Unless I had been listening to Victor Davis Hanson on his podcast last night, I would have passed on this interview. Good grief! I have been living in the darkness of ignorance all this time, not knowing the magnificence of Prof. Amy Wax. VDH spoke so very highly of her. Wow, she is one in a zillion! It is a beautiful thing each time she says, “let me give you an example”-so rare and extremely valuable. Her situation is another glaring example of the upside down and backwards world, which the Marxist dems created and have been shoving down our throats. She gives me hope that it is possible to rescue, and save our beloved Republic! Thank you Prof. Hanson for your comments regarding Prof. Wax. Your podcast is reliably good, last night was one of your greats.

      Well written comment 👍.
I am a Canadian who came from Hong Kong. I have thus some experience of Marxist-Communist regimes.
A simplified equation is: Wokes = Marxists, Communists = Totalitarians.
A less simplified analysis: Because Marxism-Communism is illogical, compliance will need to be coerced. Broadly speaking, pointing a gun at the older people born before the regime (thus totalitarian) while brainwashing the young born after (thus producing wokes).
Brains are encouraged to feel and obey, not to think and debate, let alone critically. Hence, dumbed down brains on a large scale.
Marxists-Communists are hypocrites in character, assuming a normal IQ. Hence, they lie, cheat, and blame others as a routine. They skew historic facts. They obfuscate opinions. They cancel opposing views. Having many wokes makes the above tasks easier.
Ultimately, the objective is power and control, and their rise to power depends on an unthinking critical mass of people, many of whom have fine-looking paper qualifications.

I am a Canadian who came from Hong Kong. I treasure Canada's constitutional values and principles, including its ideals of freedom and liberty. These do derive from Western traditions, histories, and cultures, including the Judeo-Christian influences. I embrace these.
Now, have Western cultures been all good and lily white? Of course, not. But neither has any other groups of cultures, including the one I was born into.
I tend to seek, in my profession and life in general, the best practices, ideas, and values, regardless of where and from whom they come. In short, meritocracy.
DEI just for DEI's sake, regardless of merit, is illogical and counter-productive, and not just in the narrow economic sense.

My (now former) neighbors libeled and defamed me with countless lies including a couple that paint me as racist. In the newspaper they said I said that black people have too many kids. They got the idea from a conversation in which they were falsely accusing me of something unspecified so they could be victims, and I responded on the premise that if we're playing oppression olympics, then I as the single childless woman in the neighborhood full of large families, am the "marginalized" one, the person everyone should be concerned about. To make my point I counted up the many large families in the near vicinity, and I pointed to a house and said "And the black family on the corner." This is where they got the idea to say I said black people have too many kids. They also said (lied) that "two weeks after the murder of George Floyd" I threatened to call police on their black children over improper recycling. I did say to the kids "That's not the right way to put cardboard out!" I did not threaten to call police. The man telling the lie was the only one who threatened to call police, and he not only threatened to call 911, he threatened to misrepresent my cutting cardboard boxes as threatening him with a knife. He said he was going to call 911 and tell them there's a woman here with a knife." I'm a 5-3" 110 lb woman, 48 at the time, and this man was about 2-3 times my size.

She's right about the bias narrative. Many conservatives accept it, but then are surprised by the consequences (if you accept that all inequality is due to bias, then the existence of any inequality proves that bias remains and the institution/society/organization is still in need of reform, allowing for a sort of permanent revolution against discrimination)

It's forbidden in Islam and Hinduism and all the cultures of East Asia, as well as traditional African, indigenous American, and Polynesian societies. Also, developing countries suffer from endemic corruption and nepotism, but they have MUCH lower crime rates than the "modern" West.

I'm old enough to remember when the conventional people, the conservative people (or whatever label you want to give them) were dishing out irrationality and disdain against the "others" who are now called "woke". And I remember when so-called "out groups" were accepted into these name-brand ivy league schools. It was problematic. These schools were historically inaccessible to most people. They created a caste system, and still do. Ivy leagues were interested in keeping everyone out who didn't have money, influence, etc. And Ivy league schools are still here for those who seek privilege and want power. Don't you think it is interesting that the schools, whose presidents were recently fired as a result of their responses, were all ivy leagues?

