Used a sling against a concrete wall, it pulverized the stone. World distance record: 507 meters. Do not under estimate the sling, it's a weapon and should be treated as such. Roman surgeons had a specialized tool to extract sling bullets...
You may be interested in learning about the Balearic Slingers of the ancient western Mediterranean world. They were a mercenary force used by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Carthaginians. They were expected to sling something like 7 shots per minute up to 300 yards and to be very precise. Apparently they could sling up to half pound iron balls and different shaped rocks for different functions that could break bones and kill. They could fire twice the distance than contemporary archers of the age.
I didn’t believe how effective slings were, thinking that they were just the outdated tools of primitive barbarians, until I made one myself. When I was about 8 or 9, I had taken some shoe lace and scrap leather from our old tool shed and made a mildly passable sling out of it. My uncle, seeing what I was up to, decided to take the time to show me how to properly throw with it and how destructive the tool was as a means to get me to NOT play with it around the house. He chucked a stone about 120 feet into the air at about a 50° angle, which… didn’t impress me at all. I was skeptical at best as he was a very strong man, but when he made me do it with my meek, limp, noodle arms, that skepticism immediately melted away into sheer awe. Despite my physique, I as a young boy, was able to practically launch rocks to the canopy of the fully grown eucalyptus we had, completely changing the way I thought of myself. Within a week I was able to hit most things, and within a few months I was able accurately hit anything as if I shot the projectile with a bow. Slings are underrated
what blows my mind is that during the evolution some people spent so much time playing with ropes that we have some many mindblowing ways to tie a knot

Would it be easy to modify this to hold the ball rather than sling shot it? I always need to attach a rope to balls for my dog, and most of the ways i do it fail.
Thank you so much all the other videos i seen only had like one center line for the pouch and couldnt get a consistent throw, worked good with stones but wouldnt hug a tennis ball correctly nice video
There are two yards (6 feet) in an imperial fathom. Originally the span of a man's outstretched arms, the size of a fathom has varied slightly depending on whether it was defined as a thousandth of a nautical mile or as a multiple of the imperial yard. Formerly, the term was used for any of several units of length varying around 5-5+1⁄2 feet. Now, in all nautical references I have used, it is an accepted standard (not SI) of 6 feet. Important when the draught of my (unloaded) boat is exactly 6 feet!😄😄👍

This looks really good specifically for baseballs. I hope they someday make an extreme version of baseball where the pitcher has to pitch a ball with a sling But yeah it would be cool to use inches instead of measuring with a dollar.
@@mattyar7522 Given the fastest pitches can just break 100mph, one from a sling would be deadly without body armor! I'd imagine professionals could reach close to 200mph, basically acting as a trébuchet.

You’re better off with a leather pouch or three strand knot. Repetitive centrifugal force on that knot is a bitch. I’ve done it… nothing like getting familiar with your newly acquired extensive reach with target in sight and having it back fire on you. That knots not reliable. I’ll show you some if you want.

Seems like putting the first knot dead center wastes the string you have to cut off and melt the end of. Untying the sling and measuring the eccentricity would give you the right amount of overhang.
Great tutorial. Thank you. I enjoyed the Shepard’s sling. But the reference knot isn’t a bowline (incidentally , it’s correctly pronounced bow-lean, as in ‘bow’ tie and ‘lean’ over). If it loosens, it could easily spill and reform as a slip knot! Most definitely not something you want from a bowline.👍
that's because it's not, zed is british in origin. In fact the usa is pretty much the only country in the english speaking world that does not pronounce it as zed.
Sounds like grandpa isn’t impressed with our showman’s career choice. 😂

It appears that you use a dollar bill as a gauge for a baseball. What's a good gauge for making this for golf balls?
You can also use a dollar bill, just fold it in half long ways.
