why? the olympic wins bring nothing to our youth development or getting our players fit for a major tournament its unnecessary and can actually result in unfair injuries that affect a players club and national team career in major tournaments
Any (new) credible int'l experienced manager would use Copa as a major tool at identifying players and tactics prior to the WC. Especially without the requirement to qualify.
realistically, copa america is a better tournament, but the olympics is viewed more by the casuals. If our goal is being good in 2026, giving a strong showing in copa america is extremely important imo
The majority of Team players in the Copa America are from the America's so it cannot be compared as grand as the FIFA World Cup; its like Premiere or UEFA. Each is segmentized but of course talented and dynamic. The Olympics is a million times more international, and as you guys said for d avg American if u take gold heck they'll really take notice. My dream would be to take #1 in more than one international soccer competition, and for that u need team depth. We getting there. Of course d organizers of Copa America won't care too much about us Americans and our future
I'd like for us to push for a medal at the Olympics. A gold medal would be incredible and would be DEFINITELY talked about. I mean, I still remember the men's curling team winning gold in 2018.
Both matter. Bring our main senior team to the Copa America. That includes guys like Reyna, Musah, Scally. You do not need any of our best over 23 players on the Olympic squad. We have plenty of depth in our U23 talent. You can bring our 5th best CB, 4th best Striker etc as our 3 over 23 players in the Olympics. Our 3 over 23 players could be Pefok or Dike at striker, it could be Luca de la Torre or Djordje Mihailovic in MF, an maybe a McKenzie, EPB, or Brooks at CB. Heck, it could be Tim Ream's swan song if he is still in form. We could put a talented U23 squad without Reyna, Musah, Scally, Dest, McKennie, Adams, or Pulisic. When Mexico won the Olympic Gold their 3 over 23 players were not world beaters. Jose Corona the Cruz Azul GK, Oribe Peralta, and Carlos Salcido. The goal should be a top 3 finish in both.
Ok I hit like so therefore Spurs BETTER win the North London Derby this weekend otherwise I'm gonna become a mega Karen and ask to speak directly to the Tactical Manager himself! And there will be hell to pay!
In my experience with AYSO, the half-session of training before the game was introduced to give the parents time to figure out how to set up the portable goals. 😂
In preparation for WC 2026, Copa America is much more important than Olympic. One of the biggest “Problem” of being the “host nation” is that they don’t play qualification, where WCQ are games that the teams play seriously. Game with true competitiveness is very different from just friendlies. In Copa America, teams play seriously. Not to mention the team in CONMEBOL is stronger than CONCACAF.
Unless/Until the Olympics and qualification for it are placed on the FIFA calendar, considering it more than friendlies is folly. And FIFA is not going to allow it to be placed on the calendar. Because they don't want the competition for the World Cup.
That’s assuming we even qualify for the 2024 Copa America - despite hosting it we don’t qualify automatically but rather have to do so through the next Nations League cycle.
The USA, technically, won BOTH the silver and bronze medals in the 1904 Olympics. Both teams were actually colleges, and was just as demos. Sadly, Canada took home the gold.
Copa America , get your strongest 11 for the copa . Then those miss the cut like Brenden Aaronson, Gio Reyna , Ricardo pepi and maybe Jesus Ferreira. It would be good good if they good the medal for the Olympics The copa will be good trial run for the World Cup . I hope they get national team coach asap no more games
Since it's mainly U-23, I don't think that we have to take Olympics seriously. Maybe it's good for looking at younger talent, but, in the bigger pic... so what? Copa is a bigger, more important tournament. Granted, Herc knows it much better than I, but I would think that Copa brings us to a better level.
I vote a strong lineup for Olympics, and as strong of a lineup for copa, we need to win the Olympics and we have a team to do it. There’s a small chance for us winning Copa, so I favor Olympics over copa
In my opinion why not both, we can send Pulisic and two others from the senior team they can be the experienced players that lead the u23's and then we can all go to Copa America i see no problem

good point about the lack of qualifiers. i think if the team doesn't play well at Copa America u gotta replace the coach, whoever it is
Both! Regardless of who’s on the field, the objective is to win. This should never be a question going forward with the USMNT.
why? the olympic wins bring nothing to our youth development or getting our players fit for a major tournament its unnecessary and can actually result in unfair injuries that affect a players club and national team career in major tournaments
Copa America. It’s better competition and the Olympics starts at the beginning of the club season for the European based players.
