Hello,Bumbi, it’s mango season so Birmingham shops in UK are bursting with Alphonso mangoes at the moment. They are amazing as they have the most intense aroma and wonderful taste. They are irresistible! You have a fan in my 14 year old son so he is going to try to make this dessert at the weekend. He’s already made one of your prawn dishes at school as part of his food tech class and went very well. His teacher was very impressed. Thank you for your great videos and easy explanations as it has allowed me to share my love of cooking with my son by making some of your dishes together.

this looks great!. I am on a very low sugar diet but I found this great substitute monk fruit sweetener. it works exactly and tastes exact like sugar so I will make the caramel with this. was that extra caramel that you put on it at the end? I absolutely love mango

Hi Bumbi just loved this caramel custard. Will surely make it and give you my feedback. But I have a couple of questions to ask you, firstly can we use 4 tbsp vanilla custard powder instead of corn starch? Secondly can we steam this custard in a dhokla steamer or do we have to follow your method of steaming? If we can use the dhokla steamer, then how much time will it take to stem? ( It takes 10/15 minutes to steam idlis/ dhoklas in my steamer) Please let me know. Thank you for sharing your Kolkata mango tree photo. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful garden back home in India.🥭🥭

Though I haven’t tried this recipe with custard powder but thinking about the ingredients of vanilla custard powder, I think it should be fine. Custard powder is nothing but cornflour with some added artificial color and essence. Only one thing to keep in mind if you use vanilla custard powder is that the vanilla essence may overpower the natural mango flavor. If that’s not a big deal for you then using custard powder should be fine. Use 4 tablespoons HEAPED custard powder. 2. You can use any steamer. It does take time for this custard to set. I would say check at the 40 minute mark if it is set or not.

Yes you can. The end result won’t be that creamy and rich but it will still be delicious. Dissolve your sugar in the milk to get better results. Use 1/2 cup of sugar. Taste your custard and add more if required.
