This is an amazing video. I am so happy to see a black man doing this kind of video. I literally searched "Black Minimalist", so that I can relate because I watch a lot of only white minimalists. Keep it up!
I recently wrote a couple blog posts about minimalism. I’m still working on minimizing my wardrobe but I usually on shop based on occasions and I keep neutral colors. I donate ANYTHING I don’t use or wear for over 6 months.
This takes a lot of discipline never live above your means. Secondly don’t overspend on unnecessary stuff. We must get into the habit of saving anything can happen and you want to be prepared for when something happens.
Black minimalist groups online and Facebook are a god sent. I need to get back to decluttering again. Thanks Corey, I feel like we are so use to living in scarcity, we are drowning in our stuff.
My Gurl Tiffany The Budgetnista Aliche has a philosophy... Need It>Love It>Like It>Want It. Needs and Loves come before Likes and Wants. Always ask yourself when making decisions
Yes another Black Minimalist! Its about efficiency and intentional living. Eliminating decision fatigue and reassigning your resources ( time and money) to goals that are more meaningful. Minimalism is the antidote to consumerism. Freeing up your finances is the first step to stealth wealth. Love the content!
Great video! I think you made a great point with it comes to minimalism in the black community a lot of people don’t know what it means and I have been into minimalism and simple living for a while now and I love to see more black people getting into minimalism because can be very beneficial in every aspect of life.
Thank You for the encouragement. I am slowly working on removing things I don't want or need.I have donated several bags of clothes shoes and other things.I still have some more to go but it do feel good to remove excess stuff.😀
You totally preaching lol i pray this reaches the right people who struggle with decision making from trauma and bullying or people with mental illnesses and mood disorders. I know first hand its so hard to even get dressed. Minimalism is the perfect soultion. More time reading and practicing self care not scrolling online stores or going on shopping sprees. Save money and energy, mentally and physically. God bless you!!
Great content Corey! I was inspired to become more of a minimalist after reading about Fumio Sasaki. During this pandemic, I was forced to take a closer look at life and I realize that the time is now. I have begun simplifying my life and I’m in phase 1-2 of decluttering...it feels amazing! Keep the content coming 💙
Thank you so much for this !! I definitely don’t see many of our ppl on this topic . I’ve recently started my minimalism journey and I feel great already! I’ll be uploading my take on minimalism soon🧚🏾♀️
I’m not a minimalist, but I love decluttering and being intentional about what I buy (when I do shop) especially clothing. I can attest to gravitating to certain items and being specific when buying items that are easily interchangeable and dressed up or down.
These are the gems we need man. I think we all acquire stuff just to keep up with the rest. Im only getting things the increase my daily output w/ less thinking involved. SALUTE ! Got my subscribe 💯💪🏾
Yes brother you are so correct. I started minimalizing my life before this episode and I am feeling so much better. I realize during the COVID-19 shutdown I was able to do without alot more than I thought I could.
I had loads of business and casual clothes and shoes that I didn't really wear anymore, including tailored suits and shirts that had never been worn... but now that I have retired early and relocated to London, England, I mainly wear jackets, jeans, v-necks and leisure wear --- so last year I started donating clothes to a charity in Tema, Ghana called "Future Stars". Happy to know the clothes help them raise funds to support the educational and recreational activities for hundreds of Ghanaian children.
Thank you one of the best videos I've seen on minimalism. i think I enjoyed it more because it was from a males point of view.society has taught women that we need a lot of stuff
Thank you so much for helping me to detox my life since covid i have been processing how to simplify my life. You just confirm what i need to do to see progress.
I am a minimalist and did not know it. I have given away everything, and only kept a few items. The feeling that I get whenever I do that is a feeling of relief, a feeling of being free! I feel like I am starting a new life, and that my life is about to take on a new mission. I don't throw the items away, I give them to Goodwill, or give them to family or neighbors. I learned through studying metaphysics that everything has life. A speck of dust has life, a tiny seed has life. When you own a lot of "stuff", you have surrounded yourself with a lot of life! Since it is life, you can become emotionally attached to those items. In fact, those items don't want you to get rid of them, they are enjoying your life! An example is when you go grocery shopping. I was once told not to go grocery shopping hungry. I now know why. When you are hungry, those millions of items in the grocery store are sending signals to your stomach to pick them! You then start buying more groceries than you had intended to buy!
Thanks brother for this video. I am in the process of moving out of my apartment. This is a perfect time for me to get rid of things that I haven't touched in years. I am selling a lot of stuff and donating the rest. My goal is to create a minimal space and try to live with less. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy New Year!
I live just like you brother. Even though I can afford luxury I chose not to because I play cheap and I don’t feel it’s necessary to go over board. Just stacking those bills for hard times.
