Hey Dreamer, hope your doing well. The writer for this film was inspired by actual events that happened in 1950. I was like you, this can't be true, and in fact, the story it self isn't true; however, the event it is based on is well documented. You can google it if you like which brings up the event of the two officers that were involved.
