I've had chronic migraines and vertigo since I was in a car accident at 10 years old- 20 years now. I've also had issues with passing out and heart palpitations since I was about 14. I'm too stubborn to give up what I love so I've had to figure out how to keep a job at 16 so I could buy a horse and break her, have 6 kids, travel the world, train 2 puppies, keep chickens and goats and now I have my first milk cow due to give birth one month after I will. It's incredibly hard. I'm finally finding treatments that help, but I can't give up living to spend every day in bed. I hope you've completely recovered now and never have to deal with it again.

I have vestibular migraines, that when it flares I have constant vertigo. It is completely disabling. At 34 I have a service dog and a cane for when the vertigo and balance are awful. Even looking at screens when it's bad is impossible. Shows, movies, videos, they just don't happen. Thank you, for sharing so much with us!

Take this suggestion from an old Tree Farmer. For those who have no patience, Life has a way of teaching you Patience. If you understand that, you will be blessed. Take your time as you have no idea how much of it you will get, thus rushing through it leaves very little of it to be enjoyed ! Things will happen only when they are supposed to and not before, so why sweat it?

    Hey guys,
I just wanted to thank you for being such great role models for me. I left a note in my sign up for the email list (first name Jackson) yesterday; hopefully you were able to read it! Long story short I am 18 and the only thing I want in life is what you guys have; a beautiful family and a modest homestead. Austin, I don’t have many role models in my life, especially dudes/father figures. I wanted to let you know that you have been one of those to me; I found you guys three years ago when I was beginning to raise meat rabbits, and have watched every video ever since. Your love for your children really comes through in your videos, and I find your dedication and commitment so incredibly admirable. Thank you for modeling this life for me! You have made an incredible difference in this young man’s life. If I can achieve a fraction of what you have in life with your family and work, I will be beyond content. Much love and hope to see you guys one day to thank you in person! Keep us posted on any fan meetup opportunities or public events you guys are speaking at, when you are feeling better! I am praying for you! ❤

Hi guys, I've been sick for 2 years with constant dizziness, headaches and tired all the time. I've seen neurologist and ENT and they don't know what is wrong. The most likely diagnosis is me/cfs. I can't work or drive, the most I am able to do is look after my chickens, dogs and cats and a small amount of gardening. Fortunately I live in Spain so I get money each month from the government, and had 1.5 years of sick pay from the company I worked for. Glad you are feeling better! Greetings from Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Sympathize with you having labyrinthitis. Being a viral infection of the inner ear you just have to let it heal and treat the symptoms, dizziness being the worse. Mine is triggered by spring allergies so I had it every year for about 4 years, each year being less and less. Have not had it in years. Hang in there, it does get better. Sending good thoughts.

Hi Austin! After a really bad ear infection as a child I have suffered from vertigo😳 Sickness and gluten really set it off, but the Eplay manoeuvre, an ice pack and strangely enough, jumping on my rebounder helps! It’s a constant problem and I never know when it’s going to hit. The only way I can describe it is that I feel like an astronaut in an antigravity room, with the potential to be sick at any time 🤢 Sure home you feel better soon!

We went through the same thing 2021-2022. We were looking at a creek property vs mountain, we choose mountain and 100% glad we did. Planned on building an off-grid A-frame. Turned out going off-grid costs $40k vs $15k for going on the grid. We decided it wasn't worth the money. The driveway is 2000ft long and was suppose to cost $20k, ended up being $60k. Everything cost more than it was suppose too, always expect to run into problems!! Good to see some other like minded people in PA!

Have had vertigo for years. It comes and goes depending on weather, amount of sleep, stress. It was initially caused by an infection of the inner ear. I suffered as a child from them and then got a really nasty one in my twenties and 💥 Best things to do: lay down in a cool, dark, quiet room. If dizzy, focus on a point in the distance. Put your hands and feet on flat surfaces and tell your brain which way is up and down. Repeat it in your brain until the spinning slows. Ice packs on back of neck. Chiropractor visit s for neck adjustments. Sometimes, you just muscle through it and then sleep. Hope you feel better.

The wierd thing was that right after the accident i CRAVED split pea soup. Makes you wonder about "brain food". I also found it interesting that my brain knew which way was up as long as i was touching something solid. By touching a wall i could avoid falling. I described the "congestion" feeling in my head as "oatmeal". It felt exactly like my skull was packed with oatmeal.

The first time I got vertigo I was unemployed and job searching. It lasted 3 days and I had to interview. I'm sure they thought I was drunk. I really shouldn't have been driving but I needed to find a job. I went through testing at UPMC and was told that it was migraines. I used to suffer from frequent migraine headaches until I had that first encounter with vertigo. Ever since then I never had another migraine headache, but now I get occasional bouts of vertigo. Not fun. I remember the doctor giving me a list of foods that may cause vertigo. I said, "this looks like my shopping list. Not gonna happen. "

If I eat salt, or have stress, the inner sac of my inner ear collects fluids, then I have episodes, which consists of spinning and vomiting at the same time, it lasts from 30 minutes to 3 hours at a time. Meniers is not curable. It started when I was in my early 50’s. I hope you heal really quick, and pray you don’t ever have meniers.