Corey Jones Thanks! You have really grown over the years. I was watching some of your videos from like three years ago you was talking about your second step show. Do you ever do like self assessment of where you was then to now and possibly recycle content?
I recently decided to reduce the amount of things within my life, so I decided to view some EDC/Minimalist content here on RUclips to gain advice as to how I can effectively begin my process. I viewed some thorough content from guys that have embraced the lifestyle, however, I specifically searched for a black male that has incorporated the minimalist lifestyle, your content was the first video available so I viewed your joint and I’m now a new subscriber. It’s encouraging to listen to you emphasize how within our black community we’re prone to over consumption, we indulge in gross materialism, and shame others within our own community into socially accepted styles, trends, and brand loyalty. I too wanted the PS5 and could have preordered it and be playing it right now, however, my PS4 pro is still a beast and I’m still trying to finish Red Dead Redemption 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, MK 11, and more. I just couldn’t justify to myself making that console purchase. Props to you for sharing advice as well as representing the black minimalist lifestyle perspective.
Definitely, a tough motto to live by, but your advice is promising! Maybe one day I can get to your level lol, but for now, gradual steps! Keep up the great content!
Dope video! I too have been trying to share this with my black people because it’s not something you hear in our community especially with young people.I pray the journey is going well with you and you inspired me to look into doing this myself on RUclips, I like gadgets but outside of that I want to minimize as well and I am trying to show my wife and others , that this is for us too! 🙏🏿🙌🏿😠
After watching this vid, I learn a few things. Now that 2021 is here, I’m gonna do things differently. People who live minimalist, will be much happier and appreciate life more. You will be less stress and don’t have to impress others by feeling pressure to have the latest. A lot of people buy expensive things to feel appreciated or to fit in within their circle. Then when they don’t have it, those same people they tried to impress go away from them. Not a good feeling I guess.
I love the lifestyle. I realized about two years ago that it's better to indulge in a few things that make me money vs a lot of things that do not. I put my Jaguar XJL up for sale & I started investing in trucking as a nurse practitioner. I own property now too. Best decision I ever made!
Honestly bro I see the minimalism journey. For me it’s not about having nothing. It’s about using what you have and not having stuff sitting around the house that you are t using
I would like to say Thank You. I am not good at explaining to people why things can be a lifestyle and a trend. This is definitely a thing needed to be established in black lifestyles/ communities. In my opinion it is started out this way, but being poor makes all minorities feel the opposite. So again thank you to fully and cleanly state why this should be a thing to not compete with a life that can be fun and get you and future generations in a better life of they own because of practicing good minimalist actions.
Great video Cory! Try to keep it as simple as possible. I use to think I had to have whatever was outt new : shoes, clothes gadgets etc. I had so much stuff it was ridiculous. When I decided to scale down , and saw clothes that still had tags on them in the closet I knew then besides the fact I had too much stuff, I was spending wayyy too much money. Had to check myself and rethink some things. Now, minimalist living is great once I got used to it and I'm able to save much more money for the future.
im a dude in college and just over the past few months I've been realizing how _wasteful_ it is to spend money on stuff that u dont even _use_ , as well as letting the stuff _itself_ just _sit_ there for literal months and years on end without being touched lol. I started my mega decluttering session a few days ago and girl when I tell u the sheer amount of _stuff_ I found in my bottom drawers, on the highest shelves, in the darkest crevasses and nooks and crannies that I had from years ago, put somewhere, and completely forgot about. its scary
Want to be a minimalist and needed to hear from someone from our community. Thanks! Helped speak to issues race’s dont fully get. Our culture finds so much value in what we buy and wear. So it can be a bit harder.
I'm in one bedroom apartment I have been struggling to keep a retuine after 4 days at work it feels like struggle on my days to get the chores done ✅ to much clothing books knick-knacks
I probably should do somethin similar now that I've lost a ton of weight. A bunch of my stuff doesn't really fit right anymore. I tend to enjoy being a magpie with trinkets and stuff tho - you can pry those from my cold, dead hands
Great Content✊ I am on this journey too along with the F.I.R.E journey ! HAPPY to know more people especially minorities are waking up to this lifestyle ! The time of (keeping up with the Jones') is OVER . Time to be wise and live a MORE ABUNDANT lifestyle with less ! 🙏👏✨
I love your content. I would encourage you to release the term "minority " as a descriptor of a culture of people who have made extraordinary strides under horrific conditions. It is a term that was forced on to us and we don't need to continue to embrace it. Minority suggests that we are less than and that's simply not true. Consider using the black community instead. 😊
Thanks for the video bro, Love your lifestyle and you've just earned by subscription I am ready to receive all that we want to give out😀😀 not just your advise lol I can forward my address right away

