@@albert333pool I'll be checking that out, too. The way Raphael played was like it was inevitable, doesn't slow down, doesn't speed up, doesn't miss. I really like his game. Nice stroke, too.
It was great to see Rafael Martinez; he was someone I heard about but never saw him shoot until now. His serious, stoic, never smiles demeanor could be a bit intimidating for some competitors but it did not seem to bother the focused but relaxed Johnny Archer.
Ive seen over a hundred of these world class tournys online, and the best playing ive ever seen, and thats including effron, earl, shane, and many more of the best...this man rafael (whove I met in houston tx) played unbeilievably good against bustamante...type in raffael martinez vs bustamante germany in 1996..then watch raffael from 4th rack till finish.
♥♥ Concerning the corner ball going into the corner pocket on the break. I've noticed that, in (some) future tournaments, they have opted to rack the balls with the 9-ball ON the spot - instead of the 1-ball.

The meet up prior to this match where Rafael sends Johnny to the losers bracket is some of the best 9 ball caught on tape in that era. Is that going to be made available soon? Thanks for channel, it's great!
What a great player this Rafael !! Archer got more and more nervous during the game ? Almost psychic in the end.. But had the rolls. B.Cardona can be a good commentator, but in this clip he talks like 95% of the time. Doesnt he need oxygen ? NOW A QUESTION : Will you show the match from 93´ at Sands between CJ WILEY and MIZERAK (i think?) semifinal and CJ shot like 990 !! I´ll kill for seeing that match again !
speaking of cj wiley, he cheated earl out of most of the million dollars earl had won..cj owned a pool hall in dallas and hosted a big time pool tourney, invitational only, bunch of world class players including earl..cj declared anyone who runs all 11 racks on these 9' triple shimmed pockets wins 1 million dollars...you see cj had gone to an insurance company and got them to back this incredible task, insurance companys requirement was that all 11 racks had to be filmed..cj being an ass didnt start filming earls feat until the 4th game..voiding insurance companys liability..think about it 11 racks on a 9' triple shimmed table, earls last shot was a tough combination on the nine, I think this was far more spectacular than mosconies 526 ball run..or anything ever done on a pool table..and poor earl got cheated out of it. this is why earl got the nickname "million dollar man". cj ended up paying earl a few thousand out of his own pocket.
I had a Vacaville California city championship pool team and I was fortunate enough to have Roger Estelle on my team who’s as just a notch under these guys in his prime, he was friends with Rafael so 1 week of the season I had Roger and Rafeal on my team going back to back every set playing half of the possible games, that’s like a retired Marvin Harrison and a Brandon Stokley on a 4 receiver flag football team lol I’ve never played under less pressure to win lol Rafael went 3-1 and with 3 tables run…If he doesn’t run the table he’s beatable cause hes super aggressive and will take chances but once he gets his rhythm 🤷♂️ just take a seat, GREAT GUY, MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT 💯
Raphael was a great player before he got into drugs! Must have been around this time, because I'm the 92' video, he looks 40 to 50 lbs heavier. I used to see him in LA around the early 2k's ( not 10 years later) and he looked like shit, but he could still get on a roll!♥️🙏👉🇺🇸
I saw Rafael average over one billiard per inning and still lose by 18 billiards... Playing Matlock 3-cushion eve to 50.. 50-32.. Matlock got to 50 in 25 innings.. Lol.. Rafael had a 9 billiard run that tied it at 18, at one point..
Man how times have changed, pre ‘cue claw’ and the players get the same uncomfortable chairs as the audience. And the table cloth looks like it wasn’t cleaned the entire tournament.
Archer touched the tip of his cue to the cloth on the hill hill combo. That’s some scumbag stuff I swear if I was red I may call a foul on that bs. You cant be doing that.
@@juanjocastmar8153 Thats good to hear. I am assuming we are talking about the same person. Media reports having him passing away in 2004. Does he still play pool?
Martinez probably never a coach to point out taking certain shots for granted that missed..with the caliber of his opponents that's a death sentence and why he never reached his full potential.. Efrem Reyes made that adjustment and look what happened

Accu-Stats Video Productions thx for the update, looks like another good one!
Thanks guys, it was cool seeing Rafael again. He lived next door to me for a few years not too long ago. So much fun to play and learn from. Fantastic
Cool!
♥♥ Thank you, ACCU-STATS for posting this. And, I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between Billy and Buddy.
Our pleasure!
Thanks for posting these old matches. Love it!
Billy and Buddy, great pool talk. Nobody faster at spotting lint or chalk than JA.

Cheers guys. I love matches like these. My first time seeing Rafael.....wow he's a beast of a player. Johnny is solid as always.
Raphael was a killer! Stoic face and always ready to play! You should look for that match vs Bustamante on RUclips... Sheer firepower by Martinez!

Dicen que el Sr. Juan Valles EL CANELO era un gran jugador yo no lo conocí en persona solo lo e visto en video.

Rafael Martinez is one dangerous player. He has absolutely no fear.
Billiards background, great shotmaker, banker, kicker....He has it all.
He's like a force of nature. Stopping him is like stopping a hurricane. You just hope you can survive.

Great pool, and even better stories!

What he did to Bustamante was almost a war crime. That look on Bustie's face...He just didn't have an answer for Rafa's playing.
Billy Incardona is my favorite commentator of all time. Second in line is Grady

These weren't clay balls these were phenolic resin but I'm guessing u knew that

That was not a foul. He is allowed to move that ball. Now...think very hard about why he is allowed to move it without incurring a foul.
