honestly, a weekly raw vlog where James just makes coffee with some random equipment sounds very enjoyable. We need more James content in our lives.
Not gonna lie a once a week/monthly live stream of just James and maybe some office guys making coffee and chatting with viewers would be nice
Seattle Coffee Gear did this on Sundays, where Gail would make a coffee, give an update on what is happening and coming up and answer viewer questions. I really enjoyed that segment and was sad when it ended. This would be a nice addition to this channel.
Totally agree. And a q/a like this definitely at least once a year?
Totally agree. And a q/a like this definitely at least once a year?
Raw vlog, life and thoughts of James. Brilliant
As someone who is violently caffeine sensitive, But is still cursed to love the taste of coffee, the decaf project is high priority for me...
Same here! I can only have half a cup at a time. It's a terrible curse and having more info on how to pick a good decaf would be amazing.
Ethyl Acetate is probably the best decaffeination process.
If you haven't already, I would highly recommend trying some "specialty" decaf coffee. I have been roasting my own coffee for a few years now. Recently my MIL got told by her doc that she needed to swap to decaf. So after she tried a bunch of store bought decaf and hated it so much I told her that I would try to source some and roast it for her to see how she liked it. Not only did she love it (and that is all she drinks now) I have actually found it quite delicious. If I was some (like you) where caffeine affected me in a negative way I would 100% drink the decaf beans I have been roasting myself! Just my thoughts! :)
@@lxstrykerxl8632 oh yeah I have been doing exactly that. Chromatic coffee roasters of San Jose has a really good decaf espresso blend called shadow puppet
Me, too! I don't excel in sleeping or not being anxious, so specialty decaf is my coffee bread and butter. I would love to take part in a decaf-tasting experiment.
I'd love to see these as pseudo-"quarterly" updates! Every three months or so feels long enough for interesting/novel questions to pop up.
Agreed! When q&a's are done too often they kinda become mundane (and the questions too) but that was SUPER interesting lol
Im part of a decaf only roastery in Australia. We would be well and truly onboard with purchasing all processes of decaf if you got to that stage. Happy for you to hit us up and secure some.
If you didnt comment I was going to email you about this!
Can i get the name of your roastery. I drink decaf almost exclusively

Love Hames Joffman videos. And they make me appreciate James Hoffman videos more.
"So I'm making a V60...with just like...whole coffee beans...that happens. I'm a normal person. I don't think that's weird."😂

Word. He's really good at picking up isolated things James says and putting together something very Monty Pythonesque humor.
The hames joffman donut coffee one is also hilarious. Its about the guide to make the perfect tasting tea towel.
Definitely the funniest Hames Joffman for me. At some points it looked like he was talking about the chopping board
the Bripe episode is already so silly I couldn’t tell much difference :D
This entire time I thought those were coming from this channel. I didn’t notice it said Hames Joffman and not James Hoffman
Hames Joffmann is the definition of Fair Use.
Its transformative, its really funny and well made, too! All around a great channel.
Never found those surreal mashups funny in the slightest. I guess I am not the target demographic.
Yep. Most clip channels take unedited clips and reupload for profit.
@@timseguine2 okay tim
@@timseguine2 I don’t think so, Tim.
Honestly, the recurring thought for me throughout this very video was "Oh God, the Hames Joffmann version of this is going to be amazing!"
James as somebody whose obsession is Audio, to the same level yours is with coffee, I want to say thanks for having such clean and well-produced audio! It's always such a bugbear when you watch a video where people have obsessed over the image and left audio as an afterthought.
i was looking for a comment about the audio quality too, in many of his videos the audio is immaculate, but i need to make an exception here, it sounds like it has phase issues, they used two audio sources probably, can happen sometimes
@@arturovd6644 Probably on purpose, to make the good gooder (that's a word).
As a roaster that focuses exclusively on specialty decaf coffee, it’s wonderful to see more transparency and attention to the world of decaf coffee. Looking forward to buying bags of the decaf project!
I really like this format because you feel a lot more relaxed. Not improvising, but it does feel different from the more produced and staged videos, which are awesome but different.
Regular Q&A would be amazing.
Not long enough, James. Not long enough.

