I believe this is what the MLB does and it has shown to make the games way more exciting and meaningful. The only downside is that people can argue its not fair to the higher seed. Honestly, I would be very happy if the NHL made this rule change and I would never miss watching an All-Star game again. Of course, now we don't even know when the next all-star game is. Great Video Stix! Edit: I now see the MLB does not do it anymore. Either way, I think it would be worth a try. NFL and NBA all star games carry a similar "meaningless" energy to them as the NHL all star game does. I think as fans of hockey we should want a great product for the all star game. However I still understand why people would be against it.
Thank you, EBK! Appreciate your feedback as always :) I do understand the argument that it’s unfair to higher seeds from the regular season. Winning the President’s Trophy would have less impact. But, it could make the All-Star game one of the most important days on the season’s calendar for fans AND players! Like you said, you wouldn’t want to miss that game! Well, isn’t that what the NHL wants?
I liked the Idea of the "draft" however, players that play on a team together normally, shouldn't be allowed to have them on their All-Star team. Wouldn't it be more fun and interesting to see McDavid play against Draisaitl? Or McKinnon against Makar?
Right, this too! The NHL is missing an opportunity to make All Star games interesting by pitting dynamic duos against each other! Just imagine those headlines!
@@StixNPux we also need better hosts, Biz, Hank and the boys do a spectacular job covering games on TNT. (Im spoiled and have the best duo, Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond) the TNT crew has great chemistry, and are fellow hockey players. Players want to talk with other players, not some reporter. Could really improve the flow of the "draft" and give life to some of the interviews.
Indeed! Biz and the TNT cast being more involved in the All Star game festivities should have been automatic. The draft itself had chances to be a smash hit success, but somehow awkwardness was an elephant in the rink. (lol at you mentioning Ken and Mickey. A good friend of mine is a big Detroit sports fan, and he always tells me stories of those two being legendary OR hilarious.)
Right, the MLB DID try this from 2003 to 2016. I thought it would work very well in a league like the NHL. I respect your opinion, though, thank you for commenting your thoughts! Is it a terrible idea because it failed in the MLB, or is it because of something else?

Good god
Your idea has already been tried in the MLB and it still didn't work. This is a terrible idea.
