#dallascowboys #nfl #detroitlions - Спорт
It's worth noting that Brad Allen directly looked at Decker and nodded to him when he declared.
The Lion's had two lineman (#68 & #58) clandestinely approach the ref and one said, "report"...like his coaches told him to do according to him. At the exact same time they had #70 sub in and run right at the ref and near the other linemen while he did the exact same hand gestures for declaring himself an eligible receiver. He'd been doing it off and on all night. The ref heard one linemen of the two (#58 & #68) simply say, "report" and at the exact same time #70 ran in doing his typical hand gestures for declaring himself an eligible receiver.
After that, the ref immediately announced on the loudspeaker to the defense and stadium that #70 had reported as an eligible receiver. The coaches on both sides and both teams admitted to hearing it announced. The Lion's chose not to correct the ref at that time. If they had, the ref would have made a correction announcement for #68 being the eligible receiver. They didn't do that because they simply did not want the defense to even be aware of who they intended on throwing it to and that he was supposed to be an eligible receiver. They wanted easy, uncontested points and thought their deception would fly under the radar. Well it didn't and they got called out on it. I don't feel bad for them at all.
The Lion's knew the rules about reporting eligible. They must do so clearly and unambiguously to the ref. Simply saying, "report" doesn't cut it nor clarify anything. It especially doesn't as #70 is running directly to them and the ref as #70 is doing the typical hand gesture as is typical for someone declaring themselves an eligible receiver and as he had been doing all night.
I remember years ago when the Patriots tried similar highschool level shenanigans bs against the Ravens. They had lineman out where receivers usually line up and receivers where lineman blockers usually are...and they didn't properly report eligible receivers at all. The NFL changed the rules about reporting eligible receivers and proper formation arrangement. Reporting eligible receivers is supposed to be clear and unambiguous. The defense is supposed to be told who eligible receivers are before the play. The Lion's heard #70 called, had plenty of time to tell the refs to correct it, and chose not to because they wanted to win even if it was dishonestly. They then let the refs and Cowboys take the blame for the call as if it was all their fault. The Lion's organization and coaches should be ashamed of themselves.
I swear, if things were exactly flipped and the Cowboys tried what the Lions did and lost the game after multiple 2-point attempts rather than kicking a field goal, they wouldn't care at all. The narrative they'd push would be: the Cowboys tried to fool the Lion's and they confused the refs; McCarthy is an absolute fool; the Cowboys should have scored more and not allowed the refs to decide the game; typical Cowboys doing typical loser Cowboy things; the mistakes and penalties and turnovers cost them the game; and blah blah blah blah. They didn't care and damn sure didn't get outraged when Micah was being egregiously and blatantly held during the Dolphins game over and over and over. That prevented him from getting sacks and causing issues for Miami. In fact, Micah hasn't had an offensive holding call in his favor for over 40 quarters now...and that's despite him being egregiously and blatantly held on almost every other down he plays. Maybe just maybe those lack of calls that are systemic and seemingly targeted towards him and the Cowboys has a more profound impact on games and how they shape up. Meh...but everyone loses their sh!t3 for the Lions after they purposely try to deceive everyone from the sidelines before a play is even played and purposely letting the defense think someone else is supposed to be the intended receiver. The Lions and the commentators defending them at all cost while crapping all over the refs and Cowboys have no integrity, no principles, and no honor. Period.
You wrote all that for me to say this keeping it simple they still got robbed and you know it. I think you should own up to it as well and accept the fact that they didn't get treated right. Oh I forgot they were honoring Jimmy Johnson. 🙄
@@zerotunzend3182 what are you talking about? Not only is the PA not the official channel of communication between teams and refs, but it also was not heard by the Lions staff. Dan Campbell explicitly stated he could not hear the PA and that even if he did, he wouldn't be able to correct it because he had no more timeouts. On top of that, sending 3 people to the refs while only one reports is how any team would run this play -- it'd be foolish to tip off the defense any earlier than needed, so teams don't do it. All of this was given directly to the refs before the game. The reality is that the Lions had every reason to believe that everything they did for that play was enough to avoid the refs from screwing it up and yet they did anyway. Believing that the Lions were trying to just get away with throwing to an ineligible receiver is beyond stupid. Seriously. If they had any reason to think that 68 wasn't eligible, then they wouldn't have run that play. Why? Because there's no chance in hell that the entire stadium would simply forget that 70 was declared. It's also ridiculous to think that anyone on the field could hear the speakers when crowds used to prevent players from hearing their coaches through the speakers placed right by their ears. Get real.