Thank you so much James for addressing the Decaff Project! I’m a Colombian who loves coffee but tragically cannot tolerate caffeine, so this project is something I’m very much looking forward to see/taste!
We need more of these. I could listen to James talk about watching paint dry.
The decaf project sounds great, and ambitious. I'd love to learn more about decaf processes in that way. I'm drinking more decaf nowadays than regular coffee so I'm super interested in this!
It makes me very happy that James Hoffmann endorses Hames Joffmann. It's not like it really matters, as long as he is just alright with the content being there, but the fact that he finds him funny and recommends his content to some extent makes me glad, because I love both of these channels so much.
Really glad to see that almost a year and a half later, James Hoffmann still talks about the bripe with the same affection and joyous glee as in his review of it.
I enjoy the fact that you like to go to local cafes and just try their coffee. I think visiting where the locals go is quite underrated and should be promoted more (similar to visiting local restaurants). Now I'm more motivated to go that route than to bring my own travel set up!
We always love a good Q&A with James Hoffmann. The people want more of these
I adore the Hames Joffman videos. In some cases I watch the parody recut followed immediately by the full video and it just makes it all the more fun.
I'm excited about the decaf project and I don't care how long it takes, especially if it means a group tasting.
I would say Q and A's are nice to do whenever you can. Don't push to make them on a strict schedule, but don't feel bad to include them in the line up when they are helpful for adding content. We appreciate your mind, and it's a helpful to hear your thoughts on the topics we're asking about.
I love, love, LOVE that you're OK with Hames Joffman. THAT is so YOU!
And thanks for mentioning his channel. Only the truly secure and humble can be fine with laughing at themselves.
You can get lightly used (almost certainly gifts people received) first gen Embers for $40 on eBay. I have a couple first gen 10 ounce as well as a 2nd gen 10 ounce (and the current gen 14), and as far as I can tell the only difference between the first gen and the second gen is the size of the “coaster.”
Combination of having two places where I drink coffee and being unable to pass up on a bargain, if you were wondering.
always more Q&A's! I feel once a month would be fun, a little spicy extra.
I really like Adam Neely's recurring youtube segment: Super Fast Instagram Q&A
@@bytowneboy There's definitely a particular type of person who watches all of these channels 🤣 Neely, Hoffmann, MKBHD, you can probably also add Contrapoints to this hahaha
@@Altroante For any who's a fan of all these channels i STRONGLY recommend Folding Ideas
As a fan who frequently goes back and watches older episodes on top of the new ones that come out, I'm always up for more content. This channel is a metaphorical relaxing safe space I can just feel calm in, so a nice Q&A is a pleasant bit of interaction. 😊
I bought my wife an Ember mug after seeing your review James and she loves it, she takes so long to drink her coffee while she is working and it just works perfectly for her, for me, it would be a complete waste of time, but that's why it's so good.
A periodic Q&A would be wonderful. I learn so much from the discussion. Keep up the great work.
That wasn't Lance giving James a piggyback ride. That was JANCE HOFFDRICK coffee overlord! Praise be!
I have two questions:
1) Is this basically like Master Blaster from that Mad Max movie?
2) If so, what does Tina Turner think about all this?
😆😆😆
With their powers combined, they have the power of all coffee.
I’d certainly love to see these with a degree of regularity, keep em coming James!
One of my best purchases is the bripe! 😊 It really is just something. A very nice thing to have for a coffee drinker / lover.
I’ve been enjoying my Ember, but every so often, the last sip tastes burned. I know that means I’m not drinking fast enough, but I also wish the mug could detect how much coffee I have left and maybe lower the temp automatically rather then evaporating it all away.
Great to hear the update about your vintage machine. I'm really looking forward to that unveiling
I knew it was going to be the Bripe!!! One of my all time favorite videos of yours. So fun and silly.
I’ve been gobbling up the Lucia Solis’ Making Coffee podcast every chance I get and they’ve been truly fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation!
I'd love to see more frequent Q&A's. Maybe you could brew a cup of coffee at the same time and answer some questions. So many of your videos seem to be huge in scope now that it might be a good option for a quicker, more low-key video that keeps things feeling personal for the audience + easygoing for you
Thank you James, there is so much joy to be had from your coffee contemplations.
Lucia's podcast has been amazing. Glad to hear you recommend it. I had my mind changed exactly like you.
