1 God is our hope and strength * a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be moved * and though the hills be carried into the midst of the sea. 3 Though the waters thereof rage and swell * and though the mountains shake at the tempest of the same. 4 The rivers of the flood thereof shall make glad the city of God * the holy place of the tabernacle of the most Highest. 5 God is in the midst of her, therefore shall she not be removed * God shall help her, and that right early. 6 The heathen make much ado, and the kingdoms are moved * but God hath shewed his voice, and the earth shall melt away. 7 The Lord of hosts is with us * the God of Jacob is our refuge. 8 O come hither, and behold the works of the Lord * what destruction he hath brought upon the earth. 9 He maketh wars to cease in all the world * he breaketh the bow, and knappeth the spear in sunder, and burneth the chariots in the fire. 10 Be still then, and know that I am God * I will be exalted among the heathen, and I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The Lord of hosts is with us * the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Now nearly 90 my heart lifts in ecstasy when I recall first chanting this as a child. It will be chanted by my Scottish Episcopal Church Choir at my funeral
God is my help and strength...sends tingles down my spine. My parents both sang in our anglican church and I can hear my praticing the bass. Thank you, Kings College- Cambridge!
To me this is the best incarnation of this Psalm and sung by King's College Cambridge is chilling. Whenever I hear it my hair stands on end. God's glory and presence is felt. Absolutely beautiful !!!
Yes. Glory of God I do Sense too.. It might be me but i also hear in the background Hebrew Singing not just in this psalm but all in this collection.. Probably me!?

Psalter Psalm 46 God is our Hope and Strength...... The Psalm song in Anglican Psalter chant had been my favorite from High School 50 years ago and remains refreshing always. A very strong prayer at all times.
An Anglican schooling as a Chorister has left an amazing personal legacy. Bless Donald Britton at MGS for his patience & his love of Choral music. This psalm an absolute standout & rarely sung in the Anglican Church these days. And if you want something really moving try 'Drop drop slow Tears by Orlando G.
@@sallysailor5642 The situation regarding the boys in the Anglican Cathedral choirs is actually not really an issue; most of the choristers are pupils in the Cathedral schools and therefore largely taught by regular teachers with all the standard safeguarding procedures in place. The issues you referred to have unfortunately been prevalent rather more elsewhere, and not just in England.

The very interesting thing about precisely pointed Anglican psalms is that such are so standard that they prove to be a salve to those within Anglicanism that are amongst the Saved !

Thank you, will fix.
Play the soprano part. It's the melody of the first phrase of A Mighty Fortress.
The tone is derived from the tune "Ein Fieste Burg" and "A Mighty Fortress" is a paraphrase of Psalm 46, so don't worry too much about it.
@@spiritdei also the canticle "we have a strong city" best chant for it.
Beautiful
Many Thanks for the Encouragement

Well said!
anyone else know the descant on the lord of hosts is with us?
I''m sorry, but those verses are in unison.
@@randyschreiner7807 yeah, we used to sing those verses unison with a descant that went (assuming we’re in D) F# A G F# / F# E D B C# D
It is such a shame that such angelic music is not enough to save this dying "church."
What a nasty and unpleasant comment attached to such beautiful words and music.
How Germanic English sounds in this chant!