It's frustrating when the Officials refuse to acknowledge they made a mistake. We're all human. We make mistakes. But refusing to own the mistake is worse than the mistake itself.
And expose the criminality...? MUM is the word...
It is the player's job to make sure the know. Not the rush job to clarify things it the players job and he didn't do.
I agree but they had at least 7 possessions to score at least 3 to score a 2 point conversion not to mention refusing to kick the extra points you cannot leave points on the field.

Yes. This is what happens when gambling is allowed on these games with huge stakes.
Wasn’t Dallas’ QB throwing the football into an end zone devoid of any Cowboys intentional grounding? A commentator even made a comment that it was. Also, the refs missed obvious pass interference late in the game against Dallas with an official running towards the violation. Detroit was just not going to be allowed to ruin the NFL’s big Dallas Cowboy event.
Yes sir he launched yes there was a flag for holding on Detroit unless you run a 2.1 60-65 yarder you're not getting it Dallas p.i- on Amon ra no call
Micah Parsons said he was told 70. But there's a bunch of fake videos out now. The spaknish version is only one you can hear 70 eligible on.
Look at Decker hes got 4 guys on him they are playing 2 man on man on skipper side re watch. Also we had no t.o if anything needed to be fixed. Sewell lining up next to skipper made skipper in eligible. But new York and upstairs and Brad and Co. They had to review it so The NFL had too many loose ends to admit. NY would've been implicated. No lamb got luck Aaron Glenn not putting iffy and vildor down the field instead of Barnes on and under route he slips on.

Not necessarily. Detroit coach should have kicked the PAT after the penalty and forced OT.
Remember too that the Cowboys had no reason to cover the lineman who caught the 2 point conversation. They were told the other lineman was eligible.
Let’s not forget the bogus tripping call on Dallas tight end that put them at 1st and 25 instead of 2 and 3. Detroit should have never got the ball back. Yes a lot could happen in 3 to 4 minutes. But Dallas could have ran the clock out. And made Detroit use up timeouts

I just thought it was a funny comment and when the Lions have their alumni games it’s similar obviously minus the Super Bowls and Ring of Honor. I think only one former Detroit Lion (Joe Schmidt) is alive from their last title. I grew up in Detroit and attended many games from 1966-1973 with my Dad and we were season ticket holders. Great memories though no titles. There is a rich history of football in Detroit unfortunately it’s been a long time since they’ve won anything. I have been watching all the well run NFL organizations such as Dallas (5 titles) Pittsburgh (6 titles) Green Bay (4 titles) San Francisco (5 titles) New York (4 titles) New England (6 Titles) my whole life. I respect them and as a Lion fan would love just a taste of that success. One would be sufficient. The Lion/Cowboy game last Saturday was one of countless almost, shoulda, woulda, coulda Lion games we Lions fans have witnessed over the last 67 years. Including the 5-0 loss to Dallas in 1970. So forgive us if we complain just a little and know most Lion fans respect the above mentioned organizations. It’s a game I love and I’m hoping for a title before I leave this earth. It’s ok if it doesn’t happen but it would sure be nice. It only took the Chicago Cubs 108 years to win it all! Be well sir and be grateful for the Cowboys. It could always be worse. 😎🏈

