One day in Spain I worked in the TV booth with Frank Williams, Jackie Stewart and Nigel Roebuck. I was in the booth early, but when they brought in Frank, I was blocked in without the materials I’d need to do the TV show, Frank saw my predicament and said rather casually, “If you need to get out, climb over me.” Sure, I was going to climb over Frank Williams to get some reference materials and a pen! Luckily for me, the nice lady from Spanish TV came by and unlocked a second door that allowed me to get out and get back without disturbing anyone. Interestingly, part of my job that day was to pass talking point notes to Frank and Jackie, but no sooner had I finished a note than one or the other (usually Frank) brought up the point without benefit of my note. Frank was pragmatic about his condition, and he had a mind like a steel trap. Watching him that day was an education . . .
