- Nice little DIY home improvement job today. I'm showing you how I hang a mirror on a wall - the sort that has springy metal clips to hold it up. I'm using 6mm Fischer DuoPower wall plugs and 10ga x 1 3/4" screws (or 5 x 40mm). Always follow the instructions that came with your mirror and fixings. This is just what I'm using.

Great video. Found it by fiat. So incredibly thorough and loved that you cleaned and rearranged your daughter’s vanity when you completed your project.
First thought was that is a bit simple, everyone knows how to do that. Yet a video about a simple DIY job packed with loads tips that I had never seen before yet will be so useful. Thank you for taking the time to share that experience.
Thank you Glen! Glad it was useful! 👍👊
Speak for yourself, mate! Not everyone knows how to install it!
I’ve got a Bosch cable detector. I find I get the best results from it by leaving it in the box it came in and asking my dog what she thinks instead. That gives me a similar level of accuracy as holding the detector against the wall and it’s a lot less frustrating. Then just drill the hole, keeping your fingers firmly crossed and not forgetting to do the “safety squint”
😂Safety squint. 😂😂
I got a new job selling mirrors,it was always something I could see myself doing 😂
Ba dum tss!
going to hang a beveled 30 pound full length with nothing attached to the mirror as it leans. The last few days I've watched about 5 RUclipss and none of them were as educational as yours. Thank you
Best mirror hanging video. Shows everything thanks mate!!!
Heaviest mirror I hung was a Patricia over-mantle mirror from Laura Ashley weighing about 24Kg - onto a plasterboard stud wall. I cut out a 1m x 20cm section of the plasterboard and replaced it with a strip of 12mm white pine. I bolted some small coat-hooks to the pine before screwing it to the joists. Filled in around the pine and painted and it works a treat.
The poop emoji pillow on the bed in the background had me laughing. Great camera framing :-)
I love the toothpaste tip and those mirror hangers! I have a few mirror projects coming up and may purchase those.
I appreciate the help and like the toothpaste tip!!
It's always all these little details that make the difference... Thanks for sharing 👊
No worries Stamatis! 👍👊
Really good video. Well explained especially for the novice 👍🏻
You’re a great Dad!
You gave me the confidence to hang up my mirror myself. Thanks amigo! 🤘
I didn’t know you had to do so much... XD this is harder then I thought! Nice work!
Another belter. Thank you Andy.
Would very much like to see and appreciate a video on the detector. I purchased the same model having seen yours. 👍👍👍
Good job plus love the two handy tips. The toothpaste and the dulling the adhesive strength
Cheers John! 👍👊
Great explanation. Really appreciate you posting this.
Tanx for the upload lov it when great people like yourself share tips
👍👌
Not sure about great but thank you E K ! 👍👊😀
Excellent job done... helpful tips... Great video
Thx!!!!! You solved my problem so easy it's almost embarrasing. But I didn't understand the instructions from Ikea and have been googling for ever on internet for help. Great!
Very useful and clear. Thanks a lot!
VERY NICE AND CLEAN JOB YOU DID. I WILL DO IT THIS MY MIRROR MYSELF.
Lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, I'm a bit OCD and it makes me feel good about using this technique. 👍
Nice. Couldn't use this spring type clip with my kids however as they definitely will be pulling this off!
Not if you tell them there is 230V on it. LOL
Packed with tips, cheers mate. 👍
No worries Bill! 👍👊
nice and a easy installation I am sure your daughter she will appreciate enjoyed the video .
Cheers - nice easy job for a change! 👍😆
😂 Lol at the old people young people dimensions. Good vid mate.
Nice wera screwdriver and impaktor bit holder mate, only the best for the likes of us! 👍🙂
Nice video mate
the poo emoji pillow is just exquisite
Very nice 👍👍
Perfect! I’m going to hang 2 59x36” mirrors today!
Great video! How would you go around hanging the same mirror inside an elevator/lift? Thanks in advance!
Very useful video. Thanks for sharing.
Does there exist a safe/good wood to make (plastic)wall fixings plugs (for hanging things) shorter?
I need to hang sometime (not so heavy) in the kitchen. My fixings are 35 mm long but at a depth of 30 mm are electricity cables so to play it safe I need to shorten the
fixing to 25 mm. Or is there a better solution? Width (length) 60 m, height 5 cm, total weight max 7 kg (probably less but better safe than sorry)
the toothpaste trick made a subscriber
Thank you. I was missing the last step, installing the mirror from the top first. Duh! Thanks!
That just proves that subliminal advertising works!!!!! Made me check that I had already subscribed, WHEN I HADN’T!!!!! But I definitely am now 👍👍👍 my brain said “what the hell is a subscribe driver??”
