Lenny's playing is terrifyingly good. Watched an old lesson on RUclips where he showed his high A 7-string. Tripped me out. Those jazz cats are on a whole other level.

thank you, these insights are very helpful. For those who are interested, Lenny Breau was writing for Guitar Player Magazine from 1981 to 1984 according to google.

David! Your vids just get better!!! Lenny was a gentle giant in the true sense ... I recall hearing his cover of Mercy Mercy Mercy ... I was stunned when he moved into flamenco style playing with complete ease... a troubled life with a tragic end, but what a singular musician and legacy body of work. Many thanks!

David - Serious props for taking on a lesson about Lenny Breau's chord playing. This could deserve a part 2 even (e.g. voice leading, chord substitutions and quartal harmony). Been a fan of Lenny since the late 1970s. Where do you start how great Lenny was.

I have a classical teacher friend that loves Lenny Breau. He turned me on to his music about 10 years ago. Super interesting, different kind of style. Sad about his tragic end. From what I’ve read, he struggled with substance abuse issues that may have contributed to an untimely death.

I’ve got a Lenny CD recorded in 1961 and guess who the rhythm section is? Rick Danko and Levon Helm! BTW, Lenny probably should’ve stayed in Canada, or anywhere else but the US, where getting murdered seems to be an occupational hazard.