Lucia Solis is a great listen and provides a unique prospective.
James you’re just wonderful seriously, like the embodiment of class and vibes at the same time
Any video from you is a great way to start the work week!
I could totally imagine a video about the frozen stainless steel ball method to brew an espresso and low cost options to do it at home
Love Lucia's podcasts!!! So glad to hear her getting a shoutout, well deserved
I'm happy to just listen to any video you put out. You're an excellent communicator, and you often share interesting tidbits I'm not aware of.
Also yes! I bought a bripe, I have a beard, and I also go camping and have taken the bripe on a number of occasions. It's ... actually good, and I enjoy using it.
I look like a complete ponce while doing it though, but that adds to the charm.
I appreciate that you've given your official seal of approval to the Hames Joffmann channel. In the end, Hames Joffmann is like a… special fermentation of the original product. ;-) Cheers! //Rick
The only question I missed is if there's any movement on the Tiramisu project? It was my grandmother's favorite dessert so the idea of a potentially more coffee forward recipe has me intrigued.
Definitely more often James. Was great to watch this and moment where you had wry smile before answering the question.
Love this. ❤ Q&A's can be interesting when they raise various topics. But the long and short of it is that I'll happily watch anything that James publishes. It just brings me so much joy and usually leads me to experience coffee and life in new ways. 👍🤗
I would greatly appreciate the decaf project to consider coffee producing countries as well.
Haha, did James giggle at 1:41 about his use of "middle-out", probs a reference to TV show Silicon Valley's midde-out compression? :D
What a great way to start off the week! Thanks for the upload James :)
Hames Joffmann is great. It takes the humour, mannerisms, quirks & presentation themes unique to you then puts an absurd & pessimist yet somewhat serious twist on them.
#Brip4Life #BripeGang #BripeBoys
I really liked the QA. I do like that you give updates on what's going on in your world and what we can come to expect as well as answer long hanging questions.
Thank you James for another informative video. Thank you also for the recommendation to listen to Lucia Solis. She’s got an amazing perspective on coffee, connected the threads of George Howell’s influence on coffee in the Boston area and around the world, and she totally challenges the importance all of my careful brewing practices I’ve learned from your channel. Nothing like realizing how deep the rabbit hole can go.
Yes, these more often!! That was great thanks, learned a whole bunch of stuff I didn't know I'd be interested in.
I Googled where to order Nespresso pods.
Hames Joffmann popped up in the search, the one where James addresses the product with a bit of anger: "It doesn't have an opinion, and I want it to have an opinion!"
That's how I discovered the real channel.
And that's how I bought a Moka pot, started buying coffee at a good local specialty coffee shop, and why I'm saving up for a quality burr grinder.
I had a similar experoence about 5 months ago. I was tired of drinking coffee from k-cups at work and I was looking for a better alternative for single cup brewers. I found his series on the Aeropress and since then I've become as he puts it "a little weird about coffee". I found that I was spending as much on commercial grade pods than I would on specialty coffee from a local roasters per cup. I decided to get a hand grinder for portability. I regretted getting the cheapest one I could get and quickly upgraded to the Aergrind by Knock. I wouldn't even have known about the Aergring without it. Now coffee is the hobby I never knew I needed in life.
Monthly Q&A always good to get an update on daily’s.
Thank you for taking the time to entertain your faithful viewers. I always watch your videos when they pop up. Really interested in the "decaf" project, due to a heart condition I have recently (4 months now) been having to drink decaf and it is amazing the difference in brands, more so the regular coffee. I am talking about your average off the shelf stuff, I am on a tight buidget.
Hoffmann's Q&A are great! Please, do them more often if you can
I'm particularly excited about the podcast recommendation. It sounds super interesting, so thanks for that.
I like these infrequently. I appreciate it as a moment of reflection for the past year or so of videos.
Great Q&A! I think the less frquent they are, the better, as it's a real treat when one pops up!
Love Lucia Solis. Glad you gave her a shout.
Yep, fantastic podcast-required listening for anybody really into coffee, imo.
Wow! What an ambitious decaf project! Good luck. Looking forward to it 💗
I have enjoyed all your videos, but I do love a good Q & A. Often people think of questions I’m interested in, but didn’t think to ask! Keep up the good coffee loving work!
