    GIRL ... I feel that. When we went to Protospiel this year, my buddy made a very fun trick taking game and everyone loved it. People who didn't normally like trick taking games loved it. And the people who loved trick taking games liked it, but didn't love it - BUT - they had a lot of good feedback. Then one group that came through to playtest the game came to the table and played only ONE round, said "okay, that's enough of that... I think we can go into feedback time." Which, is insane. Literally the round took like 3 or 4 minutes. Bananas. Makes no sense. You can't even fully experience the game from one round. What were they thinking? So, then they continued to go around the table just completely ripping the game apart. One lady said "So, like on my turn, I didn't get anything good, so therefore, I just think this game needs some work." Why? WHY??? Why are people like this? LOL I sat at a couple other tables with those people and they were also giving extremely unreasonably harsh criticism that were so unnecessary. That's one of those core memories I'll never forget haha!

    Game Suggestion to brighten your day: Have you tried Calico or Taverns of Tiefenthal? Calico is an adorable theme of quilting the prettiest quilt so that cats will want to sleep on it. It hides a VERY tricky strategy. Taverns of Tiefenthal has a cool teaching method of 7 modules that you can add one at a time over 7 plays (or more) to get you from starting rules to a really full set of rules. It's pretty cool and I like how they presented the rules. It was a good experience that had each of the modules changing the game in an interesting way.

    We had such a positive experience our first time playtesting with the public that we are worried our next con (in two weeks) isn't going to live up to that first experience. We have worked non-stop since March and the newest version is SO different. There is a small part of me worried that the repeat testers won't like the newest version. We had two guys who came back every day of the first con. Also, do you ever worry, when you interact with people during playtesting, that making the experience better by being friendly and engaging damages the feedback you get?

    • @PamWallsGameDesign
      @PamWallsGameDesign  3 месяца назад +1

      @@Oviedo_Gamesyou’ll never know til you try and see what happens! There’s always the chance it won’t go as well as you hoped, but that’s just part of the process. But mostly, have fun! I hope you have a great time at your next con (and get helpful feedback) 🙌 And I always try to create an atmosphere where ppl will feel comfortable sharing their honest opinions about the game and so being friendly and not talking too much helps with that. Best of luck at your next playtest!

    I feel your pain about the rude play tester. I had one particular play tester at BGG Con last Fall that just clearly did not like the type of game I was play testing and would just say that everything was "stupid". "Oh, I flip a tile and get the resource under that tile? that's just random and stupid..." 😂 I knew it was going to be a long session...

    • @PamWallsGameDesign

      @@RobertoPanetta81 ugh! I’m sorry you had to deal with that. That is the exact same vibe this guy had 😞 Most of the time, playtesting with strangers is great, but there’s always the chance you’ll get a troll. Thankfully it doesn’t happen too often I guess. But if that happened to me on my very first playtest, I don’t know if I would have continued with game design 🤷‍♀️

    Definitely felt the same with harsh critiques from playtesters. It's super annoying when it's entirely group dependent and not really a fault of the game
