    Never planted or have eaten this type of pea. It looks more like a bean. Looks easy maybe next season once I figure out how to eat them 🤣❤️

      Let them dry out after you pick them, so they are easier to remove from the shell. Then toss them in a crockpot with onions and ham or salt pork. Mmmm.

    I like to eat these young . . . just as pods swell a little. I eat them like green beans. A friend calls them black eyed pea beans. They are a favorite. I buy a bag of black eyed peas at the grocery and plant them.

    Good video, Scott. I have sown a batch and they are all growing nicely. Will plan to sow more since I have some summer plants starting to finish up producing. Suggestion to get cheap cowpeas - if you are using it as a cover crop, go to your local Indian grocery store and buy a 5 lb bag for like $10! You have plenty to sow and plenty to eat as well. They are among the tastiest dry beans!

    Great tip to sow at night! I water in the evening instead of morning so it keeps ground wet for longer time (FL) so it makes perfect sense to me.. I'm pulling mycukes this weekend and will plant some of the black eyes from the pantry.

    Scott, I love your channel and have learned a lot from your videos. I have a problem. I planted green beans in a 3' x 4' raised bed and the package was marked bush beans. However, after watching them grow for 5 weeks, I discovered they are pole beans. How would I go about supporting the plants. They are starting to go wild and I need some advice. The square foot gardening book indicated that I could plant bush bean seeds 3" apart so that is what I did. Consequently I have a lot of plants in that bed. HELP!!

    I just planted seeds and did something I've never done before (quite literally the dumbest thing I've ever done) and that was adding a tiny bit of fertilizer on top of the soil and then watered. I planted purple hull peas btw. I very rarely use fertilizer and decided to use it this once. It was the miracle gro shake and feed. Please don't tell me I've burned my seeds?? I'm paranoid now. Help? Lol

    Why did you torch the bees first? Don't you kill off beneficial insects and bacteria that way? And my dog responds to "where's the chipmunk", my garden nemisis

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  4 года назад +3

      Torching is a very efficient way to kill of surface weeds and unsprouted weed seeds. It only effects the top half inch or so of soil. Doesn't harm the insect population.