@@ultravenia That is on Brad Allen the head official. He should have admitted the mistake and simply replayed it.
No what it meant was they were trying to figure which penalty out of 3 to call.
Exactly
Lions were going for the win at the 2-pt conversion, and there are MANY excellent reasons why:
1) You score, the Cowboys MUST win the game or lose the game in the next 24 seconds.
2) The Cowboys don't have to force the issue in regulation, MUCH less pressure if the game is tied.
3) OT coin-flip introduces pure random luck - and the Lions then have a 50/50 shot at giving the Cowboys TWO possessions to win the game with the Lions never touching it again
4) The Cowboys were at home, where they are now 16-0 in the last two calendar years.
5) Players playing an extra session? No thanks - see Chubb, Bradley and Johnson, Dillon for why you want this thing over in regulation
6) Play for a tie and fail to score and GET the tie? Same as a loss in the standings, the Lions needed 2 wins and a SF loss, anything less than 2 wins means you need two SF losses. A tie is a loss here.
Main thing being Point 5. Jamo and LaPorta left the game dinged up and we don't need any more injuries heading into the postseason.

Y'all left out an extremely important part of this and that's Dan Campbell explained the play to the ref before the game. The ref shouldn't have been confused bc he knew it was coming
There is no excuse to be confused regardless. These are giant men with VERY CLEAR numbers on their jerseys. Look at the number for the giant man standing in front of you that is telling you that he is reporting.
Nobody is acknowledging the opening act to the finale. The cowboys was called for tripping on pollard. It was Hutchison. Who was tipping. And if you was watching they never replayed that penalty like the do on tv. Aftrer calls. So stop being mis led . Then they had 2 more tries and failed. So the lions beet themselves.
😂 you can’t use the refs as part of your ruse to confuse the other team. Even worst they went to them before the game and was like hey we need you to play along with it lol I’m glad it backfired on them
Up until today years old I thought the officials worked for the National Football league, but as I currently understand it from yours and others comments, Apparently Brad Allen is actually employed by Dan Campbell and is to help him and the Lions implement a last second trick play to win the game by confusing the Cowboys about who is reporting or not reporting. I just want to make sure I'm hearing that correctly.
That doesn't change the reporting requirements. How's the Ref going to know when a team is going to use which play? Besides, the Ref wasn't part of that meeting before the game, other officials were from what I've heard.
If you watch the wide view, you will see 70 running onto the field with left hand up and right hand rubbing his chest/belly. That is the "I'm declaring eligible" signal. That wide view also shows the ref looking at him as this is occurring.
If you’re gonna suspend or fire Brad Allen, you also need to get rid of Carl Cheffers. Dude absolutely has it out for the Chiefs and Rich has implied as much before.
If the ref took 2 seconds to listen to # 68 who was 6 inches from his face instead of assuming #70 who is never closer than 5 feet then we aren't talking about the ref and his incompetent call
68 was not six inches from his face. #58 was and #70 was running in. The shifting from 70 being eligible to not eligible in the play told us what we needed to know. It was all a ploy and they went too far with it and got caught.
Or the lions could have not tried being cute, or when the ref announced to the entire stadium that 70 had reported, one of them could have gone up to the ref and corrected the error.
Also, the lions shouldn't have even had the ball in the first place because the refs screwed the cowboys on a BS tripping call. If they get that right, Dallas just runs the clock out.
Or if they call tripping on the correct team
@@snerdtergusonNo possible way anyone on the sidelines could have heard that botched announcement. If they don't throw the flags, Cowboys are totally screwed by the refs . The refs told the Cowboys the wrong number. #70 said nothing to the ref. How bad would Jerry Jones be screaming if no flags were thrown? Exactly. Now you know why they were thrown .
if defense was told #68 was eligible than he would ave been covered and probably not wide open.
The ref saw 70 coming at him, and he turned and moved immediately toward the Cowboys, ignoring the two Lions, including 68 who was reporting. A clear case of a ref assuming something while ignoring what actually happened. He turned and moved to the Cowboys because he assumed it was 70. Those actions punctuate exactly where the ref mindset was. He should personally apologize to the Lions organization.
How long do you think a ref is supposed to wait for players to run in and report? 68 & 58 were next to him the whole time. Maybe, just maybe, they didnt say anything OR 68 just said the word "report" which some have said is what happened. The NFL doesnt believe this play is about deception and made changes to clean it up(thanks to the Patriots). If Dallas was told #68 they wouldve covered 68.

