Today I make a Wago to Power Pole adapter. This adapter can be used to connect any bare wire system to a power pole.

Maybe I missed something but why did you solder a crimped connector? The crimp is more than sufficient.
I've had crimps fail. You think they are crimped when actually they are not.
Not to mention that solder on a crimp can lead to failure from strain.
Yeah OK @@MadGoat
@@MadGoatso could a crimp
I use solid 12 guage 1 1/4" long, 5/8 shrink wrap. Great to have a couple on hand.
I made a couple of these. They work great! For one of them I had two ATC fuse holders that were already on wire. I used that in between so I have a fused link. I made mine longer, but I may do a shorter one like yours to throw in my pack. Thanks for the video!
Great tip!
May I ask what width/diameter shrink wrap you used? Thanks for the video and apologies if I missed the answer
Never really understood heat shrink standards, but the stuff I used says 3/4" but if you measure across the heat shrink, it's 1 1/8" in. Hope this helps.
Thank you!
I agree with other comments; properly crimped connections *shouldn’t* need solder. But not everything goes to plan and sometimes we use cheap connectors. I would recommend applying a little liquid flux before soldering. Will make your joints flow like butter.
Yes, good point. II forgot the flux.
I standardized on 40A power poles. It just makes things easier given their open design Vs. the 30A. This is especially true for me as I tend to oversize wire for an extra safety factor. I never thought of doing this but it could be useful. Nice video.
When you go to crimp, and you are using 18awg wire, does the crimp actually secure the wire?
@@AA0Z I've not really used wire gauge that small with power poles. I'd probably pick up some 15A power poles if I was working with gauges that small. When working with stuff that small I tend to be working with connectors that I'm soldering. The 40A are more helpful when you are over-sizing wires (so harder to nicely fit in the 30As) rather than for the small gauge stuff.
Nice Kyle, thank you for sharing. Love the tutorial. I am always interested in learning something new. I do need to learn how to solder and put stuff together. I will one day put a kit together. Thank you Kyle.
You'll get there! Thanks for watching.
Red on right and facing down. I stealing that
👍
Right on red but you should read the A right side up.
Nice work Kyle! I'll have to give that a try! Thanks for the video! 73!
Thanks for watching!
I made a few after I saw the for sale, it just happened I had everything I needed on hand. These will come in handy! Thanks for the video!
Thanks!
I ordered these when i first saw them. Critical for everyday carry along with my paddle
Totally agree.
Well done Kyle, enjoyed the tutorial and video. Keep up the great work!
Awesome sauce
Dude! Thanks for the idea. I've gotta put some of these in my kit. Nice to have when you have a MacGyver situation.... seconds count, can he get power to his radio in time? Find out in the next episode of The Ham Ninja 😛😛😛
LOL!!! I think of the scene in Die Hard when the guys is cutting the pipes with a chain saw and the other guy is trying to connect the wires. If he only had one of these!!!
Also great for testing pig tail gear and not wasting crimps and housings.
Great idea. I already have everything I need, except that cool soldering stand.
Thanks
I was lazy and picked these up at Hamvention but it's great to see how I can make them on my own.
Nice. Who was selling them?
@@AA0Z they had them for sale at the POTA booth.
Handy. I should make one too!
Nice work...
Thanks for watching!
I've had one of these in my kit(even pre ham license) for years. It got me out of several binds!
All of a sudden, in the last month or two, I'm seeing these pop up on several ham tubes, why is that?
The RUclips algorithm!
Thank you for showing us how. 73 de Bill
Nice project! 73, Patrick KF4LMZ
great!
Those are dinosaur toenail clippers, not scissors
Lol!
why is there a need to solder if you've used the proper crimp/ crimp tool?
Insurance. Not all crimps work
@@AA0Z ah ok, so you wear a belt and suspenders, got it🤣
