  • Just a quick video on how i repaired this hp monitor. The original capacitors are 25v 470uf. i replaced them with 35v ones so they would be able to take a bit more abuse.

Same two caps bulging on mine. Ordered some replacements (35v, like yours) and we'll see how it goes.

I have the same monitor. Is it easy to disassemble? Mine isn't working now, plug in the power and orange led will lit, plugin in the vga cable and it will turn blue, but no display whatsoever. Way back, i caught the monitor burning inside, my suspect was moisture due to cold days in rainy season, i haven't used it for a while. It is connected to a laptop which i wanted to use as an extended display, The monitor is detected like any display would. The monitor just don't display anything. Something might be fried inside.

I have one of these but my issue is that the screen flickers after being on for awhile.

Thanks for this video. I just fixed three S2031 monitors that all went bad over time with the exact same problem...power on, stays on for a couple of seconds and then shuts off.
Total cost for parts about $8 for 20 capacitors (I used 6 and will keep the spares for other projects) I used general purpose caps (105 degree C and 35 volts) and they worked fine, however I read after I ordered mine that people recommend using low ESR (low-Z ) capacitors. We will see. These are the ones I used... (and no, I don't make anything off this link...just added it to be helpful) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DYJEXM4
Note that these capacitors are polarity sensitive, so make sure you put them in the same way - the lighter color stripe on the side indicates the negative lead if it is not otherwise marked...but it should be.
A couple of notes from my experience...
when removing the face plate, I used a folding pocket knife. It was thinner and broader so it didn't gouge the plastic.
I started in the middle at the bottom right below the HP logo from the outside.
There are two clips right behind the logo that will snap if you try to pry the face plate from the screen side out. You want to pry it from the outside and sort of roll it inwards towards the screen.
I then worked on the bottom edge from the logo, side to side until I reached the bottom corners.
Then go around one corner and continue around the edge until you get to the bottom again
    basically like this...

Woah that's super weird, I'm glad I'm not missing a screw at least...

Good job I replaced my caps and now it comes on and stays on. The problem though is when I push the power button to turn it off. The screen fades/washes out and there is a persistent buzzing. It never really turns off unless I unplug it. Any ideas? Mine also is an HP S2031

sounds like the transformer might be going bad aswell. they make a slight buzz/humm when they start to short out.

Also for anyone wondering, the caps that originally come with this monitor are 10mm in diameter and about 16mm tall.
Update: The caps worked beautifully, now it stays on even at 100 brightness. Only problem now is that I think I messed up the ribbon cable that goes to the screen and some color gradients don't show up correctly anymore -_-

should be easy to re-seat the ribbon cable. There are latches on the sides, so make sure it is seated all the way in until it locks.

@@deanrichardson1485 I did my best to make sure it was in all the way, but I think this was a refurbished unit at one point since there's a stripe of tape keeping the ribbon cable steady, and with all the times I took it apart, it got a horrible color issue if I let it press up against the cushioning when its seated in place. Not sure what I can do that wouldn't make it worse now.