It’s crazy how much is saying the lions got screwed but had the cowboys lost and it came out the tripping call was suppose to be against the lions would the narrative be “The Cowboys was screwed?”
Absolutely not
Two points on this, no pun intended…
#1 had the referee told the Cowboys that 68 was an eligible receiver instead of 70, then the Cowboys would’ve covered him and he would’ve never caught the ball to begin with
#2 don’t forget the lions went for it on 4th down earlier in the game instead of kicking the field goal. Had they done that they would not have even needed a two-point conversion at the end of the game !!!
Don’t blame the refs when you yourself don’t correct them for announcing to the world that number 70 was eligible instead of number 68
Can’t have a Cowboys museum night with a Lions win.
If Brad Allen had a problem with multiple players approaching him, he should have said that during the pre-meeting when Dan laid out the lay.
Dan didnt talk to him in the pregame meeting ...........supposedly Brad Allen wasnt there
Involving possibly confusing refs in your play is stupid.
When the dementia starts setting in, it's time to retire the white hat
@@ultraveniaYour statement actually clarifies who is stupid
@mptr1783 He literally did. It's a requirement before every game for the coaches and head official to discuss any sort of trick plays, tactics, and lineups they'll be using, and getting permission to use them. Campbell explained everything to a T to him, and the official either forgot, or willfully chose to ignore it. The Lions did everything right here. The official simply screwed up, and it cost them an almost guaranteed victory.
Campbell did the right thing continuing to go for two. He knew Allen intentionally screwed them. He also knew if he kicked it and went into overtime it would be swept under the rug. Allen knew what the Lions were doing. He knew it was probably going to work and he couldn't allow that. That is why he ran up as quickly as he did to announce the wrong player believing the Lions would stop the play to correct him and thereby have to change the play once the element of surprise was gone. The Lions said f' it and made Allen play it out showing just how corrupt and dirty he is. Lions are 0-6 when Allen's team is officiating their games. I find it really odd that so few of you are even mentioning Tim Donaghy.
We wanna talk about that tripping call which would've sealed the game?
Brad Allen's great he won a ton of money off Campbell's hubris. Winners win losers lose.
Hahahaha

Allen knew what that where doing and that it would probably work and he couldn't have that.......really out there buddy listen to yourself.
If the information I was given about the reporting process: two steps are required, physical hand gestures and verbal communication, is correct, then you are absolutely wrong about the ref NOT doing his job correctly. It is clear that number 70 came running onto the field, indicating by the “known” hand gesture, that he was reporting to be an eligible receiver. Whereas number 68 never made the physical hand gesture to indicate eligibility. This is ALL on the Lions! In their attempt to disguise and confuse their opponents, they did NOT appropriately convey eligibility and deserve the penalty. Instead of calling for the referee’s job, he should be commended for accurately calling that foul. If what I was told about the process for declaring eligibility is incorrect, then you are absolutely correct in saying the ref blew it!
Your tone and conviction are important to me and keep me returning to your show. Keep doing it the right way!
Thanks

If the refs don't call the 15 yard phantom "tripping call" on Peyton Hendershot instead of Hutchinson then that play doesn't exist so they're even in my opinion.....both teams got HOSED!!
Nobody is going to talk about that though, because it would benefit the Cowboys.
What about the blatant holding on the Cowboys 95 yard TD.....???
No, the only team that got screwed was the Lions, they have the loss on their record and Dallas was gifted the win and a #2 seed, home playoff game, revenue. Hoping the Cowboys choke their road game this Sunday... NFL is the NBA now, let's give calls to create narratives.. Absurd
@@BigM53the refs have been terrible all year. Really for years at this point. The phantom tripping penalty against Dallas completely changed the end of the game and kept the Lions in it. Exactly. It reminds me of the Super Bowl when the refs decided that Jerome Bettis and the Steelers were going to win so Bettis could have his homecoming (in Detroit, ironically). The call that gave it away??? When Matt Hasselbeck got flagged for an illegal block for tackling the guy who intercepted his pass. There are soooo obviously games that are rigged, or at best are steered towards Vegas’s desired outcome.
I’ve seen videos of this incident and there’s literally a video that explains and shows how in the Spanish Channel, you can hear the ref tell everyone in the stadium that 70 is an eligible player twice! So if the whole stadium even players from the sideline heard it, why didn’t anyone try to correct it?
they said by the time it was realized they were already hiking the ball.