Never use ANYTHING but ‘Staedtler plastic erasers’ for years now.
Always enjoy your videos Andy (especially the little hidden treats) and you’ve a wicked sense of humour ❤️❤️
If you ever make it across to Dublin I’d go for a pint and probably have the best craic ever!!! (Not a drug reference)
Keep up all the amazing hard work you do and cheers a million mate👍👍👍

That’s pretty much the way I do it, but I use old envelopes to catch the dust, they fold easy to keep in the drill case, then throw away after. 😉
When you whiped the Marks off the wall, they didn’t go on my iPad screen, then I found why. Dirt on my screen! Well done another great video.
Ha ha - hope you've cleaned your screen now! 😂👍
@@GosforthHandyman with abrasive toothpaste?
great video...thanks
Nice one Andy. I did hang a mirror for my mum-in-law that was victorian nearly and was about 5' tall and weighed far too much so had to use french cleats that where triple screwed to the wall, real pain! Still there mind.
Fantastic - it'll never budge! 👍👊
Andy, if you IM me your email I will try to send you a photo of the mirror thingy.
Super vid, bud
Really like the idea of using the tape (and the extra tip for making it less tacky) it's the little tips that make the big difference! I wonder if anyone picked up on the tip of using the tape measure hook to scribe a mark?
Cheers David! 👊👍
Cheers Andy.
No worries!
@ 7:24 the music 😂 sound like a movie
what a cool dad
Thank you!!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Do you have a link for the brackets you used? Cant find any
What size hole did you drill for the roll plugs please?
The packaging I have doesn’t tell me which size they are.
Thx Buddy!!
Where is the dust catcher from?? I need something like this.
Thank you sir
I want to put a frame around my mirror . Should put the boarder around it first and then hang it up or can I hang it up and then glue the boarder around it ?
Hi Andy I love your videos and would love your opinion. I want to get a saw to cut down sheets and possibly trim thin bits of timber. What would you recommend a track saw or table saw. And can a track saw trim thin pieces of wood?
Mark
Hey Mark - a table saw is better for lots of thin rips. A track saw is better for cutting up big boards. Really depends what you make - I would seriously struggle these days without a track saw. 👍
That was really informative video…thanks so much!
? I have a mirror like this but I’m putting a thin wood board on it to look like a window so it’s going to make it a little thicker so what bracket should I use
Hi Thanks For Sharing Your Hanging Of A Mirror And The Toothpaste Tip.
Acquired A Recycled Mirror Today, All I Needed Was To Be Shown How To Hang It. Which You Did Perfectly Thank You.
Do You Get The Mirror Hooks From A Hardware Store Like B/Q.
Keep Safe, Your Daughter's Dressing Table Looked Cool. God Bless 💖🙏
How thick was your mirror? Would the spring mounting clip works with a 3mm frameless mirror?
Since the mirror is standing off the wall the width of the hangers, would it be advisable to "shim" the center of the mirror to prevent flexing when cleaning the face? Just a thought... Thanks for the video, very clear process.
going to hang my mirror for the first time in my life, scared to death about ripping my whole wall down, fingers crossed, thanks for your video!
Thanks Top MAN
👊👍👊
Just out of curiosity, how long does that kind of job take you and what do you charge for it? Thanks
Looks like an IKEA mirror. I cut the cardboard packaging it came in to the same size of the mirror, measured for the hangers and put a hole through the cardboard where the screws would go. Offer the cardboard to the wall making it level, tape it into position then mark the screw holes. Remove cardboard, drill holes, hang mirror, have a cup of tea.
Very clever! Enjoy the tea.
How many brackets need for 4ft x 6ft mirror?
About 2 square meters of 6mm thick mirror. Very heavy. Used a nice piece of wood with a rabbet full width on the underside and two shorter ditto pieces up top. Plugged and screwed with brass flat head slotted screws.
Nice work - bet that was heavy!! 👍
Yes, it was. Man alone, you make a plan. It served well for many years in my small, licensed bar. Room for cards etc. in the bottom rail.
Hi Andy, Don't forget to check that the screw head fits the "springy" bracket.
Indeed! You can be pretty flexible with screw types for these - nice big holes in the brackets. 👍
Great toothpaste tip.g
What’s the best way to fix them to the ceiling? .....asking for a friend
Umm... is this for the 'special' room? 😂
@@GosforthHandyman Use mirror tiles, a WASHABLE grout is available!
😱😱😱😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@negotiableaffections one must use mechanical fixings when putting mirrors on the ceiling.......as I recall !
@@sreval In his 'special room' they'd probably stick all by themselves!
Is there a link to this mirror ??
