After four years of building my blog, I've done some things I would definitely recommend but also some things that I think to myself "Why did I do that!!" 😖 the good thing is is I made these mistakes so you don't have to ;)
I'm sharing a few blogging mistakes for beginners to avoid and some blogging tips that I would recommend instead. I definitely want to follow up on this topic next year because we're still learning and making mistakes daily lol. Hope you enjoy!!

If you change the camera settings to f4 or higher you'll have a greater depth of field so your face is more likely to stay in focus even if auto-focus is off :)
One of the first things to do after creating your blog is to create all the social media accounts. You don't have to post/use them yet, but you want to claim your blog/company name on them. When adding your website url this gives you links, these are also viewed as trust signals. Google knows any legit website will have socail media acounts, plus they're free.

When I am struggling with my blog, I try to go back to the mindset I had when I was starting it. Things like watching RUclips Videos, reading, planning, and that kind of thing. It's a long haul, but definitely pays off!

Sophie’s blogging course is literal gold. I just recently took it and the Pinterest course and I finally feel like I have direction for my blog and I’ve been on and off for the last year. I truly would have paid double or tripe the amount for that much information! 10/10 recommend!

I just finished the blogging course for the first time, I plan to watch it two more times, and it was excellent. It helps you wrap your head around the concept of blogging. Highly recommend it.

I’m in a completely different industry (health/wellness) but find it more helpful to learn from you than someone in my industry. My question for you has to do with my age - I’m a lot older than you. Love the video!!! Certainly personally have made some of those mistakes with my business, you learn from your mistakes though. One question I do have is I want to introduce a blog and already have a number of posts written ready to get started. My question is around domain names/business names. You see the blog will focus on my own journey of improvement and the things that I use and try to improve, are the products that my business sells, these include both physical and digital products.
Should I use my current business name for the blog or make it a bit more unique and geared specifically towards my journey, but will drive traffic to my main business products? I use funnels to sell my products mainly.

Federal taxes are the same for any state. Legally, you have to pay taxes on any income you make from your business. The $600 is the requirement for a payer to submit a 1099 form. So, the idea is that the IRS would probably not know about the income under $600, but legally you should be paying this....

Hiii. Do you have a website where we can look for some information. I am struggling with the photo end. Not sure where to get photos without having to become a photographer. Not to mention the logistics of getting interior photos of homes with the items u want to blog about. So discouraging. I wish there was some clear info on the photo end.

Thanks for all these tips! I've been watching your videos for a month or two now and have one question I would LOVE answered.. When you're just starting out, do you recommend posting some blogs first and then learning about Pinterest & SEO strategy? OR, do you recommend learning Pinterest and SEO strategy BEFORE you write your first blog posts and begin publishing them on your site?
I would learn the basics of SEO first! Don't bog yourself down in it or get overwhelmed because there is a LOT of info out there, but just take a couple days to learn basic keyword research and how to write a decent blog post title/headline.
Hi Sophia, I really want to start a blog but feel most of the niches I'm passionate about are over saturated. I have experience in health specifically strength training, personal finance tips for woman in their 20s, traveling on a budget, and maintaining health romantic relationships. To avoid the "broad lifestyle blog" no no a lot of creators warn against, I was thinking of developing a blog that is generally about how 20-something women can "level up" their lives and build the future of their dreams. This would give me the freedom to write about my aforementioned passions, and perhaps test out different types of content before niching down further. Is this a good strategy or do I need to niche down before starting the blog? Thanks!

Why you don't have the option to pay via PayPal in your blog? I was about to purchase the discounted download info and feel much better through PayPal plus don't have the time or desire to be inputting my credit card numbers now.

Her course mostly goes over how to get people to see your posts! She doesn’t cover the tech stuff because you can find all of that fit free on RUclips which is what I did when I started, and I’m not tech savvy at all! 😂
Just wanted to chime in as someone who works in tech - WordPress is definitely the way to go for a blog! The advice Sophia gives about using WordPress, choosing a theme, etc in her other videos is spot on! :)

I have had to send a few cease and desist orders. When your photos and words are being copied, you know you are doing something right. - About 85% of my traffic is female, so I thought Pinterest would be a good source, but I only get about 5% of my traffic from them. I am thinking of trying TicToc. About taxes, I just want to clarify that when first starting out, if your revenue was equal or lower than your net income, they you usually don't need to pay taxes. For example, if your business had $5000 in revenue, but you had $5,100 in expenses, which means your net income was $-100, then you usually don't owe taxes. I am not a tax expert so don't hold me on that, but that is usually how it works.

So when posting a blog for the first few times. If it's just to teach google what your blog is on. Then do we need to have a good amount of quality in the blog or just stuff it with Keywords so Google crawls your blog to get that ranking more quickly?

Google crawlers are pretty smart. They'll know if it's a quality content or just stuffed with keywords. It's strongly advised not to stuff your blogs or any web pages with keywords cause it will significantly reduce your chance of ranking on the first page

b) my community has a way of going down the rabbit hole with me when they find me
and c) my teaching systems and products nestle nicely into each other, and work to cross-promote each other.
Is a blog a useful tool to bring people to this kind of endeavour? And if so, why?

This has been my hang up too! Im planning on doing home decor organization etc but obviously I dont have ALL of the things decor or organization in my home. Where are people getting these photos?