Because Detroit were trying to confuse the refs and Dallas and cheat.
@@GaryBoesel-op6yzthat’s nonsense. It is the whole reason players have to report.
The press boxes are near the PA speakers, which is why they picked up the announcement. You think you’re hearing that announcement on the field? Seconds before the biggest play of the game? Not a chance.
To Brad Allen (the ref)-
1. Lions head coach told you this play before the game
2. #68 walked to you, stood in front of you and declared himself
3. #70 ran in and he never talked to you and.he never declared himself
4. If you thinks #70 is eligible and he lined up in the wrong position, why not dropped the flag and tried to penalize him
If you simply said, I made a mistake. Let line up again, and redo the 2 point try again, we could have accepted your apology and respected your decision...
Two questions... First, did 68 raise his arm and signal he was eligible? I didn't see it. Second, if 70 was announced as eligible and 68 wasn't on the PA, is it not on the coach to notify the ref that something isn't right? I haven't heard the PA audio for this yet.
I don't think this is just going away. People are pissed and expect the NFL to deal with it.
The NFL doesn't care. They all still get there fat paydays either way. They'll talk like they care, but they don't. You know what will happen ? NOTHING. Hell, after a horrendous call earlier in the year Goodell came out and said the refs are doing a great job. He's either blind, or doesn't care. My money would be on the later.

I don't remember the flag being thrown that quickly after the pass was caught. Am I remembering it correctly? Why wasn't a lineman illegally down field never mentioned?
Because they call illegally down field on a lineman when he IS illegally down field but doesnt touch the ball
That's exactly what happened, the Detroit Lions coaching staff attempted to Shadow and confuse the Dallas Cowboys by sending three offensive lineman in the general area of the official in the attempts to, shall we say, camouflage their trick play. Whatever coach suggested the other two players to roam the range by the official at this time should be docked a day's pay or horse whipped whichever the Detroit Lions fans prefer. We cannot blame the official if he did not in all good conscience hear the player check in as an eligible receiver and it doesn't matter if the head coach informs the officiating crew with the trick play prior to the game. The rule is the rule, and you have to check in and announce yourself as eligible receiver when it requires you to do so.
The best way to avoid this is simply having the one offensive lineman announced he is an ineligible number lining up in an eligible receiver position and utilizing the CAC method of communication convey, acknowledge, and confirm
The player conveys his intention and should have waited for the acknowledgment by the referee, and obviously, he did not receive it and at that time should have repeated that he was checking in as an eligible receiver.
Remember Allen reported to the Cowboys #70 REPORTED NOT #68...meaning Dallas D paid no attention to #68 as tackle
excellent post.........its gonna be mayhem if the Rams beat the Lions next week
They got screwed by themselves 😢😢😢
Lets talk about the botched tripping call that extended the game 🤷🏻♂️
Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson intercepted Jared Goff with 2 minutes 5 seconds remaining, and on first-and-10 from the Detroit 29, Tony Pollard ran for 7 yards. Officials, however, flagged tight end Peyton Hendershot for tripping.
The 15-yard penalty backed up the Cowboys to the Detroit 44.
Replay, though, clearly showed it was Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson who tried to trip Hendershot. The penalty should have been on the Lions.
Shhhh crybaby lions fans and cowboys haters don’t want to legitimize that.
Cowboys would have been 1st and goal at the 7. Dallas would not have passed the ball, killing the clock even further.
Missing something during a play happens all the time. Reporting as eligible is a fundamental and basic to football. It's unbelievable and unacceptable.
Campbell tried to trick Dallas sending 3 players to report and it backfired on him.
To those of you who say just kick the extra point and go to overtime, with as unstoppable as lamb was that game is over if the cowboys get it first. The only way for the Lions to win it was that two-point conversion in regulation
Rich, bro, you brought up three (3) key topics that I've been screaming about.
1. You went for the TPC from the 7 yard line...!?
2. It's not the Refs job to recall who's going to be the "guy" on a play that was discussed during pre-game..!
3. They were so busy trying to confuse the defense, they confused the Ref with "THREE" lineman running-up to him at the same time...!!
Ironically, The Lions are incensed that there was a bad call on them, yet say nothing about the tripping they committed, which was blamed on Dallas. That key play would've iced the game.
Lions fans have been gaslighted by the media that they deserved to win because of the 2pt play. The only reason the game got to that point was a completely botched tripping call against Dallas on their final possession which stopped the clocked and forced the Cowboys to throw instead of run the clock out.
BRAD ALLEN didn't attend the pregame meeting?? Fire B ALLEN

