It is but forget programmes broadcast or streamed under the BBC banner ever carrying advertising. The BBC don't want to. They much prefer their funding handed to them on a plate and no government would ever allow it. Forget a subscription model too. That would also be too difficult for the BBC and, again, unacceptable to any government.
Unfortunately, the real danger we face is being taxed to pay for the BBC, the most likely form being an addition to council tax or a broadband subscription, as these would still be on a per household basis.

What's TRULY worrying is how many people are still paying for a licence that they probably don't need BUT are too scared not to.
Although the licence fee enforcement agency was set up to go house to house & SELL the licence, they have in fact become door step collector's who rely on scare tactics & employ thugs to enforce the idea that you HAVE to buy a licence JUST because you own a TV, ITV should make a public service type advert to show that this is NOT the case.
Once upon a time, when you brought a TV you had to either prove you had a TV or fill out a card to be sent to the BBC so they could sell you one.
That's where the belief that you MUST have one came from, sadly many of those like myself old enough to remember that still believe it... I stopped buying one over 10 yrs ago & haven't looked back since... Now NONE of my family buy one anymore & instead all subscribe to channels that broadcast content from around the world that they WANT to watch, none of us watch or miss watching live or catch up TV from BBC or another channel 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

So Tim Davie is saying he's open to reform of the license fee to make it more PROGRESSIVE in how it's enforced, with consideration being given to charge richer homes more. The only way they could do that is add it to council tax, which is already based on the value of your home, or take it straight out of your wages in the form of income tax. Unlike the current TV License, you wouldn't even be able to opt out if you don't watch/record/stream live TV or use BBC iPlayer. HOW THE HELL IS THAT PROGRESSIVE? That would be unfair, pure greed, and borderline criminal (extortion).

Just to have peace of mind they can't try and stitch me up as I would still be covered, they refused on the spot. So I cancelled on the spot and got my 6 months Infront back, they did try and offer just about 1 or 2 months refund but I reminded them I've never missed a payment in years and we all know it's 6 months Infront. You need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch live on streaming services - such as ITVX, Channel 4, RUclips, Amazon Prime Video, Now, Sky Go.
You don't need a TV Licence if you never watch live on any channel, pay TV service or streaming service, or use BBC iPlayer*.
This includes recording and downloading. On any device.
      Watching RUclips
You don’t need a TV Licence to watch videos or clips on demand on RUclips.
But you DO need a TV Licence if you watch TV live on RUclips. An example of this would be watching Sky News live. But it isn’t just live news or sport which needs a licence - it’s any programme which is part of a TV channel, shown or transmitted for everyone to watch at the same time.
      What is streaming?
Streaming is watching TV using the internet instead of downloading a file to your device and watching it later

    • @gmo4250
      @gmo4250 4 месяца назад

They don't have a monopoly. This is legacy legislation from the early days of TV, when ITV wanted to enter the TV market to compete against the official government broadcaster, BBC. ITV were happy to fund their activities with advertising. The TV Licence is for the privilege of receiving TV, it's not a BBC licence. OK, all the money goes to the BBC, but it is slightly different. I'm not saying I agree with it, just pointing out it's not a monopoly. I think it is long overdue a reform and over the years from just one TV channel and a couple of radio stations BBC has grown into a monster. They complain about lack of funds because successive Governments have let them expand their organisation.

  • @anonnemo2504

Forget programmes broadcast or streamed under the BBC banner ever carrying advertising.
