I did the same trip, solo, in 2011. I used a 16' Pro Pioneer raft. It worked well, but the first few miles were tough!! I considered quitting but couldn't see dragging the raft back upstream to Gaedeke lake. Glad I didn't quit. Fabulous trip.
We went in early August, which was a good time. The weather wasn't so good, but that's a 50/50 thing there. Hiking terrain varies from easy to very difficult. It's handy to be good at navigation, and be prepared for bushwhacking.
If I ever want to visit a cold, wet, windy place with hordes of flies and mosquitoes and predators which might eat me then I will certainly consider Gates of the Arctic.
Great video, brave trip! I noticed the grizzly mention in the middle.. how risky is camping in grizzly country (even though you hiked an extra hour down) and lighting up a fire/cooking? Doesn't that draw bear-interest?
Very cool adventure! My wife and I are trying to visit all 59 National parks. I would be interested in communicating with you on the side about transportation you used to reach the park, costs, etc.
Oh man, this was awesome.
Thanks for keeping it real.
Cold. Rain. Skeeters.
Alaska! 😂
Great video. Nice story. Thanks for posting.

Extremely well done, spectacularly beautiful, despite stinky music except towards the end. Thank you, this is wonderful
Fantastic......
We used Alpacka Rafts. Older models from about 2010, but they worked fine, and we had no trouble. New ones are significantly improved.
A terrific trip and nice recording! Thanks for sharing.
What types of pants do you wear to walk through the river and how did you protect your bag?
This is a great video. Thanks for posting.
The music is a distraction. Natural sounds, even silence, would be a much better fit.
Click on the speaker icon and the sound will be muted.
agree, it soon gets monotonous
I would be fishing and then fishing.
Nice video but music sucks.i kept waiting for someone to start break dancing
why do so many of these You Tube documentaries play such annoying music? Stick to the masters!
