    I was chuckling the whole video coz you're summarising my knitting headaches 😂 also another reason for an extra stitch to happened is that the stitch's ply just started unravelling/splitting on its own mid knitting and then suddenly you (or atleast i did 🤣) gotta knit an extra stitch.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  4 года назад +3

      Yes, so true about the yarn splitting! I've come up with a couple of other reasons too, since filming this - I think another video is calling - 'why is your knitting getting wider, part 2!'
      Hope you're on track again, happy knitting!

Currently I have the movement somewhat down, but what started as a 22 has now grown into a beautiful 63.. no holes though haha. There's another potential for creating a stitch as well. On the first stitch of a row if you pull the wool to back by going 'over the top' of the needle instead of a sort of down and right direction it pulls the loop of the stitch across the needle and it looks like 2 stitches instead of 1. I know I've done that before and gained a stitch. 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️

    Thank you for this video! I am knitting a beanie, ribbed hat, with 4 mm 16 inch circular needle. I counted the stitches and found additional ones. 😂 Should I continue with k2 p2 for 11 inches high, rather than decrease the number of stitches on the row? Thank you for any help Hannah.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 месяца назад

      @@alexandracarr2537 decreasing or not will depend on how many rows you’ve done already and how many accidental ones you’ve made. The stitches are quite small so won’t notice so much, but if the k2, p2 becomes k3 or p3 in too many places it might appear awkward. What’s the stats?

  • @kristapassberger2038

    This has helped me realise where I might be going wrong and where stitches may be coming from! But how do we reverse this and get back to the number of stitches we had in the beginning? X

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  3 года назад +1

      If it’s only 1 or 2 increasing, you can do a k2tog over the next couple of rows.
      Or if it’s more you may need to take it back a few rows or unravel and start over.
      Here’s the k2tog tutorial: ruclips.net/video/78HQIS-RYE0/видео.html

      As for the scarf, I have two videos about stitches tension - tighter and looser knitting: ruclips.net/video/Y2E2xxVZaOw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/KdTChjHjkwo/видео.html hope that helps! happy knitting!

    these are very helpful. my issue is that the two needles get further and further apart while i knit, with a very long piece of yarn between the needles. it doesn't start off that way; it extends as i knit and i can't figure out why

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  Год назад

      It sounds like the stitches are too far from the tips - that can happen if the knitting needles are much thicker, due to the tips thinning earlier and causing stitches to drop from them more often. Do you feel that perhaps that might be happening?

    Im at 3x the stitches I started with before I found this video, hahaha! Is there any way to fix it? Can i start reducing the stitches somehow? Or is this project just gonna get wider the more I mess up? I'm running out of room on my needle, SOS!

      Hi Cat, if I were you I’d cast off and start over - keep this piece of knitting so you can look back and see how far you’ve come.
      You’re not the only one to have this happen, it will get easier on we time.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  Год назад +1

      That’s a whole other video. Generally, you’d need to unravel to the point that you made an extra stitch.
      As a beginner I’d not suggest that. Keep knitting and see this as a practice piece, once you see improvement and understand how the stitches are made and see fewer mistakes, cast off and start over. You’ll see that just a few inches of knitting can make a big difference.
