- In this session, Haruko Kawano and Jeronimo Ezquer share their experiences collaborating with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to promote vegan catering. Their efforts have led to the creation of high-quality educational materials and events for food professionals, showcasing how local governments can play a crucial role in expanding plant-based options.
Udit Raj Sharma’s research explores the need to recognize animals as victims within criminal justice. He addresses the challenges animals face in being acknowledged as crime victims due to speciesism and legal limitations. By examining restorative justice, alternative sentencing, and the role of empathy, Sharma advocates for reforms that position animals meaningfully within victimology.
Together, these presentations demonstrate how government support and legal reforms can drive significant progress in advancing both plant-based living and animal welfare.

AFAD 2024 is co-organized by Asia for Animals (AfA) Farm Animal Coalition and the Animal & Vegan Advocacy (AVA) International.
