A friend is doing a guest spot on a radio show focusing on train related songs. This is the first song I thought of. Did a quick search and here it is. Hadn't heard it for 20 odd years and here it is. Magic...
This is an interesting cover of the Kinks' 1968 original. Great voice, with a touch of the P.J. Proby quality about it. The backing is what lets down what would otherwise be a stunning cover, because it is not varied enough, just a continued repetition of the same riff all the way through. I would like to hear more covers of Kinks' songs by this singer though, he could be onto something.
Truly splendid and it's Ed Kuepper's right from the first chord and note ☆☆☆☆☆
Ed did a solo version, too. Both are in my Kinks playlist.
Finally, I have been searching for this version for nearly 10 years. Thank you!

What an awesome song and voice.👍
Brilliant track from a long time back, still sounding as good when released
Omg memories of triple J
Have not heard this for years, wonderful stuff.
Brilliance
I read this was a Dave Edmonds song, from The kinks? Ed does a great cover of it
"Σάββατο βράδυ στο χωριό.Το τραίνο κι ο μαβής καπνός του.
Κι ο μόνος επιβάτης."
********************** Καλό ξημέρωμα Μαρία.!!
Kαλημέρα Θανάση.
Ωραίο τραγούδι...
Great song. JJJ unplugged from memory ?
Where can I get a copy of the album? - there is a live Tiddas track I have been looking for for years...
Did you find it ? I could get it to you somehow if not.
Still not found it.
Spirit of the Winter Trees?
It appeared on the following album: www.discogs.com/Various-Totally-Wireless-The-Triple-J-Acoustic-Sessions/release/8657041

I always assumed the repetition was completely intentional and used to simulate a good old fashioned steam train
He could be onto something, I agree. That's probably why he's been a professional musician and recording artist for the last 46 years.