Yup, I am happy too. I searched the exact same keywords.
Same here that's exactly what I typed because scrolling forever searching for someone that looks like you was getting old
I recently wrote a couple blog posts about minimalism. I’m still working on minimizing my wardrobe but I usually on shop based on occasions and I keep neutral colors. I donate ANYTHING I don’t use or wear for over 6 months.
Ayyeee! Sounds like you’re on it. Send me the link to the blog post 💯

This is true!
Glad I found your channel!
I started a couple years ago. Best decision I made coming out of college.
Black minimalist groups online and Facebook are a god sent. I need to get back to decluttering again. Thanks Corey, I feel like we are so use to living in scarcity, we are drowning in our stuff.
That’s the word for it “Scarcity”. Great way to put it

I started decluttering my closet and it just feels so good! I walk into my closet and dont think about what to wear. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Ayyeee! That’s what’s up

Dope! I’ll have to follow your journey too 💯
Great content. Happy to see more black men & women in this minimalism space on YT!
Thank you! 💯
So happy I found you! I often feel like mainstream minimalism excludes people of color and you touched on that in this video
Thank you! That’s definitely true. I’m hoping that changes. I’d like to see more people of color embracing the lifestyle

Good stuff man. “Minimalism” documentary on Netflix inspired me to live more simply.
Thanks man! I still need to watch it!
I definitely need to get re-motivated, especially with this big move I have coming up. Great video!

Thanks Corey.
Love this! I’ve been practicing minimalism since this summer started, but it’s still a work in progress. I’m proud to watch you through your journey!
Thank you! And it’s definitely not an overnight journey

Corey Jones Thanks! You have really grown over the years. I was watching some of your videos from like three years ago you was talking about your second step show. Do you ever do like self assessment of where you was then to now and possibly recycle content?
I have! And I haven’t really done a thorough self assessment just yet. I’m adding it to my list

Adapting to Minimalism is easier if you grew up poor. You are used to having less.
But I need this.

Hey Cory, San Francisco here.
Idk how I just now found this considering I’ve been looking for something like this since the spring but I’m gonna check out your other stuff
Thank you! For stopping by and checking out my content
I just got introduced to this through Anthony O'Neal's RUclips channel about a month ago

Want to be a minimalist and needed to hear from someone from our community. Thanks! Helped speak to issues race’s dont fully get. Our culture finds so much value in what we buy and wear. So it can be a bit harder.
A lot harder! Thanks for watching
I'm in one bedroom apartment I have been struggling to keep a retuine after 4 days at work it feels like struggle on my days to get the chores done ✅ to much clothing books knick-knacks
I am starting to become a minimalist. How do you part with ancestors belongings they left behind?
I probably should do somethin similar now that I've lost a ton of weight. A bunch of my stuff doesn't really fit right anymore. I tend to enjoy being a magpie with trinkets and stuff tho - you can pry those from my cold, dead hands
Sounds like you have some things to get rid of 👏🏾
This is great! Most other minimalist videos are made by pretentious dbags. Finally someone being real. Keep up the good work.
Did you end up getting your sense of smell and taste back completely? I’m currently experiencing the same after a month and a half.
Yep! All back
Great Content✊ I am on this journey too along with the F.I.R.E journey ! HAPPY to know more people especially minorities are waking up to this lifestyle ! The time of (keeping up with the Jones') is OVER . Time to be wise and live a MORE ABUNDANT lifestyle with less ! 🙏👏✨

How you throw your paraphernalia away though?
It was in the pile “to get rid of” meaning repurpose lol. I gave it away to some brothers

Trying to give up all my clutter!!! Hard! I. Watch more than act on it!!!
It takes some time but you got it !

Peace God! Dope content, looking into minimalism myself, thank you for these tips! Bless! 🙌🏽
No problem!
Why don’t your look into the kon Marie method and u should make a video of your process throwing stuff out, reorganizing there are lots of women who make videos like that but little if any men so I think that would be nice to see!
Coming next Tuesday
Thanks Corey.