I wish i'd known about that tooth paste trick on the bath, i'd just finished putting up a shower rail when I knocked my drill over and it marked the bath :( Biggest mirror i've ever fitted was a thick mirror 1950s 1m x 1.5m very heavy took two people to hold it up while marking holes etc.
Hi nice tip with toothpaste
It's a handy one to know - there's (almost) always toothpaste in a house... unless you're in a student house. 😂
Just watched the mirror hanging video. Right sado, I know. But who decided the position of the mirror??? Geoff.
some great tips as usual, loving the toothpaste one ,the only tip I have is use a slightly longer spirit level …..ha.ha.ha ,sorry just been sarcastic....
Ha ha - you're right though! That one fits in my toolbox. 😀👍
Some handy tips for a complete novice like myself thanks. Just the cotton wool dad in me here, but with the mirror not flush against the wall can it not break easily. Would you put a supporting board on the back to help. Like I said I’m not the handy Andy :)
I think as long as the mirror is designed to be used with those brackets your should be fine - installed a lot of these and they've always been fine. 👍
Gosforth Handyman thanks Andy.
Great video. My main bathroom has a mirror, 60 inches wide by 36 inches tall, supported by similar hardware. I am about to rehang a mirror, 22 inches wide by 62 inches tall, on a hollow core door. I need to review your anchor videos.
Hollow core doors can be tricky! 👍
Use mirror adhesive these clips are not suitable for doors .......
@@sreval Thanks for the tip. I knew the clips were not ideal for a moving door, but had not decided how to secure the mirror to the door.
When installing large bathroom mirrors, anywhere between 15-50kg ive always glued them straight onto the wall with Xtragrip silicone mirror adhesive. It was reccomended to me by specialist glass/mirror makers local to me.
Really is solid and never had one fall off. Not so easy to use if you cant prop the mirror up while it sets though!
Glued mirrors can't be reused or resold! ;-)
If you need expert advice always check first with Peter Millard!
Peter's in London where they have dedicated mirror hanging specialists. 😂😆
I know this is crazy, but I erase pencil lines using a pencil eraser.
The white plastic erasers (for draughting film) work very well for this!
Depends on the paint... and the pencil... and the eraser - sometimes can get smudgy and leave eraser marks on the wall. 👍
@@GosforthHandyman and it depends on the wall paper as well.
@@GosforthHandyman Absolutely. The toothpaste tip is a good one. Also, pencil erasers don't leave the wall smelling minty fresh. :-)
Gosforth Handyman But abrasive toothpaste won't?
LOL at turd cushion on the bed 😂
Why not use adhesive?
I have a really heavy and large mirror i want to hang over my fireplace. Its frameless and i dont know how to hang it
It does not have a bar on the back n u cant screw anything on the back without damaging the mirror. It took 2 people to lift it. Its heavy. Maybe about 8ft x 4
i can really see myself doing this. badumtss
Um? 😂
I just wanna put four screws in a wall. Why do I need an entire aisle of B&Q for this? 😭 Two drills??? I think I'm just gonna stick to picking up my packaged Ikea mirrors when I wanna look into them 😂
dividing by two is tough
Don't forgot step zero: check the desk is level. Seen more than a couple of mirrors hung dead plumb near floor standing furniture that was anything but. Looks terrible.
I always hang level, regardless of wonky desks. 😂👍
@@GosforthHandyman Lawful Evil.
I’d guess you’re kids are spoiled rotten!! (Not in a bad way though) Eh!!
“My dad can fix anything!!!”
Enjoyed that very much. Didn’t sweat as much as when watching the lifting turf upload!!
Lol - tell me about it. "Don't worry, dad'll fix it" is a very common phrase in our house. 😆
DAD! You moved all my stuff?!
Lol... I put stuff back *exactly* where it was... think I got away with it! 😂👍
@@GosforthHandyman very lucky....... My son's room looks like a dustcart exploded BUT move something....!
yes but i used rigid plastic clips the picture frame + mirror 4lbs....
such epic music hqha
iirc bread removes pencil marks from wallpaper.
Nice tip! I'll keep that in mind 😊
Worth a try! Watch the crumbs! 👍😀
Am I imagining it or did this have a different thumbnail last night?
Yeah - changed it. The last one looked good on my computer screen but godawful when I actually saw it on RUclips. 😂👍
have you handsweat
A pencil eraser also removes pencil marks from walls!!
See below comment. 👍
I'm thinking just erase the pencil mark🤣🤣
weird, when you pointed at the screwdriver i felt like I had to subscribe...
Strange... if you're already subscribed then probably also worth getting someone else to subscribe too. 😂👍👊
Ha , I just realised im old No10 x 1 3/4 screw LOL
Me too. It's all what your used to I guess.
Toothpaste also works on white trainers
Priten Chauhan and teeth too 😀
It's a very versatile product! 😆👍
