Yep, it is Ulli's signature. Lakewood will actually inlay anyone's signature at the 12th fret of one of their custom guitars, and it is not a very expensive addition at all. Great company, great guitars, and, as you see here, fantastic artists playing them!

according to wikipedia he prefers steel strings, since they create a more clean sound when complex rhythm figures or melodies are played.
