Having training as a hairdresser I'm very well acquainted with color wheel 101. With the golden tones in the tan, I expected something in a rich green tone. You do see that green as a shimmer, especially in the last few shots, but the lilac and violet shimmers were definitely unexpected. 5/5 for me!

Initial thought was also green but then I realized the tan had a lot more grey in it (which means there was already some blue there) so I had expected closer to an aqua or teal. I didn't account for how much red/pink was in the initial blue to pull it back to periwinkle.

I predicted a gray shade. It looked like I was gonna be right for a little while. The end color was no where near what I thought it would be. Initially, it appears lavender, but the more you look at it, the more blue it becomes. I give it a 5 for uniqueness.

Just yesterday my 5 year old was painting paper plate critters and she made tan from white yellow & red, then mixed it with primary blue. First I though she was just starting to make a mess but after it mixed she got this beautiful soft blue. And now today I get to see this beautiful color used with quality paints sprayed onto a car 💙 I guess I need more of this color in my life lol

    • @spayced
      @spayced 10 месяцев назад +10

Thats funny, I paused before mixing and was prett close. The main clue was the amount of white in the tan. Its got very little color of a bit of orange maybe. So its going to lighten overall first and then after that mix in the orange which has red that makes that halfway between a purple and teal. Another thing to remember is blue is always stronger than other colors. So 50/50 blue with anything will come out more blue. Something with how human eyes work imo

The Desert Tan tones down the Persian Blue without destroying the color, yet makes a wonderful contrast with the dark trim of the Mustang (the dark tint windows, wheels, grill, etc.). It helps keep the color balanced.

It’s all down to tinting strength and opacity. Some pigments just pack more of a punch, even if they’re the same color. Titanium white and zinc white are a good example. In acrylics zinc white has a tinting strength of almost nothing and it has a low opacity. It’s good for fog and mist in a landscape. Titanium white though behaves much better in blends and does what you’d expect it to do.

I'm generally not a fan of blue vehicles but I genuinely LOVE this color, subtle pastel kinda look really works. Got me wondering how my Nissan 720 would look in that color combo, great work guys!

This is a 4/5 for me, absolutely lovely. The softness of the color contrasts nicely with the more aggressive shape of the car. :D

I also expected brown. As it was mixing it appeared almost lilac, but as it poured I could see the final blue. I like it, with the hints of tan on the edges and contours.

That’s a gorgeous, subtle & at the same time, slightly aggressive, smokey blue colour. Love it. Was definitely expecting it to be more brown, but it came out amazingly

Tan is blue, red and yellow with white to lighten it up from brown. Adding the Persian blue would add to the blue in the mix and the white would tone it down. The color shift really helped this from becoming boring. It’s a nice color.

Not what I would have expected. The result is much bluer than anticipated. I was thinking it would be something somewhat greener but not really 'darker'. I like the color 5/5. A series of different mixes with from 10% Persian Blue up to this 50% would be interesting.

  • @brianhall4182

I only work with miniature paints but color mixing is always really interesting. Different paints of the same color can achieve different affects when mixed simply due to the manufacturers using different recipes to get the same hue. A lot of them are multi-pigment with different opacities and coverage. Darker colors are usually stronger as well due to having larger pigment particles. Combine all of that and you wind up getting some surprising results when mixing up your own colors.

I did not expect it to look so good! It turned out to be a muted soft blue and very attractive far better than i expected it to come out.. Must admit I am a bit surprised at how good it looks!!!!

I actually was expecting a lighter blue due to the fact that Persian Blue is so strong/vibrant.Ended up in between a blue and purple I'd say. not bad. However now I am intrigued to see what would happen if you add a 3rd color (at 50%) :)

3 - I expected something in a green tone based on the color wheel (with Desert Tan being 'yellowish'). I loved the lightness of the color before it was sprayed. It looked more lilac or periwinkle. That would have been cool.

💪 good on you for getting more camera face time. You bring a good balance to these episodes, respect for your sense of balance between good ideas and practicality.

Definitely a 5 plus. It’s the most beautiful shade of blue that I’ve ever seen on a car. I will say I would have never thought tan would work as it did here. I don’t like when people think blue & tan work. In this case, I’m glad to be wrong. I thought it was going to look muddy. Excellent job.

I have an extensive background with color theory. This honestly turned out close to the color I had in my head, which was more of a slate. But, this color is just beautiful. And, I didn’t expect to see the tan in the shimmer, which somehow gives the cool blue a warmth. It’s fantastic! 6/5 I definitely want a car painted with this color.

1:45 There is a colour I've seen on an ad for a Mercedes truck (of all things) a long time ago, and on some cars too, but rarely, which is kind of like a bronzy-brown colour, which is to die for -- it is simply _the_ most gorgeous colour you could put on a vehicle. I can't remember if it was metallic or not -- I think it was. But the effect was stunning, whether metallic or not.

Can’t dip cars in Australia ( I don’t think anyway) but still a long time watcher, first time commenter. This colour combination totally blew my mind, was expecting a olive greenish sort of muck, but instead it turned into an almost forget me not blue, my favourite colour!! Love the experiments, the mixing is mesmerising and love the constantly exasperated face Gabe wears, 😂 and of course, the cars.
