This book is not a dry and tedious military/geo-political read. It is a tremendously readable and very compelling story. The characters are richly drawn, and the plot is intense. Highly recommend. BTW, the interviewer in this video really had read the book and asked very appropriate and interesting questions. Kudos all the way round.

I'm Chinese but I don't mind the ending where India steps in to save the day. The Indians lecturing the Americans at the end about losing their empire makes losing Shanghai to a nuke worth it.
The Indians didn't lecture the Chinese at all. LOL.

It is unlikely that the U.S. will be defeated easily, but the carelessness of that hegemonic power invites the possibility of small defeats. In the first place, it is not realistic when the existence of allied foreign countries such as Britain and France is underestimated.

dudes who go into combat in open-toed shoes regularly defeat the United States military, I can only imagine how badly they will get slapped around if they go up against a near-peer armed force.

@@captivatethem The taliban won by blowing up humvees, not shooting down planes. Did they ever get helicopters? They are phasing out the humvee, because I guess it's proved an embarassment.

So when you commit to an action, you don't try to see what results in the future from that action? You don't think certain actions echo for longer down the line? Do you think you can solve every problem when it becomes glaringly obvious to be a problem, or do you have to plan ahead a little bit?

I mean, Hillary Clinton trying to win by saying she was a woman WAS cringe in 2016, so hopefully politics will have evolved beyond that by 2030s and women try to win on actual merit. :/
Hence, why I'd overlook the woke aspect and still give it a read.
