- Firestar touched his muzzle to Graystripe's cheek. "But it's hard to leave."
"I miss you," Graystripe breathed. "But I'll be with you soon enough."
Fire on Fire is a MAP highlighting the relationship between Firestar and Graystripe. It takes place in an AU in which the two of them become mates during the first series, and goes through their life as they experience it.
WHAT HAPPENS? (Spoilers for the MAP!)
The MAP opens with Graypaw out on the territories at night, sent off by his mentor, Lionheart. He sees a strange orange kittypet sitting atop a fence, illuminated by fireflies.
Fast forward to after Firepaw has settled into the Clan. Together with Ravenpaw, they make a fine trio, but eventually their friend has to leave. They comfort each other in the dark and rain. Graypaw feels a crush begin to spark.
During their warrior ceremony, the newly named Graystripe watches Fireheart beam, a warrior of ThunderClan despite the odds. Though everyone is watching, Fireheart's smile is only for his friend. They stick with each other through finding WindClan and through exiling Tigerclaw's.
On a starlit night, Graystripe confesses his love. To his surprise, Fireheart reciprocates. Their love blooms and continues to grow despite Tigerstar's constant presence weighing on the back of their minds. Then, with Tigerstar dead and Scourge defeated, they finally have the chance to settle down. They ask Sandstorm to act as a surrogate mother for them, and she happily agrees. Despite not being a part of Fireheart and Graystripe's relationship, she is certainly a part of their family. Leafkit and Squirrelkit are born, and the two are overjoyed.
Then, tragedy strikes. Graystripe is taken away by twolegs on a mission to rescue his daughter. And though they're far apart, they never give up on looking for each other. Graystripe finds a friend in Millie and returns to the Clans at their new lake territories. Firestar leaps from the gathering tree to see him in an instant, and they embrace. At that moment, the world fades away, and it's only them.
Graystripe reunites with his family, now larger than before. He and Fireheart love each other season after season, through loss and betrayal, through new life and new beginnings.
The Great Battle with the Dark Forest erupts on a stormy night. The partners fight side by side, protecting each other, until it's time for Firestar to face his final foe - Tigerstar. He defeats him, but at the cost of his last life.
With his final breaths leaving him, Firestar's family gathers around to say their goodbyes. He whispers his love to Graystripe with his final breaths, then ascends to StarClan. Despite the heartache, he wears a smile so big his family can't help but smile back. He's at peace, and he'll see them again in StarClan's hunting grounds.

I don't really like the ship that much, Firestar had a loving mate his whole life and Greystripe had two. He was very much in love with Silverstream and then Millie. I know they're very close in the books but that's because they're best friends. Firestar knew Greystripe ever since he joined the clan, so ofc they'll be very close. But of course, you can ship whoever you want

In one of the books when Graystripe was in Riverclan, and Leopardstar told him to kill Firestar, but he refused, and rejoined Thunderclan, because he didn’t what to have a leader like that. But love how deep this relationship goes, it warms my heart.
It hurts my heart to think that everyone part of Greystripes younger years has died, leaving him behind.

Y'know, in the books, when the two-legs take graystripe, it was seid that firestar chased after the van until his pads where torn and bleeding from the concrete and even then sandstorm had to yell after him to stop. She convinces him against going after him a few scenes afterwards, firestar being full prepared to drop everything and go on a cross country crusade to find his best friend.
He still can't bring himself to name a new deputy, completely heart broken and unable to face the idea that the cat that's been with him sints the very start of his journey might be dead.
Although their where only ever the best of friends in cannon, I still find their bond very emotive. They truly were the original dynamic duo

It's so cool how there is a raven at the biggest turning points in both graystripes and firestar's lives. I love that this ship is a thing! (It also makes me so happy and gives me nostalgia to think that graystripe was the first ever clan cat that firestar had ever met, and his best friend!
Edit: I also think that Firestars death devastated graystripe the most. They had known each other since the beginning, and it's such an amazing ship/friendship!
It is very important to note that it is cannon that Firestars last words were ‘no homo’ which thereby negates any and all romantic themes shown in this beautiful, gorgeous MAP.
Edit: ok but all jokes aside this timeline gives us a gay couple, three badass women staying single and living their best lives AND if I got the tones correct a much more positive light on adoption and surrogate mothers than TPoT, all things the series desperately needs.
Edit 2/ I finally read the description and YES SANDSTORM IS SURROGATE MOTHER/COOL AUNT FOR THE KITS AHHHH as a baby gay this MAP makes me unreasonably happy.

