Bro from TUKS! I'm studying Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria (TUKS). I'm a huge fan of Rimac, and to see a South African who studied at my university working there is just inspiring!
I _love_ biltong! I visited SA only once, but I fell in love with the country immediately, from vibrant Jo'burg and Capetown to vineyards and cute towns along the Garder Route. Beaches, too.
Thanks for the answers! We'll have to catch up again if you come visit SA (we can do another go-karting challenge at Menlyn/Zwartkops :D). Would be interesting to get Filip's take on what he is up to over there. I believe he is doing more on the multibody dynamics (MBD or MBS as the application said) work. Klink asof jy besig is om afrikaans te verleer daar, lol. As jy oefening nodig het kan jy met Filip praat. Hy kan verbased baie goed afrikaans praat, ek het so geleer in Japan saam hom.
Thats a Really good Question. One thing for Sure. The thermal dynamics a lot of it greatly depends on the aerodynamics and the way and how the air removes the heat. CFD computational fluid dynamics. In this case mostly Aerodynamics aspect. for Sure but there also Material Thermal Dynamics. Certain materials flex or contract or do a variety of other things under extreme temperature variations I'm sure that is also considered in the simulations. That is definitely a very good question. I'm not sure what software they use.
That's very rightly said, basics and principles are more important --- tools could be learned. I especially loved working on MSC ADAMS for multi-body dynamics, playing with parameters for tires, COG, etc to redefine the vehicle dynamics.
Question for @gerhard, What is the benchmark vehicle dynamics targets (e.g. pitch/roll gradients, ride frequency etc) you have considered before designing ? , and from which vehicle you have taken that.
I wish other companies did this, I'm about to enter my senior year for my ME degree and while I have sort of focused on a field (mechanical side of robotics) everything feel so uncertain as I haven't met a great mentor nor does my family have any related background. I know it's engineering is learning on the job but its quite unnerving to feel like you barely have any hirable skills. It's really nice and comforing to see more personal industry insight and not just PR prepared things.
Talking about CFD, How's CFD influenced in the automotive industry (specifically in Rimac) ? Can you please explain the Future of CFD in the automotive and motorsport industry?
I want to build a car and i have a sketch in mind and on paper. So how should i go next and where exactly does vehicle dynamics go. Is it at the start or is it after you have decided on all other components.
Baie geluk Gerhard! Ek is trots op jou. Wys die wêreld dat ons nie terug hoef te staan vir enige iemand in die wêreld nie. Hoop Elon Musk is 'n inspirasie vir jou!
All it takes is one EMP hit or a small accident, water, corrosion... New cars are becoming extremely complex laptops on wheels. How do you ensure they last? If I was a 1% ER Rimac buyer I'd get a Porsche Carrera GT on the side with a manual V10. Like the Rimac, it will only appreciate in value but it also has the best exhaust note of any production car.
@@Superduperloopo because the Lamborghini's super capacitor has the highest energy storage density of any known cell on Earth ×3 more. It also fully charges and discharges in 3 seconds. Charge density to weight is over nine times that of a lithium-ion battery. Lithium-ion is what is used in a Rimac Car. Batteries used in Rimac are obsolete compared to Lamborghini super capacitors. Though I don't think Lamborghini is intending to sell them to their competitors. Lol

Nice to see an South African in such a leading EV and car tech company. Rimac is the best.
Elon Musk too
Great video! I love how open Rimac about their operations.
Welcome to Croatia, hope you have a nice career and stay, smart, educated people are needed here.
I was eagerly waiting for this video on the work of Vehicle dynamics team at Rimac and more happy to see Gerhard doing this.

Wow, this was a very interesting episode. So many good questions and detailed answers!
Very informative video thanks Gerhard!
Enjoy automotive heaven..
Stuur groete vir Mate - lyk na n baie gawe CEO 😄
O ja, en groete ook vir Misha ringman Charoudin!
You are an inspiration to many. Keep up the great work. Maybe one day you may work on a South African branded vehicle. Preferably a 4x4 SUV.

How do you combine vehicle and Thermal dynamics, what software do you use
Thats a Really good Question.

I'm not sure what software they use.
Chances are its a program made by ANSYS. They have a lot of really good simulation software.
Woot woot! Thank you for this interview!
Good person, good questions, good interview, good luck to you :)

What are your suggestions about DAS (Dual Axis System)

lovely
Great video.
What major scientist do your CFD simulations base their physics on.
Newton. Einstein. Or other?
Navier-stokes equations probably. Fundamentals of fluid Dynamics.
How does a a "Computer science in App development" STUDENT enter the automotive industry, I'm currently in 2nd year
more videos please! 👋👋👋👋👍👍

Why not put brakes on motors, as they are direct drive?
Reduced unsprung mass.
How can i enjoy to Rimac?

Thx
Will Lamborghini Let Rimac use there Super Capacitor? Probably not im Guessing Lol.
Why would Rimac want that? The range would be something like 500m