May this note find us all ever closer to God, and Peace.
I was introduced to Amy in an interview with Glenn Greenwald and was very impressed.
I am sorry she is treated so badly for teaching trues, but remember if she was a man saying similar things would have been removed quickly.
One of my censored RUclips comment this morning was arguing that since our lives are increasing needlessly complicated, that even with my education, work-ethic, and IQ I struggle with such required crap, and since IQ correlates with better life-satisfaction and wealth, people with lower then average IQ will be expected to have more failures and lower life-satisfaction and wealth, and since IQ generally connected to ancestral region they developed from and blacks from places like Samalia with average IQ in 70's are very likely to struggle and fail, and that such relationship is not allowed to be added to policy-shaping like with our 'war on poverty' that is always argued that racism is the cause of their poverty, and so peoples lives and massive suffering are scarified to the power and wealth of mostly elite managerial class.
And many such examples of blocking information that could allow clarity and understanding, that can lead to solutions that reduce suffering and other long-term horrors.
There is so much good stuff in this video, I'm sorry to be time restricted to add them.
    God Bless., Steve

Read "Inventing the Individual" by Larry Seidentop. It describes the genesis of the family unit from Bronze age Greece and Rome.
It explains how men and women had developed the family as a fundamental unit of society, a private religion, wirh a judge and priest, justified by its connection with its ancestoral lineage.
The family was evolved to suit the inherent attributes and priorities of the sexes.
Contemporary society places little to no conscious validity on the foundational qualities supporting a society made of functioning families.

I found this interview interesting. And I appreciate Amy Wax’s willingness to be open in what she thinks. And I stand on the side that believes that we are better with more speech. Not less.
But that said, freedom of speech is not immunity from critique. And a prominent flaw in her approach is quite well exemplified by what she said about the Democratic Party; that it is no better than its worst and most extreme elements. But for reasons unstated, the GOP is not subject to the same construct. Because if the Democrats are the Party of neo-Marxist thievery and destruction of property as the foundation of civilization, the GOP is then the Party of right wing ultra-Christian Nationalism that seeks nothing less than the end of the Republic and the institution of an hegemonic theocracy. And as much as she may point to San Francisco and Portland, others may point to hordes that descended on the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to forestall the constitutional transfer of power and state legislatures that have sought to commandeer women’s bodies and prohibit drag queens and other groups they don’t like. And as for “freedom of speech” being exclusively a problem of the Left, and it is, similarly, the would-be restrictions on people and causes the Right doesn’t like are equally worthy of citation and consideration.
Bottom line, I don’t find Amy Wax’s argumentation and constructs satisfying. It misses nuance, and forecloses solutions, which is a broader problem with our political discourse at this time.

I'm a big fan, but Ms. Wax didnt really accurately summarize the Enlightenment values as just consisting of rule of law, justice, rigor, evidence.
The very foundation of the Enlightenment were the concepts of tolerance and free speech, without which the others dont mean much.
Tolerance was born out of the 17th century wars of religion, and initially the emphasis was RELIGIOUS tolerance. This is why the Puritans
came to America, to escape religious persecution. Jefferson wrote the Virginia Statute of Religious Toleration. Free speech is absolutely fundamental for any real democracy, and of course we have been seeing a historically unprecedented attack on free speech by the Western Left. Quite devious in their methods, they initially invented the bogus concept of "hate speech" since of course everybody is against hate, right?, so they can say no, no, no, we absolutely support free speech we are only against hate speech. THEN they proceed to define hate speech as.........basically anything leftists disagree with. Neat trick. Voilà.
Now the speech restrictions have expanded beyond "hate speech" to anything that makes someone feel "unsafe" or hurts their feelings. But as Ms Wax points out....only left-wing feelings, not right-wing feelings.

Today the Wall Street Journal had an article on the fantastic pay increases for Lawyers to over $2,500/hr. If the law was not "arbitrary and capricious" it seems that law could be done by any smart person with AI and reason (conventional logic) and the pay of lawyers would be going down, not up. Conclusion: the law itself is politically arbitrary and hiring the most "connected" mouthpiece is profitable meaning the results of the law are arbitrary.

But the averages do vary by race. And not just for blacks. Whites have lower IQ results than Jews and Asians. How come?
Because of culture, not inherent brain power. Isnt it a coincidence that Jews and Asians have always been know for huge devotion to education, discipline, and hard work. If others adopt these habits, they too will have excellent results. Culture is not an immutable characteristic.
