  • Today was the best day of the season so far, and its looking to improve further this weekend into next week with natural snow and persisting low temps. If you are headed up this coming Saturday, you are in for a real treat as its going to be a bluebird day after a snow day which = epic groomer conditions. I forgot my chest mount and ended up using my helmet mount today, which made for a very stable image but at the cost of not being able to see my skis very well. I like being able to see my skis and I generally like the chest mount, but I am thinking of using a wider field of view setting and taking one more try with the helmet mount because I do like how this came out with the exception of not being able to see my skis. Another drawback of the helmet mount is that I have to blindly clamp the gopro to it each run, which involves taking my gloves off and fiddling around with it. That is no fun at the top of timberline or skyline where the wind is cold and whipping. Let me know of any suggestions!
    As far as a terrain update, there is quite a bit open now including gondi extension like you see in the video. There are snowmaking piles on white nitro, just not the extension yet. I expect nitro will be open by saturday or sunday. Bubblecuffer, boomauger, and ripsaw will all be skiing great with good coverage by saturday. They are pretty covered already and another 6 inches will be excellent on them. Brackett probably needs 2 more storms or one big dump and that will open up too. My advice would be that if you only take ski trips once or twice a year, wait until midweek next week and you will not be dissappointed. See you up there!
    Cheers

    You need a decent vid of the snowfields to give everyone a taste of what this incredible mountain can throw at you. Sugarloaf is by far one of the best ski areas in the country, and can challenge even World Cup level skiers!

      I agree. The problem is getting to the mountain on a day when the snowfields are actually open beyond just nitro and gondi, and timberline is not on wind hold, and the sun is out so you can actually see the snow on camera. Believe me it is hard to get conditions right to shoot a good video up there! I would love to have good footage of skiing powder keg, awesome, ball & chain, high rigger etc!

      @@xzavier8184 Yup - the conditions both snow-wise and weather-wise are always a crap shoot, but when they all fall together correctly, it is some of the best skiing in the country! Was there a couple weeks ago for a week and had a couple of those days, and my old legs still haven't recovered! Going back again at the end of March for another week, and the conditions should be excellent again.

    OK, so which Sugarloaf is this, Maine or California? Obviously not the one in Michigan since that one was recently demolished.

      You can tell its Maine because of the snow conditions, hard packed snow. Also The way the trails are groomed and ski background noise on the snow.hahaha

    • @xzavier8184
      @xzavier8184  Год назад +2

      its steeper than it looks on video. Usually it is icy but not on this day which is why it skis easier. You are correct it should be a single black

      Many of these upper mountain trails are 45 degrees and sometimes more.

      I'm not seeing the steep "face" part where it crosses the access to king pine summit. That is very steep 50°+ and usually icy. Gongi is also steep and fast for a long way.....