"don't bench my kid"
Any (new) credible int'l experienced manager would use Copa as a major tool at identifying players and tactics prior to the WC. Especially without the requirement to qualify.
realistically, copa america is a better tournament, but the olympics is viewed more by the casuals. If our goal is being good in 2026, giving a strong showing in copa america is extremely important imo
Have your best players play in the copa.
Have the B team sprinkled with few senior players join the Olympic team and give them Depth
Veterans to Copa, 18 and younger to Olympics.
Herc! Herc! Herc!
Copa no doubt. Better opponents
Yes you have to prioritize the COPA America!
I like this dude, Herc Gomez. He's so intelligent and mannered and knowledgeable..
Can the USMNT beat anyone 10-0? I would like to see that
Copa America
Ok I hit like so therefore Spurs BETTER win the North London Derby this weekend otherwise I'm gonna become a mega Karen and ask to speak directly to the Tactical Manager himself! And there will be hell to pay!
In my experience with AYSO, the half-session of training before the game was introduced to give the parents time to figure out how to set up the portable goals. 😂
Ayso is trash
In preparation for WC 2026, Copa America is much more important than Olympic. One of the biggest “Problem” of being the “host nation” is that they don’t play qualification, where WCQ are games that the teams play seriously. Game with true competitiveness is very different from just friendlies. In Copa America, teams play seriously. Not to mention the team in CONMEBOL is stronger than CONCACAF.
Olympic Team: Slonina, Dest, Che, Ream, Willey, Elderman, Alvarado, Alan Sonora, Paxten, Neri, Peredes.
We need more pan American club competitions
Top roster for Copa. Kellyn Acosta and the U20s for Olympics.
Herc needs to run US Soccer.
Copa America Team: Turner, Scally, EBP, Ricards, JoGo, McKennie, Adams, Reyna, Mendez or Zendejas, Weah with Pepi on 4-4-2
Pre-comment:
Copa=same treatment as WC
Olympic=young prospect for future WC. To build a next gen bond
Unless/Until the Olympics and qualification for it are placed on the FIFA calendar, considering it more than friendlies is folly. And FIFA is not going to allow it to be placed on the calendar. Because they don't want the competition for the World Cup.
I say us men soccer should play globally if they want to become a very elite and terrifying soccer team in the world
In 100 years there were only 8 world champions, EEUU has a longggg wayyyy to make to even match mid tear teams
@@victorfortunato they are mid
Really interesting how I heard 1 in 6 Americans have Mexican heritage, key trade partners. Kids going back and forth playing in MLS and Mexico.
@herculezg10 get Tac and Pete on a Futbol Americas collab!
That’s assuming we even qualify for the 2024 Copa America - despite hosting it we don’t qualify automatically but rather have to do so through the next Nations League cycle.
What’s herc’s big announcement? 😮
Olympics for sure. Olympics is an opportunity for young up-and-coming talent to get experience against the best up-and-comers from around the world.
We shall win both. But keep Olympics only a u-23 team. But bring all best available and forcefully too.
Obviously Copa America since the Olympics is a U23 tournament for men's football
Copa America should be all in. Play it like it's the world cup. Olympics play your best young talent
herc is the best, as a Canadian id go copa it means more
Tactical❤🇲🇾👍
This is a pretty clear decision. Copa America because Olympic soccer is pretty much irrelevant.
The USA, technically, won BOTH the silver and bronze medals in the 1904 Olympics. Both teams were actually colleges, and was just as demos. Sadly, Canada took home the gold.
The kids, including Gio, should play in the Olympics and the adults should play in the Copa America.
Hurcs kid gunna be the breakout star in the 2038 World Cup
McKennie and Juventus got a big old Spanking today..... Forza Napoli.... but like i feel bad for McKennie...
Copa America , get your strongest 11 for the copa .
Then those miss the cut like Brenden Aaronson, Gio Reyna , Ricardo pepi and maybe Jesus Ferreira.
It would be good good if they good the medal for the Olympics
The copa will be good trial run for the World Cup .
I think it’s good if they can get medal , let them get few senior team players join the b team .
I vote a strong lineup for Olympics, and as strong of a lineup for copa, we need to win the Olympics and we have a team to do it. There’s a small chance for us winning Copa, so I favor Olympics over copa
04:27 *voz do galvao CLEMEEEER CLEEEEEEEMER
In my opinion why not both, we can send Pulisic and two others from the senior team they can be the experienced players that lead the u23's and then we can all go to Copa America i see no problem
Instead of 10 mins of AYSO would had like to see who your starting 11 would be for both tournys lol