Really looking forward to that decaf project! Hope you clear all the logistical hurdles without too much pain and suffering.
The decaf project sounds absolutely amazing and I completely want to take part in that when it hopefully comes to fruition.
once your traveling a bit more you should film some different cafes you go to on your travels, cafe culture through your lens/pov would be a fun watch
Love the take James. Anything that can make the producers coffee more valuable is useful!
Having this more casual, less structured Q and A would be awesome to see more of!
Always a joy to watch. Very honest and great content.
Once a month seems like a good pace, nice infrequent updates are usually the most insightful.
So many good questions, even more great video ideas you have that I’d love to see. Keep up the good work and I want a global tasting yesterday. KR
I, for one, LOVE the idea of a special fermentation/processing episode!
I LOVE the ember mug. It is the best thing in my life. I use it three times a day since the video. It is brilliant. Having coffee at the right temperature at all times, not silly, AWESOME!!
Loved these Q&A. Also I’m quite excited now with the decaf project.
James this is awesome thanks for communicating with us fans about the things we want to know about most. Cheers USA
This was a joy, thanks for giving me company with my afternoon break.
Great video as always Mr Hoffman! I am an ember owner, been daily driving it. Love it's absurdity too. Although I love it most for it's feel in the hand and that i can make coffee and leave it to cool, knowing that it will remain at the perfect drinking at any given time. I still haven't told the Mrs how much it cost ... 😀
Q&A should happen every 6 months! It's 1 am and James made me want to brew some coffee... You gotta luv this guy
Great take on the fermentations! My wording would be that "all coffee tastes the same until it grows."
Yes to more Q&A videos more often!! We love hearing your thoughts and updates!
The decaf project sounds incredible, I am here for it whenever it can happen.
Looking forward to the decaf!! I can only take like 10 g "real" coffee in the morning. And if I want to sleep at night, all remaining coffee must be decaf. We decafers are frown upon. There will only be 1 decaf in each brand, if there is one at all... Yes, please make decaf tastes good and have many varieties!!
Just started listening to Lucia Solis' podcast because of your shout out. THANK YOU! It's fascinating. Would love to see you do an interview with her.
oh Yes, more Q&A videos.... that was great! Thanks for all you do!!!
Thank you James for all the answers!
Q&As are fun when time is allowed to collect quality questions. Your content is highly entertaining and you could make paint drying enjoyable, so I trust your choices maestro.
Your take on Indian filter coffee, have you checked it out ❤️😊
Q&A's are fun, so keep'em coming.
Maybe once every other month?
All of these future video project ideas are absolutely awesome, hope it's not too difficult pull them off. If we get even half of them, I would be happy.
Love this series. Questions: 1. I love the cinematic look of some of your videos. My favourites include the picopresso, bripe, the morning filter one in the architectural house, and the Makita builders one. Would you consider doing a BTS of how these videos are put together, and the techniques you use to get that look?
2. I have recently spent a bit of time in Thailand, and i have noticed Coffee become a high end luxury item for people to drink. I've enjoyed a lot of nice espressos there, and the locals have really embraced mixed espresso and fruit drinks. What's an Asian influenced coffee drink that blew your mind away?
3. I remember learning a lot from your 3 business mistakes video. What are some lessons you would like to share back to people about diversifying their income sources?
This video was awesome. Love your sense of humor.
Thanks for bringing to light the existence of Lucia Solis and her amazing podcast. Learning tons over there. You should do a collaboration one day!
Annual Q&A is great, don’t think It’s necessary any more frequently than that, but certainly missed if left longer!
More, more, more. I have watched 2 of these and loved them
Thank you for permission to watch and enjoy Hames Joffmann, just watched the one you linked.
I think I might be binge watching.
That was way too helpful, I'm waiting for the Hames Joffmann response
Super keen for the Decaf project. I was recently diagnosed with adhd which has landed me on meds (which i can't have with caffeine). This is a big deal as Coffee has been a pretty huge hobby for me for a really long time. I've enjoyed exploring decaf- but am super keen to understand how the different techniques impact flavour (but most importantly- which one I enjoy the most).
This was super enjoyable to listen too! Definitely more Q/A sessions in the future, please!!!!
