In a real world, road is dug all the times for utilities installation beneath it. Also, heavy trucks/traffic and weathers would damage the road which need to be repaired. Ground movement/ settlement, temperature swing between day and night/freeze/thaw cycles, use of winter salt and others factor would/could damage concrete that would necessitate repairs/replacement. A 1% damage to 1K long road would means 10 km of concrete.

In the highway the difference can be very practically seen. A part of the highway was made of concrete slabs some 6-7 years ago and it is still fresh as new, not a single pothole or any cracks where as the other half of the highway is newly constructed and they choose asphalt over concrete and funny thing the construction is not even complete over 6 months it devloped pothole deep enough to break alloy wheels at high-speed. In 10 years i dont think it will be anything to be called as road let alone a National highway.

It really depends from place to place, and also depends on several factors like type of Aggregate, Quality Construction & Grade of bitumen, etc.
In Canada & US, the majority of Roads are made of Asphalt & are proven good for use.
For Highways Asphalt is the best option as there is no skidding or tire burst problem so less chance of accidents, it gives a smooth ride, suitable for high speed & henceforth no noise.

This video seems heavily BIASed towards concrete roads.
Honestly, I would argue that asphalt is better for adverse weather conditions. I live in a place where I get to experience all the seasons and pretty much all the roads are asphalt. The video seemed to define adverse weather conditions as 'rain', meanwhile, in reality, there are more types of adverse weather.
One major advantage of asphalt over concrete is that is better for places that actually experience WINTER (snow, ice, extreme cold). Which, where I live, lasts for ~6 months. (It used to be ~8 months, but thanks to global warming that's no longer the case.) Asphalt is better for traction and grip which is really important in winter conditions. In addition asphalt is more flexible than concrete so it is less likely to crack due to the contraction/expansion it undergoes as the temperature changes (and even if it cracks, it's cheaper to repair). On the other hand, concrete roads can crack due to water seeping into the cracks when the concrete expands/contracts due to the temperature and then once the temperature drops below freezing, the water becomes ice and causes the cracks in the concrete to expand.

To have a more durable asphalt road, it is best to stabilize the base at a minimum of 200mm before sealing of asphalt. However there are few methods to stabilize the base depending on the terrain. This method with less water ingress and more durable roads.

Isn't there a technique, especially for long dusty rural roads in remote areas, where a 2-lane wide road surfacing machine grinds up the dust to a depth of 20 cm, mixes it with a hardening powder and water and releases it at the back as a smooth surface. That surface then only needs a thin layer of bitumen sprayed on it and rollers compacting it. You could use road trains for the powder, water and liquid bitumen to limit the long distance truck trips. In that way many kilometres of road could be covered in a short period of time...

Asphalt road are way more easy to drive, maintain, look good, cheaper to lay, if our govt can lay them properly then they are always better option. You can use platic to lay asphalt as well. Environment has trillion and trillion tons of plastic. Concrete roads take ages to build (example near my home) and also they are not good heat absorbers, tyre tend to get damage on concrete more then asphalt.
Asphalt gives smoother drive and less noice in the cabin. Cheap, cost effective and economical

Safety is the most important thing to be considered.
Asphalt roads give a much better grip and are therefore much safer especially for the highways.
Repairing them is faster and cheaper.
They do not wear out the tyres.
If concrete roads had been better, why is it that countries like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have asphalt roads?

Concrete roads are long lasting and asphalt roads are made for smooth rides . Countries like UAE do not get much rainfall so asphalt roads are good for them according to there climate , whereas for us concrete roads are better

No. In Bharat, the politicians earn more by building the concrete roads. Higher the cost, higher is the commission also.

@@Rustomhavewalla I don't know about your state but here in odisha , the government builds good quality things. Our colony road is off concrete which was made 2007 still in good condition . There is a asphalt NH around 1.5 km away from my house ( Bhubaneswar )was constructed in 2010 still very smooth and in good condition . In our Village we have asphalt road which was built around 7 years ago still in good condition. So I would say depends on goverment from place to place . Here in odisha we don't have a lot of corruption on infra structure but we have lot of corruption in coal and iron ore mines

I thought it depended on temperature of terrain. In cold places
    Asphault is better.

This would make sense. I’ve lived all over the US and I noticed that down south (like Louisiana and Texas) and out west (Arizona, California etc.) concrete is the main type of road you’d see. But up north, where I am now, it’s almost exclusively asphalt. To me, concrete looks better and lasts longer.

Concrete roads look nice on urban highways like LA freeways but that's it.. it looks ugly on any other type of roads, and they usually need black stripes too for contrast

Wrong. Asphalt quickly develops potholes in cold climates while concrete lasts for decades.

"concrete road does not need frequent repairs" here in my country they plaster our roads like they do in houses..coz not even a year and those newly built roads start cracking 😂😂.. they also have an oracle coz they repair roads even when they are still in good condition

These roads can be recycled at the same time stabilizer. No point keep patching the pot holes unless there is the motive of a contractor wanting to make money doing the same methods. In our country these contractors eventually have to park up and close.
