought all my racks and bookcases used for shelves and a narrow chest drawer from none other than Walmart and I spent UNDER $1,000. Instead of actually "making" the room a closet I "use it" as a closet which is the difference because nothing is built in, especially considering many people aren't interested in having an entire room just for a closet. I can just remove the racks and remove the bookcases and put a bed in there, and it's a bedroom again. Otherwise, nice closet and great wardrobe.
