It has been an interpretation precedent that applied to a Chinese man born in LA a century ago that has been used as a reference to extend birthright citizenship to anybody. Wong vs the US or something - google it. Interpretation can change after a century - I think Trump will get what he is after, and overseas-origin corporations will have to re-think their roles as providers of cheap labour in the US market. Keep in mind that the U.S. Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the federal government has broad and exclusive power to regulate immigration. A state or local law will be constitutionally preempted if it attempts to regulate immigration. I would say that Mr Peer is right on this one.
