Nice, back in 81 I had a gt80 I forgot what year, my mother had a 78 dt125 with lights and mirrors, one Saturday my father and my uncle went to the yamaha dealer in Torrington and bought 2 mx100 one for my sister and cousin and 2 mx 175 one for my father and older cousin, our property had the powerlines going over in Watertown... we had endless riding.... I still go to this day on my 23 ktm xcw300 or my quad
My Uncle and Dad had 1978 Yamaha DT 125's. My uncle's was yellow and black, and my Dad's had a spearmint green tank, which was my favorite. I'm 51 years young, and the 1978 Yamaha DT's were the motorcycles that got me into dirtbikes, at the age of 5, in 1978.
I had the 77 DT100. Great times. Busted all the lights off. lol. Kind of turned it into an MX100. Then a friend got the YZ100 and went by me like I was standing still.
My first new bike was an 82 mx100. It was stolen 3mo after I got it. Got it back few months later. It was beat pretty hard. My first bike was a 72 gt80. Got it for 200 at local yamaha shop in 80. Both were great lil machines.
Absolutely wonderful! A good friend of mine has one. It's yellow. They are highly collectible. I would call that one. White lightning Kaplan cycles best on the East Coast. Great filming! Ronnie
great to see! mine was the 1978 GT80. basically same thing with metal fenders. was my first bike but got stolen a year later in 1980. got it with the street stuff stripped off already and knobby tires. was the perfect bike for learning to ride.
I spent many hours on that same bike! Rode the wheels off of it for years. Was actually my first “real” dirt bike fresh off the showroom floor here In upstate NY.
Love these. Great memories. I had a red 79 XL125S, my friend had a blue KE100, and my cousin had a new red 83 MX100 just like yours. That bike would smoke both of us. My friend later got a yellow MX125 and i a white 79 MX175. Rock solid bikes.
This is Sonny Seabury. I had to get a new account. This is one gorgeous vintage 2 stroke. I thought that Yamaha made their MX dirtbikes before their YZ lineup, and that the MX's became YZ's. I was obviously wrong. ML&R
A rich school mate got one of these to start schoolboy mx on in the late 70s. It seemed to be a big bike then as we mostly had Honda cubs i had a 4 speed honda ss50 which would run like a swiss watch but very slowly..Very fond memories indeed
I T-boned one of those on my Yz100. I landed on top of it and my right wrist landed on his high pipe. A big puff of smoke and I had a Pringle chip sized piece of skin hanging. Hurt so bad, still have the scar. 1980….
I had a 1980 MX 80 and I pushed that pile of shit more than I rode it and I’ve been a Honda man ever since cause I got a 1985 XR 80 after I had the MX and it was the best thing ever happened to me at that time. If you want to talk about bulletproof then the XR is #1 easily hands down no comparison what so ever

First bike I ever had 😊 crazy to see one in that condition
wanted a mX175 so badly, this is a gem
Would be a nice addition to the museum. Doesn't take up a lot of space and looks amazing!
My son rode the wheel a off his mx 100. Identical twin. We sold it back to the original owner. ❤

WOW that thing is just like my KE100.
Looks like a rotary motor as well.
🤙🍻
Kawi was rotary valve. These were reed valve or piston port. I forget which. Both cool bikes then.
Another beautiful bike Ken! Great work guys!

I hope small bore bikes become more popular
I have a 1981 mx100 white and black 🎉

I had a 1979 Mx-100.. my 1st motorcycle. sand pits, keg parties. ride it to school, yes did all that.
Brapp!
Hey I've got one of these to fix up in my garage!

I had a ‘78 and with a cone filter in place of the air box it beat a 200 twin in a drag race.
🐝🏁 Yamaha 🚀
