Great video! I love that you include your kids in the adventures. As a Dad, it’s nice to see other Dad’s getting their kids outdoors on micro adventures. I’ve subscribed. Thanks.
Man it’s cool to see someone posting off-roading in NC that isn’t Uwharrie OHV or private property. I’ve had a blast in Uwharrie over the years with my Jeep but now that I’m in a 1st get xterra I’ve been looking for fun camping sites/off roading places that I don’t have to worry about breaking things or I don’t need a big lift and 35s to travel safely. I’m making a “to do list” based on your videos. Thank you!
Great video with some excellent driving trails. There is a wealth of exploration to be done in this area, looking forward to getting back out there. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos.
I did an overnighter at an awesome spot on 105 a month ago. I had been wanting to do that for a long time. I need to explore those other roads you were showing. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks so much for this. We did the drive north to south today and even hiked down to the dinosaur cave. The north end of the road is certainly much smoother than the southern half, but coming out at Lake James was a great finish to the day. I’d love to come back with the Tacoma, we did it in the Ram 2500 with 90 psi in the tires. Not the most comfortable ride.
Apologies for being a pronunciation policeman but it's "PI-nola" (or "pine-ola". : ) I'm a local. Agreed with the post about you being a super dad for sharing with your kids.
Awesome, thanks for sharing! Bahama, Carolla, Kure Beach... you just can't know how these names are pronounced unless a local is kind enough to share. PI-nola it is! Thanks for following man!
Very cool... I'd like to live closer, to where I could be in the mountains more often. I'm glad to hear you are taking full advantage and exploring as much as you are!
@@jbd202 My father in law got the Smittybilt and he is very happy with it. Half the price of most of the options out there and the quality is nearly identical.
Who frickin cares?! Roof top tent dweebs. What a waste of$$$. Bet ya just can't do without a skootle too. Eastern U.S. sucks@@mountainstoseaoverland9855
Such a beautiful scenery. One day hopefully we will make it to the highway 105 and explore dinosaur cave. And rock climbing for sure !! Great video. 😉 Thanks
Is this NC 105 or Forest Road 105 and does it have an alternate name? Never mind. This is old NC 105 / Forest Road or NC 1238 North of Lake James on Hwy 126.
You were lucky to hit Craig Creek Rd when you did, not long after you were there it got severely washed out during a 500 year storm, taking out a bridge. The lower portion of the road before you begin your ascent is basically a creek now. They put gates on both ends of the road and I don't know that they will ever fix and reopen it. I'm a mountain biker so I still use it all the time and honestly don't mind it being abandoned....but sucks for overlanders (and lazy mountain bikers that want to shuttle).
Thanks for the video, hwy 105 was great. Couldn’t believe some of the great camping spots (best views were taken). We didn’t camp but was still cool to see campers. I must be very conservative when it comes to what a car can handle as saw many 2 wheel cars out there. I was worried about my truck in some areas.
Excellent! I can't tell you how many times I have been rolling along on back roads in 4WD feeling manly and tough, and then a Honda Accord passes going the other way and they seem to be doing fine with 2WD and 4 inches of clearance. Kind of puts things in perspective and it's helped to slow me down from making many changes so far to my 4Runner's height.
Do you have a centralized website you go to find all of your trips or just word of mouth. Maybe I’m looking up the wrong stuff in VA. I dunno. You should totally map out all you adventures on a forum or something. Either way. Looks like an awesome time.
They blocked off Craig Creek Rd just after the camping spots near Brown Mtn Beach Rd. I don’t know why. You have to come from 181 now and can’t get to Wilson’s Creek from Craig Creek anymore. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how terrible that is.
Great video, 105 is definitely on my list now. Just curious, do you know any general rules or regulations for camping on 105? it looked like you just pulled over in a spot that had room to leave the road clear and I have read there are pull over spots to camp further up the road. Just looking for some tips to plan a trip. thanks!
Hello! Just now seeing this video over a year later! We are planning a first time trip for tent camping in September and would love that EXACT spot that you are at in the beginning of this video. I know we will be super lost and I can’t find this spot on a map. Do you have a close address or a way to find this spot for somewhere who’s never been through the area?? Thanks!!
No not yet. Hopefully this spring! I'd like to explore a lot more in that area. Enjoy the weekend! It's just cooling down now for some nice camping weather. I can't wait to get back out there!
I don't. In my experience those end up being kind of a time drain since I started out on them with good intentions of focusing on creating content, but I end up spending far too much time consuming content. So I've decided to keep things simple and just stick with RUclips. I've never been to the North Core Banks... we have been many times to South Core, and we have some spots we really enjoy, so we just keep going back. It would be great running into you out there!

Awesome man, thanks for following along! That's the goal!
I enjoy taking a ride across Old NC105 every now and then. Enjoyed watching your video! Liked and subbed!
Awesome, thank you!

Best dad of the year award.
It's a lot of fun taking them back to see the spots I have enjoyed growing up :)

Nice video! Taking my Frontier 4x4 there next week!
Nice video! We run 105 a lot (almost 3-4 times a month) going to check out beech mtn road soon!

That whole area is great for exploring. What kind of tent are you getting?

The wilson creek area is my hang out and base camp area. Bruce at betsys is a trip ! Brown mountain rd has been over run in the past 10 years 😑
Yeah Brown Mountain Road was literally non stop roadside campers for it's whole length. Remote, but definitely a well beaten path.

Hi Andrew - there are lots of pull over spots for camping in 105. Some small and others that would take multiple vehicles.
Today, is that 1238?

I was born and raised in Marion. We used to go up on 105 when we were bored and hang out, I live in Burke county now, even closer to 105 lol
