Yugoslavia was literally a crossroad between east and west, so there was so much great music there, from folk, rock to jazz, and the mix of all of it too. Great musicians, great voices.

@@TML0677 most of the written above are from Serbia, except Bijelo Dugme, of course all of them very good, YU grupa and EKV probably the best, at least by my taste, but if we talk about former Yugoslavia, from Slovenia to Macedonia, there was much more of great bands and musicians, in all genres. Ex YU if would be English speaking region, a lot of international awards would be taken, lot of UK charts would be taken, but english language and Slavic soul can't match perfectly at least in the terms of the deep expression. So for us who understand, it's better like this, without the international awards. 🙂

There was never any such thing as the Bosnian language per se, it may have become officially recognised and branded a standardised variety since the 1990s, but the pluricentric language was always and will always be Serbo-Croatian. this is very far from slavic ethno music....this melos comes from kosovo and is strongly influenced by turkish-albanian ethno music. If you wonder why this song is so different from the other works of the Bijelo Dugme group, you can get to know the history of the group a little better and you will see that it was a state project and the music it created served to unite already weakened sense of unity of different ethnic communities in Yugoslavia at that time....politics aside, this is one of my favorite songs, although I would never classify it as Rock. in the best case as you said, it's a etno rock....partisan rock🙂

The intellectuals of the time called them the "shepherd's rock", because they were mixing the sound of a rock and roll with what you would expect to hear shepherds would play on the mountains, anyway they were the biggest band of Yugoslavia at the time and continued to preform the biggest live concert that ever happened with just one band performing: Live at Hipodrom in 2005. in Belgrade, with more than 220k people attending, sharing the first place of the most attended concert of a single performer in the history of the world, still today yeah (they are sharing it with Vasco Rossi in Modena park in 2017. - also 220k. people attended). So it's safe to say they suggested you the biggest band that ever happened in the world at this point. It's weird to say that, knowing there are Rolling Stones still out there and The Beatles were so huge and so on, but the numbers don't lie.

No wonder he lost his voice. Besides of the smoking, drugs and alcohol he still even in his prime needed to perform on the top of his abilities to produce these insane good sounds. He could do inhumane things with that voice.
The things he did for example with "Zauvijek tvoj", "konji" and "pediculis pubis" were insanely hard to do. His songs with Milić Vukašinović were not that beautiful, but extremely hard to sing.

That intro with Balkan bagpipes and drum called Goch or Tapan(Tupan) is reprtesented in many nations in south balkan in south and east serbia, macedonia bulgaria in northern regions of greece, its old traditional folk ethnic music style of playing and its characteristic for that balkan regions, many nation claim that bagpipes came from them and its their original root, but its not proved that it comes from only one side, it may had roots in ancient greek but certanly its characteristed for hill-pasture regions of south slavic tribes and maybe vlachs from whom we may adopted that type of music. Goch or Tapan it may came with Turks.