What if Graystripe met Firestar in StarClan after Firestar died?
Graystripe was padding through a wood, the starlight illuminating the beautiful forest around him. He felt cats walking beside him but he didn’t know who. He kept on walking, feeling a lot younger. He knew it was a dream, but he didn’t know where he was. It was a beautiful land, clear streams and young strong trees, hills folding over the land and great mountains rising on the horizon. He sat down on a hill, under an oak, looking out at the line.
“You’ve found me,” came a voice from behind him. Graystripe turned his head around, confusion rippling under his pelt, then his breath caught in his throat.
Pelt like flame, eyes like stars, stood.. 𝙃𝙞𝙢.
“...Firestar..?”
Graystripes voice was a whisper, a whimper, a fantasy. Firestar stepped forward, pelt soaked in stars. Graystripe jumped to his paws, running towards his friend, whom he hadn’t seen in so long. He buried his head in Firestars’ shoulder, and Firestar in his.
“I’ve missed you so much, my old friend. Its just not the same without you. It’s not the same...” he felt his throat close up in emotion. Firestar looked him in the eyes, repeating what he’d said previously.
“You found me. And here we are now. You’ll be with me yet, Graystripe, but I came to see you before that. One more sunrise, one more with you. That’s all I wish before I join StarClan.” His voice cracked with emotion.
Firestar led Graystripe back to the tree on the hill, and they sat side by side. Graystripes’ heart was full of sorrow, and at the same time, love. He’d never felt more happy, sitting here, next to Firestar, looking out at the horizon.
First came the flecks of pink and orange, and suddenly the whole sky came to life, and the sun broke the peaks of the distant mountains, flooding the land in light and life. Another day.
Another day.

I love the part at 3:32-3:40 because as Graystripe cries, you can actually see Graystripe breath in an out, and you can see the shallow breaths that he takes in while sobbing. It's so smooth too.

I know this is shipping them but I love to think that this was just how incredible their bromance was. Not romantic but still the strongest bond ever seen in warriors; closer than any love, friend, or kinship could ever be
the fact that Firestar still believed that Graystripe would come back and wouldn't make a new deputy shows how much firestar had faith in him.
To me greystripe is like the ash after a fire he represents how he always calmed down firestar and firestar would never have gone anywhere with out his best friend at his side

The sun clung willingly onto the hazy sky, illuminating the forest which lay beyond it, unmoving.
Graystripe padded along the hard forest interior, his normally aching muscles now relaxed.
Was he . . . young again?
The thought just nicked his ear, having him stop before observing the trees slowly closing in on him, falling behind. Eyes widening, he started to run, questions whirling inside of his head, creating a tornado of thoughts fogging his mind as he casted out, darting for the exit to this daydream.
As he ran, one paw over another, he stopped, as the faint glare of light seemed to polish his pelt, dropping his eyes warily onto the sight which lay before him.
A slim, handsome ginger tom sat beneath the sun, the light shining with promises onto his golden-orange fur, leaving no signs of any doubt or resentment. It’s burning green eyes held tight onto Graystripe with an expression he couldn’t recognize.
Graystripe kept his gaze fixed onto the cat, his thoughts awakening once more as he held in place, stuck. His eyes held themselves wide open, transfixed all around him, paws shaking beneath the soil that seemed to fall into a perfect place beneath his pads.
“Dear friend,”
the cat said, reaching a paw slightly outwards as the toms eyes started to stare, though becoming a soft, yet tired sight that simply cured Graystripes worries.
Graystripe was breath-taken; he couldn’t believe what was going on.
Was this . . . Firestar? He pinned his ears before beginning to take a closer look, one cautious paw in front of another. His mouth opened as he lost all words, throat closed with a whirl of different emotions, as he fumbled with his misshapen words.
“F-Firestar . . i-is it . . . really you?”
He asked, body flaring in shock as he began to stand still for a moment, pausing.
He stood there, astonished, before running up to his best friend as a purr escaped his body. His eyes started to fill with water. Tears treaded lightly into his thick pelt, exchanging a glance with Firestar he couldn’t remember ever doing before. Sniffing rapidly, he and Firestar began breaking into tears once more, knowing Graystripe wouldn’t be here forever, either.
Their tails entwined together as meant to be, before Graystripe gave a soft whisper.
“I love you.” He kept silent after that, leaning meaningfully into his friends soft chest, nose pressed against him.
“I love you too, Graystripe.” Firestar gave a quick lick to his friends chest, as the sun now seemed to catch beneath the horizon, giving its last moments way for Firestar and Graystripe, the wind itself carrying the words “I love you” in its faint howl.

Honestly, this MAP was the first one to genuinely get me a bit teary eyed. I've never really thought about Fire x Gray, not in depth anyway, but this MAP is absolutely stunning, and I could feel their emotions so powerfully. Absolutely incredible work, and we love Sandstorm as always

Same here! I don’t ship firegray, but this is just too adorable to miss😍 the story fit really nicely on here, really close to canon, but you know, except the firegray being mates part. Overall it was so beautiful, I shed some tears😭

(but jokes aside I could see from a story telling perspective how Firestar could be seen as being bossy even though it was usually for the wellbeing of others and the clans in general. He did involve himself quite a bit into other clan business and help them even if they didn't want it which did backfire multiple times even with old friends from the clans like Mistystar and Onestar. Even Blackstar 😅).
Maybe Stormfur, Feathertail, Briarlight, Bumblestripe and Blossomfall could also be FireGray kits? With Silverstream and Millie being the surrogate mothers of course.

