At the company I worked as an IT specialist all USB ports are scanned for illegal activities as soon as you plug something in. Some people in admin weren't even allowed active USB ports on their PC's. My personal motto in any case is at home to scan everything for malware and viruses whether downloaded or plugged in. And always the first thing to do with a new device is to install a reputable antivirus/malware software package. If I was the head of any big company I would make a Cybersecurity course mandatory for all new employees starting the first day of work in the company. If your job requires touching a keyboard then you do the Cybersecurity course. The same principles can be used for personal mobile devices. It's not that scary.

Alright the country is way back on that most risks are caused by users no matter how secure systems are.

who benefits at the end of the day... sounds like a marketing pitch. any idiot who inserts an external drive onto a sensitive computer is negligent and needs to be treated as such.

Due respect to the interviewee, but it's not that simple. In parricular he hammers on about USB dongles / flashdrives. Whilst there may be some credibly in connecting these devices, initiating cyber attacks through using it is unlikely.
Provided of course security and firewall software is up to date that most likely being the case, particularly where businesses are concerned, devices containing malware will be detected on connection, isolated and the threat neutralized.

Its very easy trust me. As a developer i know ( see cyberduck modules running python code and payload for both windows/linux os) it takes less than 3000ms to drop shell rights take over.

Firewalls not effective they are detected as keyboards. Name one firewall or antivirus that ever scans or block keyboards or mice

It is not only old people! I am 75 but have had a computer in my home since 1975. I am very wary of digital devices because I know how easy it is for people to take advantage of the innocent people, many of whom are from a disadvantaged background.

Don't plug any USBs into your machines. Don't click on random links or links you do not know about in emails or online when browsing, ALWAYS look at the URL. Use a password manager and do not store them in your browser also apply multifactor authentication to everything.
