Sunday is named for Sunna, old Germanic personification of the Sun
Monday is named for Máni, old Germanic personification of the Moon
Tuesday is named for Tyr, god of War
Wednesay is named for Woden (Odin), the Allfather
Thursday is named for Thor, god of Thunder
Friday is named for Frigg and/or Freya (there's a lot of confusing overlap with these two in myth), wife of Odin and/or goddess of Love
And then there's "im not like other days" Saturday which is still named for Saturn, a Roman god
Fun fact: in a bizarre linguistic coincidence, the Japanese words for Sunday and Monday are ALSO based on their words "sun" and "moon" respectively despite having absolutely no connection whatsoever to the English origins

I absolutely love Ragnorak. It is a refreshing take on the old tale and so worth you all seeing it. Danu and Herman did an excellent job. I cannot wait to see S3. Skol!
Great show I hope they go on for many seasons to come also I like how the show tells us the origins parts of the main character story and how his character became what he became a normal boy to a thunder god which is different from the marvel Thor movies and I hope they keep telling the stories that the movies do not.

The Nibelungen is the big dragon with deer antlers. The mythology of that story goes as far south as Worms Germany as they have an Achilles like legend of the guy who slayed the Nibelungen.

It never ceases to amaze me how Scandinavians are soo good at English, like Herman doesn’t even have a HINT of an accent! It’s a m a z I n g!!🤍
Yes he does. Its very very subtle and you couldn't peg it as Norwegian, but its there. I'm a native speaker, I can hear it. His English is excellent but he would not be mistaken for a native speaker, mostly coz he doesn't sound like he's from any specific English speaking country. He has that almost accentless "international" English where its grammatically flawless but it doesn't sound like its from anywhere.
@@jazzycat8917 hey, this was just intended as a compliment to Scandinavians, not as a linguistic analysis:) I’m half English myself, and I can hear all the subtleties for sure, but as someone who grew up in another country, I know the struggles of non-natives and his pronunciation is veryyy good. Well, they learn from a young age and the languages are grammatically very similar. Something like 80% is functional.

I love this show so much although they have been talking about the battle since season 1 and at the end of season 2 it still didn't happen, i know for a fact a season three will make this show complete but also how ever many seasons we can get I'll take! But also I have to say that season 2 is my favorite both I think. It's a shame Isolde died though in season 1 cause things could be pretty interesting with her.

In sweden we learn about the week names in first or seccond grade. Atleast we did in the late 90:s :)
Måndag (Monday) = Day of the Moon
Tisdag (Tuesday) = Day of Tyr(Ti in old swedish)
Onsdag (Wednesday) = Day of Odin
Torsdag (Thursday) = Day of Thor
Fredag (Friday) = Day of Frigg or Freya(cant remamber)
Lördag (Saturday) = Lay of löga(take a bath)
Söndag (sunday) = Day of the sun

I don't know about Nordic languages, but in English and other Germanic languages the names are not from Norse gods, but from old Teutonic deities. SInce they were a germanic tribe, it make sense the names of some deities would be similar, but it has nothing to do with Norse gods. I mean, in English, which is what the video seemed to be about.