Oh my god. I was expecting a lot of things, but not this. This is beautiful, like, honestly so beautiful. I’m so proud of literally every animator that came together to work on this and turn it into such a fucking masterpiece. Even if you aren’t as involved with this ship (kinda like I am) or flat out dislike it there is no possible way to NOT give this map praise. Fantastic job everyone, I need more gay warriors maps to feed my soul and this provided that and so, so much more ♡♡
Personally I only view these two as good friends, but I still find this so adorable! Fire Star and Gray Stripe were the sweetest little friends, and this map shows that, even though intended to portray love interests instead. Definitely one of my favourite maps now ❤️

I love that this MAP is told from Graystripe's perspective. He was such a huge character in the first arc, but of course Fireheart over powered that with his main character status, so it's amazing to see a MAP told from Graystripe's perspective that Fireheart has a big role in. This MAP is so beautiful!!

I cant take it, i read the books as well and im sitting here crying while writing. At first i thought i dont know if i like it but when the end comes around and greystipe gos down to his friend.... i cant.... it hit me too hard... i need to stop now or i cant calm myself down. This video did it... it made a 21 yo m cry like a baby....
This is just my hc to how Silver fits into this. Before Fire and gray were mates Gray was unsure about his feelings for fire. Unsure if he just admired him or if he loved him. So he turned to Silverstream. Silver loved Gray but gray realized he still had feelings for fire. And couldn’t just replace him. Silver ended up pregnant and didn’t tell gray. She had the kits in riverclan and didn’t die. She went back to thunder hoping to tell the news to gray explain that he was a father and even if she knew now that she would never be hers she just wanted to let him know, but what she found was a cream tabby named Sandstorm. The two hit it off. They bonded and realized that they loved each other. Now for the Mille / grey kits that was a surrogate for firegray’s second litter. And Millie was really involved in her kits upbringing. ( this is just a hc don’t burn me over the stake for this )

so proud of you for persevering and getting the hard yakka in to get this done. it was so worth it, ive never watched a project that hit like this one. the collabs in this are testaments of what we can do when we work together and there are so many memories involved in this!! fof is such a beautiful video. everything from the script, the designs, the casting on who is in each part, you did so well. everyone put their absolute best in this. that last part is my favourite map part of all time, the movements are so heavy and real! i couldn't be prouder of everyone. look at all those gorgeous thumbnail entries. A+ work here.

I’m a Firegray shipper so of course this will make me happy but you don’t have to be a shipper to appreciate the total BEAUTY of this. Like the final product is just 100% BEAUTIFUL. This is one of my favourite maps ever now. And the desc made me tear up.

I literally cried when I saw the end, everybody did an awesome job at this!
I never really shipped the two at first but gradually as I read the books they could be far more than friends with this kind of history, the two have been together since the very beginning and the storyline of near every book he’s in just put into 4:57 minutes of animations is enough, and it felt like I was experiencing it all
Over again as I watched and felt firestars death different, but also as if for the first time. Yes I cried. But nonetheless without everything coming together like it did it wouldn’t have the impact , but on the animators part every👏single👏frame. Contained so much emotion in it and I loved it. Good job guys, seriously this is amazing💖
Thanks to this MAP that just randomly popped in my recommendations one day, Warrior cats has gained a new fan. I just ordered the first three books and cant wait to read them.

I’ve been quiet about this map for a while, but I really have to say this. This is one of the most underrated maps I’ve ever watched and it deserves so much more attention. The amount of raw effort and emotion that was put into this really makes the FireGray ship seem like it’s actually part of the books. Especially the ending. Hell, I almost shed a few tears! Great job to all the participants that worked on this! Cheers to you!
I think that firestar and sandstorms friendship to relationship was extremely rushed, and is slightly toxic. Sandstorm and dustpelt hated firestar when they were apprentices, and then for some reason, sandstorm likes him? Fire gray sounds much more reasonable, they got along great, they were best friends, firestar made him his deputy and was absolutely devastated when he didn't return
Don't really agree with Firegray but with your point of Firestars and Sandstorms toxicity in their relationship, doesn't it remind you of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's relationship at first? People say he's still toxic but I'm only on the third series, sooo..

Honestly, how do you think they were rushed? They took nearly 4 books till they bacame mates. Nothing is wrong that sandstorm ended up loving him. Graystripe is simply just a best friend! Wouldn't you find it awkward to be heavily shipped with your best friend? I am disgusted by this map. The animation was amazing, but the whole idea is straight up nasty!!!
