Sliding lets you move pieces into line with each other so they destroy each other correctly. You can go across the surface and down into deeper layers. You can move pieces into open spaces, and pull them up a layer sometimes so that they're on top of another piece they were next to before.
I haven't finished the video yet, but I'm hoping you realized at least after the video that you can see. The shadow changes colour when your piece is able to be dropped correctly to avoid your failures. Also, the a circular shadow piece is just showing the rotating. Types of pieces. It's not waiting for you to select which one's going to drop It is just a b all end all piece
my friend how many times do you have to take damage before you realize you should only drop a block when it lights up, im 8:21 in lol also i think you can drag pieces by holding B if i remember right to set up more combos
My past with this game is screaming: you can slide pieces and break the little purple bits too!

The highlighted blocks are either legal plays or loose pieces that can be slid, I can't remember exactly which.
