Cora supporting the servants feeding the soldiers and immediately sacking Nanny West after hearing her be cruel to Sybil and Tom’s daughter are her two greatest moments on the show.
"You're going to let them get away with it?" "Oh more than that, I'm going to help them and so are you." If only she knew how much O'Brien deserves that smackdown.
Spirit is all well, but her fortune…and it was a huge one was necessary to Robert. A point of comparison, Consuelo Vanderbilt, and of course, she was one of the richest (even among the rich girls of the era) but her fortune was around $2M during the latter 19th century…which makes it maybe 10 times more now. Cora may not have had the same fortune but certainly close. She talked about her family’s status with Bricker.
@@marinazagrai1623More like "100 times more", or close to it, actually. Inflation and the ravages of a fiat currency, are an awful thing. I so wish they did a prequel to Downton Abbey from the Edwardian era when Robert was a young man looking for a wife and Lady Violet was the reigning Countess Grantham. I wonder if the Levinsons came to Europe and took part in the London season, or if Robert sent to America by his parents to find a wealthy wife. I hope they find some formidable ladies to fill the roles of the younger Mrs Levinson and then Countess Violet Grantham. The first encounters must have been legendary! Not forgetting Carson's beginnings as a footman under a strict senior butler or Mrs. Hughes and Patmore's early years as house and kitchen maids. Or O´Brien as a young chambermaid - eek!
"If you can honestly say you have never let a flirtation get out of hand since we married. If you have never given a woman the wrong impression then by all means stay away. Otherwise, I expect you back in my room tonight." There was no room for debate in that.
One of my favorite Cora moments, this one where she tells off the Nanny, and when she says, to O'Brian, I'm going to help and so are you. I was always proud of Cora. She's American!!
When Cora tells Robert by all means stay in the other bedroom if he hadn’t let a flirtation get out of hand reminds me of the Bible scripture, “Those without sin cast the first stone.” 😊
3:40 EXCUSE ME?!? He actually did what he accused Cora of doing and MUCH more with Jane! Cora enjoyed Bricker’s company; THAT’S IT. Robert wanted to enjoy something else and if I recall correctly “with every fiber” of his being. But he gets mad because another man cherishes and RESPECTS his wife when he wouldn’t? Why do men have cognitive dissonance when it comes to this kind of stuff? Yes I’m BIG mad and triggered. 😂 THEN HE BLEW HER MONEY!!!! Guhl I’m SUPER mad now!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee. Where is Cora’s scene calling Isobel’s bluff about leaving the Downton convalescent center? One of the best Cora moments ever.
Robert upset that Ethel had a illegitimate child when most men in his position probably fathered many illegitimate children and didn’t claim them as their children.
Because he knew the rules were different for girls, and having a child out of wedlock could jeopardise his precious daughter’s future. Luckily it all turned out for the better, both in the story and in history.
Which is very wrong- who represents this elitist and classist thinking more than nobility. They are the reason for how nanny West saw the world. Not defending her being malicious towards innocent children though.
Please do a Compilation of mrs patmore‘s funny remarks. Her wit makes me laugh almost every time she speaks - she‘s really the downstairs-violet-pendant
The soup kitchen scene moves me so much ❤️❤️❤️. Cora doesn’t overreact first - she calmly gets facts and makes decisions. Mary must have gotten all her business sense from Cora; certainly not Robert. I just realized all the daughters are Jewish, through their mother, although they practice Christianity and no doubt were baptized into the Episcopal church.
No they’re not Jewish because Cora’s not a Jewish. Judaism is passed matrilineally (through your mother) and Cora’s mom, Mrs. Levinson, was not Jewish. In one of the S5 episodes Lord Sinderby asked if Cora’s mom converted when she married Cora’s dad and she said her mom didn’t. So neither of them are Jewish and neither are the Crawley girls.
@@alberttsai8832 ofcourse the Crawley girls were not jewish. They were the daughters of an earl. That would be unacceptable. He would have looked further rather than having jewish daughters.
@@audreykennedy90That might be news to the Jewish daughters of Lord Rothschild, whose baronetcy dates back to 1847, and whose Judaism far predates that by centuries.

Cora's even more beautiful when she's dressed as herself. But perhaps Elisabeth is somewhat like Cora in her personal life, or perhaps not? either way Julian fellows made a brilliant decision on hiring her to play Cora.
I finally understand that she was actually referring to the little girl his cousin. I thought she was always pertaining to a servant they walked by and his family not his own family. Horrible woman that definitely deserve to be let go and have no good recommendations. Cora is kinder than I would have been she would have been thrown out that night.

I liked Cora for the most part. The one thing they never addressed (at least not that I remember) was her attempts to persuade Robert to fire Bates. I know O’Brien poisoned her mind but Cora never voiced how she was wrong about Bates.
A lot of errors in the series, some occurrences just wouldn't have happened however the script is well done & one aspect is definitely not in dispute, that men & women often lived on the opposite poles of the moral compass.
I never liked Cora, she was nasty at times, like when she had a go at poor Mrs Hughes over that coat, she was just too uppity, and never did much to contribute, just sitting around, poor Edith couldn't even confide in her, instead went to aunty Rosmand
But she later gave mrs hughes her apologies and explained she was upset about something else, and when she found out about edith and marigold she wanted them borh to come back and she never yelled or lectured her for getting pregnant
6:37 This is yet another scene from Downton Abbey that is unrealistic and a little dishonest. In this era, the women would have been more sensitive to the scandal than Lord Grantham. Cora would have questioned Mrs. Crawley on why she involved them in such a scandal, knowing that Ethel had been engaged in prostitution. The women would have left immediately with their hats covering their faces. But of course, this scene was written for a modern audience, and Lord Grantham had to be degraded and humiliated. Men, bad. I love Cora! It was her American spirit that saved Downton! She's one of my favorites next to Sybill.
Her American money first and foremost, but in many ways she was not aristocratic in the real sense of the word than the family she married into.

With the original actors, and de-aging cgi they could actually do it. Of course old lady Grantham would have to be played by someone else.
Loved Cora. She was a real badass when she needed to be.
Yes she was! They left out the scenes between her and Isabel over the command of Downton during the war.
@@paisley293 And the one where Isabel wanted Downton to continue being used as a convalescent home AFTER the war!.
But always in a ladylike manner.
I love when Cora helps Anna and Bates at the restaurant.
Bates handing his cane to the waiter/server was the cherry on top. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was the maitre 'd in charge of the restaurant. THEY didn't use the term server , back then.
The scene with Ethel makes me laugh to the point of tears every time I see it. Cora’s face at the revelation, Violets quips. It’s 👩🏻🍳💋