When the refs announced "#70 is reporting as an eligible receiver", it's all moot. If the Refs allowed the catch by #68 to stand, you are looking at instance where the Refs LIED to the defense to help the offense. Now THAT would be cheating.
The Refs are not there to hold the Coaches or Players hands, and while Dan was HOPING the Cowboys would ignore or not hear that #68 was was reporting as eligible, he apparently didn't hear, or ignored, the announcement that #70 was reported as eligible.
The Plan was SO PERFECT, Dan tricked Dan. Congratulations, you played yourself Dan.
What was he going to do in the amount of time before they had to get the play off and why should he be expected to do anything if they took the correc steps?
So you're ok with the refs cheating the lions, just not the cowboys? The problem here is the refs, not the lions, not the cowboys. It's 100% the refs.
The phantom tripping call against Hendershot should have been called on Hutch. This would have ended the game as Aubrey would have easily kicked the FG to go ahead by 9.

Fair breakdown. But in all the discussion about the Lions getting screwed we keep forgetting about the fact that the Cowboys had *already* gotten screwed by the refs on the previous drive, and that was the only reason the Lions even had the ball back with a chance to win. Rich touched on Dak throwing the clock-stopping incompletion while completely glossing over *why* Dak was even throwing the ball. The *only* reason Dak was having to throw the ball on that clock-stopping incompletion is because of the phantom tripping penalty called against the Cowboys that took them from 2nd and short at the Detroit 22 at the 2 minute warning that would have enabled them to just run out the clock - meaning the Lions are never even going to get the ball back - to 1st & 25 at the Detroit 44, which had them outside of FG range. That penalty was truly horrific with no explanation for it other than the refs called it on the wrong team. The player penalized - TE Hendershot #89 - never does anything remotely resembling a trip, whereas the guy he was blocking - Hutchinson - clearly kicks his leg out awkwardly in an attempt to get Pollard as he runs by. That is a completely game-changing bad call, and without it, the Lions never even get close to winning the game.
Thank you.
Brain dead reply, bad calls happen. Sure you guys can have that one back, and we’ll take away your 92 yard touchdown On holding.
Im starting to wonder if they teach kids in Texas that 2 wrongs don't make a right, and you cant justify a bad call with another call you claim is also bad. Nor can you use one to offset the other. On the contrary, two bad calls is double the reason to fire this clown of a ref crew. So if you believe what you are saying, why aren't you agreeing these guys should be fired, rather than excusing them?
Yep! And, that screw up was way more directly impacting! If 68 had been reported to the Cowboys as eligible, they wouldn't have left him wide open!
This was an all around bad referee crew because not only did Detroit but Dallas also got railroaded with that tripping call ON A RUN PLAY. I believe had that called that correctly, Mike McCarthy calls another run play which would be totally obvious to do.
We need to start seriously investigating the referees, the fact that they have an influence over BILLIONS of dollars weekly should raise a level of concern over the influence the power may secretly have over them
If you think the Donovan arrest is a unique situation you must be naive
Detroit went into overtime this season and never saw the ball in the loss.
The problem is not the officials. The problem is the NFL not having full time officials. All the officials are part time! The NFL makes to much money to have this problem.
How about talk about how that same crew made an error that put the lions into position to win
The officials also miscalled the "tripping call" by calling on Hendershot instead of the Lions player.
If they got that call right then the game would be over.
The Cowboys almost got screwed out of a win.
There were so many missed calls on both sides of the ball that could've made a difference. I won't list them here, I'm sure if you really wanted to you could open your eyes and see them. However, this referees incompetence took actual points off the board. We can go back and forth about trips, holding, pass interference calls throughout the game but this one screw up that wasn't a split second judgement call which are missed and or ignored every week in every game actually took points off the board. This was blatant incompetence on the ref and shouldn't be excused by any team, player or fan with integrity. I don't win that way!!!
you could say the refs were cheating for the lions by calling that tripping call on hendershots, which actually gave the lions more chances to win.. but they screwed theirselves..
I went to the game. Been a lions fan my whole life, and wanted to see it. We were so mad when we found out it was a referee decision, but losing that ford field is not great. Going back to AT&T is way different than them coming to ford field
I’m hoping out that this plays out so that the Lions get sweet sweet revenge in the playoffs. If both the Lions and Cowboys win their first playoff games, they will meet in the 2nd round. This is football for Pete's sake. They should just go back to letting these guys play the way they've always played football and not come up with all these extra technicalities. The officiating crew including Brad Allen knew damn well what they were doing
It's not about the officials knowing about the play. It's about the officials knowing about the pre-snap effort to confuse the Cowboys as to which of three different linemen were reporting as eligible. The Lions haven't said that they reviewed the pre-snap shell game with the officials. So we asked Blandino if, in his experience, officials would ever go along with an effort by a team to confuse the defense as to which lineman will be eligible.
"If a coach told officials that, the officials would tell them they couldn’t do it," Blandino said. "The referee would never go along with that and would make sure the defense knew exactly who was reporting."
In other words, the insistence that coach Dan Campbell went over the play with the officials doesn't matter. The problem arose from what happened before the play. And the Lions surely did not try to share that part of the plan with officials.