    David Mowie cracked me up!!!!
So glad you're starting to feel better now. I haven't had to deal with vertigo luckily, but I had a few years where out of the blue my tinnitus would get so loud that I couldn't hear a conversation, and then things would spin and I would pass out. After coming to on the floor a few times I figured out that when the tinnitus started screaming I had about 30 seconds to get myself horizontal and then I wouldn't pass out and could just wait an hour or so for it to ease and be safe. That was scary enough, let alone everything spinning all the time! So glad K took such good care of you.
I love a shed roof (we call them tin, even though they're zinc lol). I grew up in a house with a flat tin roof. Definitely no loft space. But oh the rain sounded wonderful! My mum's house is called a loft house. It has a tin roof but it's a really steep pitch. The lounge/dining/kitchen area downstairs has cathedral ceilings which look incredible. Then upstairs is a mezzanine which is their bedroom, with double windows in the dormers to extend the floor space. In the corners of the room where the space is getting too low to stand up, they walled off those bits and put in little access doors so she could use them for storage. It works really well. But a big downside of such a steep pitch is that it's really difficult to find people willing to get up there when it needs work. It's beautiful though. My point is, consider a steeper pitch along with all the other things you're looking at.
With that shed roof design that you did, you're very limited with solar panels as once that row is full any extra row won't be in a good position. Is it possible to have it flat at the front (a teeny pitch so water runs off) for a couple of metres so you could have 2 or even 3 rows of solar panels, and then increase the pitch down to the back? You could also put an actual room up there then.

How to avoid mold. I know it's really popular to build a roof with no attic to make lofts but I worry that mold would build up in the insulation and I wouldn't see it happening and how would it be fixed without taking off the whole roof covering.

I did tell doctors about it, but they never gave me a name and disregarded it. It frightened me the first time I got it, but no one cared. I get vertigo every once in a while. I had it bad when I worked as a secretary at a law firm. Went to physical therapy for it. They had me lay on my back, with head hanging into their hands while they massaged the back of my neck.... Basically rubbing fingers from the back hump (I call it) (just below base of skull) up each side going towards back of ears. After a few minutes they'd also massage the rest of my head, but I found that the back of the neck massage worked best. They told me that vertigo is caused by "like" blood vessels getting bunched up at the back of the head and not releasing enough blood flow through the rest of the head. (That is just how I understood them to be saying I'm sure it was much more complicated than that). SO now whenever I feel like I'm getting vertigo I massage my own neck the same way. And I basically cure myself. I hope this helps. OH another thing. My ex-husband used to get migraines and I used a pressure and release technique on him where I'd squeeze his head really hard for like 10-15 seconds and then release it and that also feels good for vertigo massage too as well as massage the whole head. But mostly neck for vertigo will work.

Fun fact! Ur not wrong! Before our calendar was hijacked in the 10th century, winter started on the first full moon after the harvest moon! Hence why the real Yule was a MID winter celebration celebrated on the full moon exactly 3 New moon cycles after the harvest full moon, so this years real yule would be January 6th on the full moon exactly 3 new moons after the last harvest full moon...make sense? Dates where added to fall in line with Christian dates that where being implemented on the new calendar. Makes sense that we followed the moon instead of man given dates, so your winter has been validated! 🤣 many blessings to ur family this beautiful season. I find so much comfort in relating with yall. 💞

That comment about Aust not being a fully functioning human hit home hard as it’s a thought that crossed my mind a lot recently. My partner has been struggling for many years with a number of health issues, both physical and mental, as well as unemployment (the result of poor mental health and a bad break up before we met) and substance abuse. We’ve overcome so much together since. He’s been holding down a stable job with great pay and conditions for over 5 years now and he quit alcohol over two years ago, but in addition to his ongoing depression, GAD, breathing problems and addiction to pain killers and, intermittently, nicotine, he developed severe panic attacks over the last few months. These used to be relatively isolated to family holidays, travelling and hangovers, but for many months now he’s had panic attacks every day and it’s been utterly debilitating. He’s on antidepressants already which haven’t helped and he’s resisting going to therapy as he says he’s tried it in the past and does not think it would help. I’m very reluctant for him to try Benzodiazepines due to their addictive nature and am encouraging him to talk to our GP about at least reviewing his medication and asking for a referral for CBT, but when he’s feeling bad he says he cannot deal with going through the process and when he feels good, he doesn’t think he needs it/ that it’s a waste of money. But for every good month, we have 3-6 bad months due to these various issues. I’ve been at his side for more than 7 years now and have so many hopes and wishes for our future together (including marriage, children, our own house together) and which he says he shares, but I’m starting to realise that we’re dealing with chronic disorders and that he may never be well enough to deal with additional responsibility. I’m supporting him as best as I can, but it’s been very isolating. I can’t talk to friends or my mother as they would tell me to leave. I can tell they already worry. My job is very stressful with objectively more pressure and significantly longer hours, but the vast majority of household chores and maintenance falls to me, so I often feel drained and wonder if he’ll ever get better and be a ‘fully functional’. I haven’t quite been able to accept that he may never be able to be well enough to contribute more equally or deal with the additional responsibility of children and a mortgage. I know his illness is not his fault, I just don’t know if I can give up on my dreams for the future just to be with him.

How would that person live in your house? What if it's one of the adults - how do you feed and manage your animals?

If when you had the labyrinthitis and did that, did it make the vertigo go extra crazy?

I am pro homeschooling, but your children and you need activities outside of just the family that involve contact in an effort to promote herd immunity.
