    Regarding the airstrike:
Actually, we did not mess up, as one of Our Viewers informed us that the restrictions for moving the marker is for the Artillery barrage and NOT the Airstrike.
    Thank you :)
(you will understand when you get there)

Pretty cool battle report. I just got my first Bolt Action army today (Japanese, as it happens), and this video gives me a good idea of how the game works, as well as the Japanese force behaves in battle. Subscribed!
Now I've got a lot of older battle reports to go through.

I hate to be the guy always pointing out mistakes, but reaction fire on close assaulters, the range is where they start at, not point blank.

1:02:43 the comment is wrong, 24" only for artillery not for air attack.(I read in book... choose any unit).

    Dear Svein, Damon and Anders,
Really liking your Bolt Action battle reports. I've watched a decent percentage of them now. I started watching Bolt Action over at The Beasts Of War.
The demo game on The Beasts of War channel is overseen by Alessio who I believe is one of the co authors of the game. ruclips.net/video/qZXabaKnarg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Pi4ARIwyzsM/видео.html There are a couple of things that happen in that game that I've never seen you use. I've never seen you play a 'down' order to remove a point of pinning. The key advantage here is that you don't need to take a pinning check in order to play a down order. The other is you can leave ambush orders on the table at the end of a turn. I apologise if you know this and haven't done these things due to tactical considerations.
I'm glad to see that Damon is a 40k fan. I'd really like to see you play a game of 40k using the Bolt Action rules for command and control. It's kind of disheartening to watch a game of 40k be over sometimes in the first or second turn simply due to turn ordering.
Also when is Anders appearing next? (Damon stop hogging the Americans)
    Regards Giles.

Giles Roberts And of course watching the next few videos I can see you've played down order and carried an ambush over to the next turn. Doh!

Definitely quite addicted to the videos and I've only got a few left to go now. :( I can't wait to see who will win WWII. No spoilers please!
Have you ever played the Sniper board game? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper!_(board_game) I used to play this when I was a kid and found the rules easy to adapt to table top war games. I thought it might be up your street as versions of it are World War II based. It's a smaller scale game than Bolt Action, probably max 3 - 4 units per side. Wounds and panic levels are recorded on an individual soldier basis. The really nice thing it had was different activation tracks for different units to reflect their training. So a highly trained unit could end up taking more moves than a poorly trained unit. The activation tracks were somewhat unpredictable so it had a similar chaos of war feel as produced by the Bolt Action order dice.
(For Damon) I used to enjoy doing further mash ups with Sniper and Warhammer 40k and having small highly trained units of Space Marines hold off hordes of badly trained Space Orks and Gretchins felt closer to the fictional description of 40k battles than the 40k rules themselves produced.
Sniper was the first war game for me that I felt made a decent effort to model the psychological aspects of warfare. I really appreciate the pinning rules in Bolt Action and this feels like a good compromise between speed of play and accurately modelling how soldiers behave on a battle field.
From reading books about warfare the only thing that games like Bolt Action and Sniper don't seem to model is command and control confusion. Units either do what your ask or nothing, apart from the occasional dreaded FUBAR of course, never really trying to achieve something that is outdated or misinterpreting orders. This seems to be a major part of most battles and seems to be as decisive as morale, training and equipment. Have you ever toyed with writing down orders for your units then making your commanders take an action to alter a unit's orders? You might need some of additional rules to allow better trained units to ignore their orders to react to local threats. The only thing that might be impossible to model on a table top war game is the commander having limited / incorrect information.
I've started reading about real world weapon characteristics and bullet physics etc and I'm wondering if you'd think there might be any legs to an idea where you're running a table top war game but having a detailed simulation carried out on an iPad or some such? I'm a programmer by trade and thought this might be fun. I'm not sure how much fun others would find it though as simple rules where you perform the calculations yourself and roll the dice definitely add something to a game.
Anyway sorry for the late night ramble and keep up the voodoo magic.

And another thing, I've never read real life battle reports involving tanks. Do they ever run away? There don't seem to be rules in Bolt Action for tanks legging it.

    • @Tabletopbattle
      @Tabletopbattle  9 лет назад

There are rules for tanks/vehicles running away yes. The Bolt Action rules are, even though they are relatively simple, very realistic because of the pinning rules...