Why not comment on the Cowboys lineman dragging Campbell to the ground by the back of his jersey right as he was about to hit Dak before he threw the pass to CD Lamb for the touchdown?
Rich, you have the very best explanation I've heard. I rewound this baby 5 different times. The only thing I won't indicate is..."The Lions Got Screwed", because, to me, as you have also indicated, the Lion's [admitted] they were running at the 'Ref', at the same time...(causing an uproar of controversy). Number 70 lines up in an 'off-balanced' formation, but, he's not eligible (Number 68 is the actual one that should have 'reported', because he is at the 'end' of the other side). '70' is part of the 'pair' of tackles the Lion's sent to the right of their center (along with a Guard, and...a SE). Whoa, Rich...I don't even want to think about the 'point spread'...which (further) turns this into (you might have to consider this, once in a while) a betting controversy, right? I mean, when it looks so controversial...
They did not make a mistake. Walt Anderson and the league released a video of the play. Decker might have said he was reporting, but as Skipper was running back onto the field, you can see he was doing the necessary signs that a ref has to see to deem a lineman eligible. Just saying, "I'm reporting", does not cut it. They were lined up in an illegal formation anyway. Plus, if it wasn't for the botched tripping call on Hendershot instead of Hutchinson, the lions would have never got the ball back to score. Lions screwed themselves in trying to deceive on the play. Don't feel sorry for them one bit. They had 2 other tries to tie the game and they still went for it. Parsons still gets held eery game and the refs don't call it. Nobody would make a big deal out of it if it was the cowboys on the losing end of the game.
I'm surprised that more criticism hasn't been noted about the LIons' decision not to kick the field goal in the 2nd quarter when they decided to go for it on 4th down and didn't make it.
That decision doesn't affect the integrity of the game. This does.
I love Dan kept going for 2. Going to overtime puts in the hands of a coin toss … at least going for it gives the players some control (well unless the refs want you you to loose no matter what - in which case OT wouldn’t have helped either).
Me too, but what is not reported is that the extra ten minutes would’ve increased the chance of injury to his starters and fatigue in the upcoming games.
